Vince Russo says Hulk Hogan 'put wrestling on the map'
Vince Russo is a recognisable name in the professional wrestling business. He rose to fame in the 1990s and went on to work with WCW and the WWE. During his time with the now-defunct promotion, he was closely associated with Hulk Hogan. In an exclusive interview with Indiatimes, the writer paid tribute to the late legend and said he 'put wrestling on the map'. Russo also highlighted that it was Hogan who helped the industry gain mainstream attention.
'He brought wrestling into the MAIN STREAM. He took it from a niche market to Pop Culture. In other words---he LITERALLY put wrestling on the map,' he said
Pro-wrestling initially followed a territorial system where promoters refrained from putting up shows in markets outside their parent one. This changed when Vince McMahon took over the WWE (then called WWWF) from his father around 1980. He then built the company around Hogan, the face of the promotion.

Hulk Hogan feuded with legends such as The Undertaker, Ric Flair, and The Rock during his iconic career. He also had memorable matches against the likes of Warrior and Brock Lesnar, which he lost. The list of Hogan's rivals also includes the likes of Sgt Slaughter, Randy Savage, Goldberg, and of course Andre the Giant.
His last televised match for the WWE took place at SummerSlam 2006 where he beat Randy Orton in a competitive match. Hogan his survived by his wife Sky Daily and children (Nick and Brooke). His death has left a void in the industry that will never be filled again. RIP, 'brother'!

‘Brother, I Can't Wait': WWE Hall Of Famer Eric Bischoff Shares Final Chat With Hulk Hogan
Last Updated: It was Hulk Hogan's son, Nick, who first encouraged Eric Bischoff to visit his home in Florida. Just days before Hulk Hogan passed away on July 24, his close friend and WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff visited him at his home in Florida. Bischoff, 70, shared details of their final conversation during the July 29 episode of his podcast 83 Weeks with Eric Bischoff. It was Hogan's son, Nick, who first encouraged Bischoff to make the visit. The wrestling legend had been unwell and hesitant about meeting friends in that condition. 'He Was Kind Of Embarrassed' As Bischoff recalled on the podcast, Hogan was initially reluctant about the visit as he admitted over a phone call, 'I really want to see you, but I'm kind of embarrassed for you to see me this way because I've been pretty sick." Bischoff responded with reassurance and honesty, saying, 'When I look at you, I don't see the same thing you see when you look in the mirror, so f*** that, I'll be down Monday." The visit happened just a few days before Hogan's death and lasted about an hour. Though Hogan appeared physically weak and tired, Bischoff said he still recognised the same person he had known for years. 'He sounded tired," Bischoff noted. 'Wanted To Talk About Business' During their time together, the two didn't dwell on Hogan's health. Instead, most of the conversation focused on future plans and upcoming projects. 'All he wanted to talk about was business, but in a fun, energetic way," Bischoff said. Hogan asked about events and updates on Real American Freestyle. While his voice lacked strength, his spirit remained engaged. Bischoff added that Hogan was not 'struggling" to breathe, but he was exerting 'more effort" than usual during the visit. 'It was work for him to have a conversation, but he was the same guy," Bischoff added. 'Brother, I Can't Wait' Bischoff, wanting to lift his friend's spirits, offered to arrange some promotional interviews for Hogan down the line. 'I knew it was going to be quite a while before he was going to be able to do interviews. I wanted to leave him looking forward to something," Biscoff noted. Hogan responded with excitement, saying, 'Brother, I can't wait. I may not be able to do anything on camera for a couple weeks but I'll be good on the phone. You can set some stuff up for me." Bischoff later followed up with a message to Hogan's wife, Sky, to make sure that the interviews were optional and only to be pursued if Hogan felt up to it. 'She got it and she appreciated it," he added. Hogan was apparently 'so anxious to get back to work," before his death. 'He loved the hunt, the thrill of the hunt," Bischoff said. Hulk Hogan's Final Hours On the morning of July 24, emergency services were dispatched to Hogan's residence in Clearwater Beach, Florida, at 9:51 AM local time. According to audio from the dispatch, CPR was already 'in progress" by 10:28 AM, and medics were in the process of moving him to the ambulance. Hogan was taken to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was officially declared dead, as confirmed by a report from the Clearwater Fire Department. She recently opened up in an emotional Instagram tribute, recalling their complicated bond, and even revealing she named one of her kids after him. 'His eyes shine through my children. And our bond has never broken, not even in his final moments,' she wrote. 'We had a connection deeper than words, one that spanned lifetimes. I am so grateful that I knew the real version of him. Not just the one the world viewed through a carefully curated lens.'
