Tuju Setia poised for stronger earnings growth in FY25

KUALA LUMPUR: Tuju Setia Bhd's earnings could improve in the financial year 2025 (FY25) following the significant drop in raw material prices and operating costs, according to Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd.
The firm said the construction firm successfully achieved a turnaround in FY24 and expected to grow stronger going forward.
It noted that Tuju Setia's outstanding order book stood at RM2.08 billion as of early April 2025, offering strong earnings visibility through to 2028.
"In FY24, it secured project wins totalling RM1.6 billion in FY24 from repeat and reputable clients, such as Sunway Group, Avaland, SimeProp, Pelaburan Hartanah, BRDB and Beverly Group.
"This solid pipeline enables the Group to leverage operational scale, maintain high work quality and build resilience," it added.
Rakuten Trade projects Tuju Setia to record net earnings of RM8.6 million in FY25 and RM15.9 million in FY26, supported by increased project recognition and improving profit margins.
The firm said Tuju Setia Bhd is expected to reward shareholders with dividend payouts of 0.6 sen and 1.1 sen for FY25 and FY26, respectively, translating into estimated dividend yields of 2.7 per cent and 5.0 per cent.
While concerns remain over the company's relatively high net gearing ratio of 1.07 times as of FY24, it said stronger projected earnings for FY25 are expected to ease the balance sheet.
Net gearing is anticipated to improve to below 0.9 times by end-FY25F and further decline to around 0.6 times by end-FY26.
Rakuten Trade has issued a "buy" recommendation on Tuju Setia, with a target price of 37 sen per share.

Bursa Malaysia eyes 1,530 ceiling next week as traders brace for data deluge

KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 — The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) is set to trade between 1,500 and 1,530 points next week, pending fresh market catalysts, said an analyst. Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice-president Thong Pak Leng said market attention is anticipated to revolve around several important economic indicators, such as China's May consumer price index (CPI), producer price index (PPI), and its unemployment figures. Investors will also monitor the US CPI and PPI for May, and industrial output from the Eurozone for April. 'Domestically, the lack of market-moving news has kept the benchmark index in consolidation, and this is expected to carry over into the coming week,' he added. UOB Kay Hian Wealth Advisors Sdn Bhd's head of investment research, Mohd Sedek Jantan, said investors would also be monitoring South Korea's unemployment rate, Japan's first-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) revision, and India's CPI — all of which could influence sentiment across the region. While it remains difficult to adopt a fully constructive view at this juncture, he reckons downside risks to the FBM KLCI may be partially cushioned by undemanding valuations and continued ringgit strength. 'That said, while Malaysian stocks may currently be undervalued, offering attractive entry points, a strengthening ringgit against the US dollar could increase the cost of entry for foreign investors, potentially raising the risk premium due to reduced competitiveness of export-oriented sectors,' he added. For the shortened week just ended, Bursa Malaysia was mostly lower on profit-taking, mainly due to cautious sentiment on the US-China trade talks and a lack of positive economic figures from the two countries. Bursa Malaysia Bhd and its subsidiaries were closed on Monday, June 2, 2025, in conjunction with the official birthday of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia. On a Friday-to-Friday basis, the barometer index fell 27.03 points to 1,508.35 from 1,508.35 a week earlier. The FBM Emas Index gained 55.54 points to 11,355.34, the FBMT 100 Index added 62.69 points to 11,123.69, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index climbed 72.96 points to 11,329.22. The FBM 70 Index picked up 95.06 points to 16,296.57, but the FBM ACE Index fell 31.71 points to 4,519.32. Across sectors, the Financial Services Index narrowed 132.23 points to 17,708.31, the Industrial Products and Services Index was 1.85 points easier at 150.80, and the Energy Index gained 10.41 points to 718.45. The Plantation Index grew 45.00 points to 7,252.85, but the Healthcare Index weakened 22.81 points to 1,794.14. Turnover fell to 9.80 billion units worth RM8.18 billion from 14.80 billion units valued at RM12.78 billion in the preceding week. The Main Market volume shrank to 4.50 billion units valued at RM7.21 billion against 7.21 billion units worth RM11.50 billion. Warrant turnover declined to 4.07 billion units worth RM533.43 million versus 5.90 billion units worth RM721.75 million a week ago. The ACE Market volume weakened to 1.22 billion units valued at RM432.22 million compared with 1.66 billion units worth RM543.90 million. — Bernama

