Melaka FC Grapple To Find Rhythm - K. Devan
Head coach K. Devan admitted that their import players needed time to build compatibility with the squad which was overhauled for this season.
According to him, the first half was less aggressive with too much space given to Penang FC to attack, besides several of the opponent's chances were created due to defensive weaknesses and imperfect counterattacks.

"In the first half I saw this team could have played better but we were less aggressive, gave a lot of space to Penang FC and the players' compatibility was also still lacking besides we faced communication problems with the Brazilian players.
"For me, experience was also a factor because all the imported players were playing in the Super League for the first time, compared to experienced opponents, while local players came mostly from A1 League," he said at a press conference after the match here last night.
Earlier in the action, the visiting team took the lead in the 28th minute through a header by Dylan Christopher Charles Wenzek Halls before Brazilian import striker Juan Douglas Teles Da Silva equalised in the 69th minute for Melaka to tie Penang 1-1.
Devan further commented that in the match he saw that Melaka FC still did not have a 'leader' on the field, and hoped that the problem could be resolved soon.
The 64-year-old manager said that although the performance gap was seen to be improving in the second half, he saw the need to build team confidence and adapt to his tactics with the courage to win.
'They have only been together for less than a month and this weekend we will meet Penang FC again for the FA Cup and we have to win at home.

Draw was fair result
Published on: Saturday, August 16, 2025 Published on: Sat, Aug 16, 2025 By: James Wong Text Size: I must admit that I know nothing about this team. I wish Sabah FC all the best in this away game and I am confident that we should be able to register our first victory of the new season. SABAH FC's first game in the new Super League season ended with a 1-1 draw at the Kuala Lumpur City FC at the KLFA Stadium on Wednesday. We were actually heading for a defeat until lanky Gabriel Peres became the saviour for the team when he scored in the dying seconds with a well-timed header for the equaliser. I thought Sabah FC had a very good game in the first half and had many chances to score but no one was clinical enough to put the ball into the back of the net. It was the same scenario like last season although Darren Lok, Fergus Tierney and Miguel Cifuentes combined quite well in attacks. Subscribe or LOG IN to access this article. Liverpool pays tribute to Diogo Jota in emotional Premier League opener
LIVERPOOL paid an emotional tribute to Diogo Jota as the Premier League season kicked off at Anfield on Friday. The Portuguese forward, who died last month aged 28, was remembered alongside his brother Andre Silva in a tragic accident in northern Spain. Just 11 days before the crash, Jota had married Rute Cardoso, the mother of his three children. A banner displayed at The Kop stand read: 'Rute, Dinis, Duarte, Mafalda - Anfield will always be your home. You'll Never Walk Alone.' Fans held up a giant mosaic with Jota and Silva's initials and shirt numbers during a minute's silence before the match against Bournemouth. Liverpool retired Jota's number 20, and a permanent sculpture will be placed outside Anfield in his memory. The squad will wear 'Forever 20' on their shirts and matchday jackets for the rest of the season. Liverpool manager Arne Slot said in his programme notes: 'The tributes that have been paid throughout the football world, and especially within the LFC community, have been truly special.' He added: 'I believe that Diogo's wife, his children and his family will be in attendance and it is important that, as a club, we show that they will always have our love and support.' Jota joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020 and spent five successful years at the club. During his time at Anfield, he won the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup. - AFP

Guardiola aims to keep Savinho amid Tottenham interest
PEP GUARDIOLA has expressed his desire to keep Manchester City winger Savinho at the club for 'many years.' The City manager acknowledged Tottenham's interest in the Brazilian following Son Heung-min's exit and James Maddison's injury. Guardiola confirmed neither Savinho nor goalkeeper Ederson has requested a transfer. 'If they want to leave, they will come to me,' he stated during Friday's press conference. Savinho featured in 48 matches last season but faced criticism for inconsistent finishing. Guardiola praised his potential but refused to guarantee his stay beyond the transfer window. 'I don't know. Tottenham or any other club should call the club,' Guardiola said. He emphasised Savinho's importance while admitting player wishes ultimately decide transfers. The 21-year-old is currently injured and will miss the season opener against Wolves. Guardiola expects midfielder Rodri to travel despite recent fitness concerns. Rodri's knee issues have raised questions over his long-term durability. Guardiola stressed the need for caution, saying, 'He needs to play minutes in training sessions.' City recently sold Jack Grealish to Everton, with James McAtee also nearing a move to Nottingham Forest. Guardiola cited squad balance as the reason, stating, 'I have too many players.' Ederson has been linked with Galatasaray after City re-signed James Trafford. Guardiola reiterated his policy of not blocking departures if players seek new challenges. The transfer window closes in September, leaving uncertainty over Savinho's future. Guardiola remains hopeful but pragmatic about potential exits. - AFP
