The club have been sounding out alternatives since the final in Bilbao and De Zerbi was approached.
However, journalist Fabrizio Romano claims he rejected Spurs in favour of staying at Marseille.
De Zerbi quit Brighton after two years in the job last summer and then penned a three-year contract with the French giants.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank and Fulham manager Marco Silva are the leading candidates to replace Postecoglou.

Frank is the front-runner and he reportedly has a £10million release clause in his deal.
But reports from The I Paper suggest him moving from West to North London is far from done.
Brentford are ready to hear from Spurs but have so far not been contacted.
There is still a strong possibility Silva lands the job and his representatives have been spoken to.

Silva has shown an interest in working under Daniel Levy before and he came close to being appointed instead of Antonio Conte in 2023.

The Telegraph claim that a number of players are fuming over the decision to axe the Aussie and some now want to leave the club.

Coco Gauff wins French Open as Aryna Sabalenka makes bitter admission

Coco Gauff beat Aryna Sabalenka to win her first French Open singles title, with the American forced to come from behind to be at the world number one at Roland Garros Coco Gauff produced a remarkable comeback win to beat Aryna Sabalenka 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 6-4 in the French Open final and quoted Tyler, the Creator as she celebrated becoming the new queen of clay. The victory saw Gauff claim her second Grand Slam singles title and become the first American woman to lift the trophy since Serena Williams in 2015. The 21-year-old had previously reached the final in 2022, but was thrashed 6-1 6-3 by Iga Swiatek and had to come from behind to triumph over Sabalenka. ‌ "I don't know what I've done to deserve such support from the French crowd but I really appreciate it," Gauff said after the game. "I'm gonna quote Tyler, the Creator, who said 'If I ever told you I had a doubt inside me, I think I was lying'. I'll leave that with you guys." ‌ Sabalenka, meanwhile, apologised to her team after the match for a "terrible final" and vowed to "come back stronger". The world number one said: "This will hurt so much, especially after such a tough two weeks playing great tennis in terrible conditions. "Thank you my team for the support, I'm sorry for this terrible final. As always I will come back stronger. Anyway, Coco congrats. In these tough conditions, you were a better player than me. "Well done on a great two weeks. Congrats on the second slam. You're a fighter. Hard worker. Congrats to you and your team. "Honestly sometimes it felt like she was hitting the ball from the frame. Somehow magically the ball lands in the court, and you are on the back foot. "It felt like a joke, honestly, like somebody from above was just staying there laughing, like, let's see if you can handle this. ‌ "It's another tough final in a Grand Slam against Coco. Another terrible performance from me against Coco in the final. "I have to just kind of, like, step back and look at this from the perspective and try to finally learn the lesson, because I cannot go out there every time against her in the finals of the Grand Slam and play such terrible tennis and give those wins, not easily, but like, emotionally, you know?" The men's final will be contested on Sunday, with Jannik Sinner set to take on Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner beat Novak Djokovic in straight sets on Friday to book his place in the final, while Alcaraz defeated Lorenzo Musetti after he retired in the fourth set of their match.

Andorra 0 England 1: Kane goal sees feeble Three Lions sneak win vs minnows to maintain 100% World Cup qualifying record