Trump-Musk spat weighs on Bursa as KLCI slips below 1,520

KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 — Bursa Malaysia opened lower today, tracking the overnight losses on Wall Street, with sentiment affected by the ongoing spat between US President Donald Trump and businessman Elon Musk. At 9.10 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 2.78 points lower at 1,515.34 from Thursday's close of 1,518.12. The benchmark index opened at 1,516.91, less 1.21 points. Market breadth was negative, with decliners outpacing gainers 207 to 84. A total of 243 counters were unchanged, 1,812 untraded and 20 suspended. Turnover stood at 119.92 million units valued at RM70.92 million. Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice-president Thong Pak Leng said all eyes were on China's President Xi Jinping-Trump's phone call, which was deemed 'very good' by Trump and that a meeting between the two may be held soon. On the flipside, the latest job data showed a slowing labour market as the US 10-year Treasury yield edged slightly higher at 4.39 per cent. Over in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index continued to climb as sentiment was boosted by China's purchasing managers' index (PMI) for May that beat consensus, allaying fears of an economic slowdown. On the home front, the FBM KLCI almost reached the 1,520 mark yesterday, possibly due to more aggressive stock accumulation by local institutions. 'We were surprised by this sudden strong buying interest after a lacklustre display over the past month. 'For today, we expect the index to hover within the 1,515-1,530 range,' Thong told Bernama. Among the heavyweights, Petronas Chemicals and Press Metal Aluminium eased 5.0 sen each to RM3.31 and RM4.98, Sime Darby shed 2.0 sen to RM1.73, YTL Corp dropped 2.0 sen to RM2.01 and Tenaga Nasional was 8.0 sen weaker at RM14.12. Among the most active stocks, Green Packet and Avangaad were both flat at 2.5 sen and 28 sen, Jaks Resources fell half-a-sen to 10.5 sen, Autocount Dotcom was 11 sen lower at RM1.07 and Thriven Global shed 2.5 sen to 10.5 sen. On the index board, the FBM Emas Index lost 22.75 points to 11,340.08, the FBMT 100 Index slid 21.90 points to 11,0106.46 and the FBM ACE Index decreased 21.99 points to 4,496.15. The FBM Emas Shariah Index fell 29.32 points to 11,311.42, while the FBM 70 Index gave up 37.93 points to 16,245.38. Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index trimmed 8.92 points to 17,730.65, the Industrial Products and Services Index was down 0.99 of a point to 151.13, the Plantation Index shed 6.01 points to 7,213.37, but the Energy Index increased 0.27 of a point to 708.88. — Bernama

Paramount aims to maintain momentum after record high sales of RM1.4b in FY24

KUALA LUMPUR: Paramount Corporation Bhd is poised to build on the momentum of record high property sales amounting to RM1.4 billion in 2024, a 24% increase compared to 2023, for the current financial year. Group CEO and director Jeffrey Chew Sun Teong said the milestone of achieving the highest annual sales in its history underlines strong market demand and the company's effective project pipeline. In addition to the record-breaking achievement, Paramount's unbilled sales rose by 12% to RM1.6 billion, providing healthy earnings visibility moving forward. 'While the overall take-up rate was not exceptionally high, the company views this as a natural result of its large number of project launches in 2024. The company remains unfazed, noting that developments with longer sales periods are expected to register lower take-up rates initially, especially when launched at scale,' Chew told reporters after the Paramount's annual general meeting today. Moving forward, Paramount is expected to sustain its growth trajectory into 2025, supported by a robust pipeline of ongoing projects stemming from a record RM2.2 billion worth of property launches in 2024. 'This marked the highest launch value in the company's history, with many of the developments continuing to drive sales into the current year. The launches were well diversified, with 72% comprising high-rise units, 27% landed properties and the remaining 1% commercial. 'Spread across multiple locations, the breadth of projects reflects Paramount's strategic focus on maintaining a balanced portfolio, both in terms of product mix and geographical distribution, helping to ensure resilience amid varying market conditions,' Chew said. Paramount achieved revenue of RM1 billion in FY24, a 3% increase from FY23. The group's profit before tax (PBT) rose by 20% to RM156.9 million compared to RM130.2 million in FY23 on the back of sustained revenue from the property segment and dividend income from its investment in another property developer. Profit attributable to ordinary equity holders grew 24% to RM102.4 million from RM82.8 million in FY23. In FY24, the property segment achieved a record high PBT of RM145 million, contributing 92.4% of the group's total PBT, supported by revenue of RM965.3 million. The investment and other segments saw strong improvements, largely driven by the group's stake in Eco World International Bhd (EWI). The coworking segment reported an 80% jump in revenue to RM23.5 million (including RM5.2 million in intersegment revenue). However, PBT declined to RM700,000 from RM2 million achieved in FY23, primarily due to the absence of a one-off impairment reversal that was recognised in FY23. As of Dec 31, 2024, total assets stood at RM3.1 billion, up from RM3 billion a year earlier. Total liabilities rose to RM1.6 billion from RM1.3 billion. Chew said, 'Paramount's gearing level rose slightly in 2024, mainly due to higher borrowings and financing related to its investment in EWI. The company also refinanced its perpetual debt during the year, contributing to the increase. 'Gearing level is currently higher due to the structure of its financial instruments and recent refinancing activities. Despite this, the company has maintained a consistent dividend payout track record, distributing at least 38% of its profits annually over the past decade. 'In total, shareholders have received approximately RM1.15 in dividends over 10 years, exceeding the company's current share price of under RM1.10.' With RM2.2 billion worth of launches in 2024, Paramount's portfolio remains well diversified, comprising 72% high-rise developments, 27% landed properties and 1% commercial projects. This broad spread across product types and locations provides resilience against unforeseen challenges. The company believes this balanced approach will help sustain overall performance throughout the year, even if individual projects face temporary setbacks.
