Jordan discusses economic cooperation with Colombia
Ammon News - Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) First Vice Chairman Nabil Khatib, meeting Colombia's non-resident ambassador to Jordan, Edwin Ostos Alfonso, called for expanding Jordan–Colombia economic and trade relations and exploring new markets and nontraditional investments that serve both countries. According to an ACC statement, and in the presence of Second Vice Chairman Bahjat Hamdan, Khatib highlighted Jordan's role as a regional hub that can boost the reach of Colombian products and services in Middle East markets. He noted bilateral trade totaled about JD29 million last year, including JD28 million in Jordanian imports, mainly meat and food products. Khatib said that the ACC is ready to facilitate B2B meetings, trade delegations, and data-sharing to build effective partnerships. Alfonso expressed Colombia's interest in deepening economic ties and removing barriers to trade and investment. He said Colombia plans to open an official diplomatic mission in Amman to enhance relations and consular and commercial services. He invited the ACC to participate in an economic forum in Colombia in mid-2026 to explore opportunities and enable direct dialogue among private-sector leaders, and emphasized signing an MoU between the ACC and its Colombian counterpart to launch broader cooperation. Aqaba Container Terminal Signs Agreement with King Hussein Cancer Foundation to Expand Breast Cancer Awareness in Aqaba
Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT), the preferred gateway to Jordan, the Levant, and beyond, has signed an agreement with the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) to support the Jordan Breast Cancer Program through a comprehensive awareness outreach community project. This effort reinforces ACT's role as a key contributor to health promotion and early detection in "Awareness is Power," ACT will support the foundation in delivering awareness lectures and community outreach activities for breast cancer awareness and early detection services, targeting underprivileged women in Aqaba. ACT will cover the cost of mammogram vouchers, and the initiative will be implemented through home visits and by facilitating the transfer of eligible women to undergo mammogram the agreement, King Hussein Cancer Foundation will train 25 volunteers in breast cancer knowledge and communication. The program will also deliver 400 awareness sessions reaching 6,000 women in Aqaba, in addition to hosting a public event reaching 200 members of the community and referring at least 100 women for on this agreement, Harald Nijhof, Chief Executive Officer of Aqaba Container Terminal, said, "At ACT, it is a deeply rooted value of ours to contribute to the quality of life of the communities we work in. Zarqa Hospital Performs High-Risk Spine Surgery Using Spinal Anesthesia - Jordan News
In a significant medical milestone, a specialized team at the new Zarqa Government Hospital successfully performed a complex spinal decompression surgery at two lumbar levels, between the third and fourth, and fourth and fifth vertebrae, on a high-risk patient suffering from multiple severe health conditions. اضافة اعلان Hospital Director Nasser Hussein said that the procedure was carried out under exceptionally challenging circumstances and marked a major advancement in the hospital's surgical and anesthetic capabilities. He credited the achievement to the expertise and coordination of the multidisciplinary medical team, supported by the hospital administration's commitment to cultivating advanced medical excellence. The patient had been diagnosed with severe lumbar spinal stenosis, necessitating urgent surgical intervention. However, the operation was complicated by multiple comorbidities, including morbid obesity, a weakened cardiac muscle, a history of heart attacks, and most notably, myasthenia gravis, a neuromuscular disorder that posed a significant risk during anesthesia. Hussein explained that general anesthesia would have placed the patient at grave risk, prompting an in-depth multidisciplinary consultation. The team ultimately opted for spinal anesthesia, allowing the patient to remain fully conscious during the procedure, an uncommon approach in such high-risk scenarios, but one that significantly reduced the potential for life-threatening complications. The surgery was led by Head of the Neurosurgery Department Tariq Harb and Dr. Shaima Raed, with anesthesia administered by Head of the Anesthesia Department and Consultant Abdul Jaber Al-Masoud, alongside Anesthesia Specialist Rami Qaisia and Anesthesiologist Hamza Ibrahim. Operating room nurses Ahmed Nafeh and Tasneem Al-Zayoud provided critical support. Dr. Hussein hailed the procedure as a "qualitative leap" in the hospital's capabilities, particularly in managing complex surgical cases locally. He noted that the success of the operation opens new avenues for treating advanced medical conditions within Zarqa Governorate, reducing the need to refer patients to tertiary hospitals.