THOMAS Tuchel has warned England must prepare to suffer in the heat of next summer's World Cup. And everyone is going to have to put up with the pain and boredom of watching them get there. 5 Harry Kane's goal was the difference maker for England Credit: Reuters 5 England maintained their 100 per cent record in World Cup qualifying Credit: Getty Against a tiny nation ranked 173 in the world, one of the supposed favourites for the 2026 tournament were heading for one of the most embarrassing results in their history. Like England predecessors Steve McClaren and Fabio Capello in 2007 and 2008, Tuchel watched an England team reach half-time goalless in an away game against Andorra in Barcelona. As in those previous matches, the Three Lions did enough to avoid humiliation. But only just. After already scoring in qualifiers against the mighty Albania and Latvia, captain Harry Kane extended his record by poaching the 72nd goal of his international career early in the second half. If the 7,000 England fans who paid fortunes to come here - and those watching back home - felt short-changed, they should be under no illusions. There will be plenty more of the same in the rest of this qualification campaign and again at next year's World Cup - because Tuchel will surely steer the team through as Group K winners. An expanded 48-nation tournament in 2026 means a greater number of lower quality teams who are likely to adopt the same (totally justified) approach as Andorra. 5 CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS And not just in the group stage. With an extra knockout round, there will be more borefests of attack against defence which have to be endured by players and spectators alike. All in the suffocating heat of summer in the USA, Canada and Mexico. England star Ivan Toney hits back at Bruno Fernandes with blunt reply after Man Utd star's Saudi transfer snub Despite Tuchel's pre-match caution about expecting too much, the England boss cannot have been pleased with how his team performed. Not with better opponents and hotter conditions awaiting them. Tuchel lined England up in a formation that was basically 4-1-4-1, but with Liverpool's Curtis Jones inverting from right back into midfield and Jude Bellingham sometimes finding himself alongside Kane in a 4-4-2. Jones had a goalbound effort blocked as early as the sixth minute. Andorra goalkeeper Iker Alvarez is the son of head coach Koldo, himself a former netminder who was beaten 16 times in his four games against England. Alvarez Jnr was called into action by Noni Madueke, beating away the winger's left-footed shot, and dad could be pretty happy with how his team was acquitting itself. He would have been less pleased when Reece James found Chelsea team-mate Madueke and his cross fizzed through the Andorra box. But Jones's heavy touch and Kane's poor shot wide let the minnows off the hook. And that was it for decent chances as England failed to move the ball quickly enough to pull disciplined opponents out of shape. A tedious 46 minutes ended to a chorus of boos from the England fans. 5 Thomas Tuchel's team were booed off the pitch at half-time Credit: Reuters They were soon feeling a bit more chipper. A fine pass by Jones allowed Kane to get off a shot that Alvarez saved, but Madueke collected the rebound and crossed for the captain to score from close range. Would England push on and try to achieve the convincing victory that Andorra substitute Marc Vales told SunSport was the kind of result that you would expect between two such mismatched teams? At the end of a long and tiring season - or not, in the case of those who must travel to the Club World Cup - that was always unlikely. Substitute Eberechi Eze forced Alvarez into a good save with a header and Madueke, who always kept trying to make things happen, came close in stoppage time. But there was little else to cheer for the travelling fans. England remained one moment of madness away from the worst result in their history. It almost arrived when Andorran sub Guillaume Lopez found space and had a shot blocked by Ezri Konsa. All credit to Andorra, though, who also kept defending doggedly. Victory for them was avoiding a heavy defeat. This was arguably their best day since beating Hungary in a World Cup qualifier in 2017. Maybe it was even better.. All you could say for England was that they at least managed to come away from a no-win situation with three points. 5 Kane got his toe on the end of a Noni Madueke cross to open the scoring Credit: Reuters

Ex-Man Utd ace admits 'Newcastle phone call' amid £50m summer transfer talk

Newcastle United are interested in Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga and the former Manchester United ace has spoken about the interest he has been subject to on international duty Anthony Elanga admitted he'd received a phone call from Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak... but joked it was concerning his errant shooting on international duty. The Nottingham Forest winger had been linked with interest from the Magpies ahead of Sweden's match against Hungary. The Swedes came away 2-0 victors without the help of Newcastle star Isak, who pulled out of the squad through injury, as Elanga put in a starring performance but failed to get on the scoresheet. Benjamin Nygren and Yasin Ayari secured the victory for Jon Dahl Tomasson's team away from home. ‌ Elanga scored six goals and provided 11 assists as Nottingham Forest qualified for the UEFA Conference League, after looking set for Champions League competition following a strong start to the season. The former Manchester United ace was a key member of Nuno Espirito Santo's team throughout 2024/25 in his second season with the club. ‌ Newcastle are said to have enquired over a deal for Elanga, who has three years remaining on his contract with Forest. Last summer saw the Premier League's fifth-placed side make a late £35million bid for the Swede but never came close to making a deal. And Eddie Howe appears keen to rest the Midlands side's resolve once again, with Newcastle able to offer Champions League football. However, it is reported it would take a figure greater than £50m to find success. Elanga appears relaxed over such speculation. ' There is a lot of talk," he said, per Sport Witness. "I focus on what I can do and my focus today was on the match. In football there are always rumours. The most important thing is that I focus on what I can control.' 'I guess there will always be scouts wherever I play," he added. "As long as I stay focused and do my best in the match. ‌ "I just keep my focus and what I can control. That's what I can do on and off the field. I focus on the next day and action. That's what I can do." Elanga was asked if he'd received a call from Isak and admitted his international team-mate had made an attempt. But joked it was likely about his shooting performance on Friday night. "He must have tried to call me about the match, that I should have scored," he said.
