Do Not Underestimate The Importance Of JS-SEZ
BUSINESS
ISKANDAR PUTERI, June 19 (Bernama) – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has underscored the significance of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), describing it as an extraordinary model of cross-border cooperation that sets a new benchmark for bilateral economic collaboration.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the strong partnership between Malaysia and Singapore has led to rising international interest in JS-SEZ, attracting investors from Japan, China, South Korea and Europe, and positioning it as a new global investment dynamo.
'Do not underestimate the importance of JS-SEZ. This is not an ordinary SEZ.
'Name me one other economic zone that involves two countries, built entirely on mutual trust and the spirit of working as one formidable team. That's what makes JS-SEZ unique,' he said during the closing ceremony of Nikkei Forum Medini 2025.
Also present was Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
The Prime Minister also credited the zone's rapid progress to its clear policies, political stability and institutional support from both federal and state authorities.
He said this includes the newly established Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre, which he described as a key enabler in expediting investment approvals.
'Every meeting brings new demands. If they don't get approvals at the state level, they come to us. And we facilitate, not for personal gain, but for the greater good. That's why this centre is becoming a showcase for other states and federal agencies to follow,' he said.
He acknowledged the contributions of Iskandar Investment Bhd (IIB), Khazanah Nasional and the Johor state government in making the JS-SEZ a reality.

Govt reform agenda progressing consistently, not mere rhetoric, says PMO
KUALA LUMPUR: Claims that the "reformasi" agenda is not progressing are unfounded, as it is moving forward consistently, says Tunku Nashrul Abaidah. The senior press secretary to the Prime Minister said the reformasi agenda is not something to be implemented overnight or merely expressed in statements, but rather is being executed through structured actions. "Since the start of the Prime Minister's (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) administration, he has emphasised that the Madani government will always listen and stay open to constructive criticism. "This stance is reflected in action. Every criticism is viewed as an opportunity for improvement. Today's successes mirror that approach," he said. Tunku Nashrul said this during the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) daily briefing, broadcast live on both Anwar Ibrahim's and the PMO Malaysia's Facebook pages Thursday (June 19). Tunku Nashrul said that, as outlined by the Prime Minister through the Madani Economy Framework, the main goal is to elevate the nation's economic potential, enhance its capacity, and ensure the well-being of its citizens. He added that Malaysia's rise of 11 places to the 23rd rank in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2025, up from 34th place last year, is due to the Madani government's sustained commitment and comprehensive implementation via a whole-of-government and whole-of-nation approach. He said this is the country's best performance since 2020, proving that economic and bureaucratic reforms are yielding results and that the Madani Economy Framework is keeping the country's economy on the right track. "This achievement also reflects the collective efforts to strengthen fiscal policy, simplify business processes, and accelerate public service delivery reforms, including over 1,000 initiatives under the Bureaucratic Red Tape Reform (RKB). "For example, the national bureaucracy perception index has jumped 22 positions, a clear signal that reforms are delivering real results, not just at the national level but also with international recognition," he said. - Bernama

Labuan Corporation (LC) chief executive officer Mohd Sukuran Taib said preparations are progressing smoothly, with promotional activities rolled out through various platforms, including face-to-face engagements, social media, printed materials, and billboards. 'For the past two months, we have stepped up promotion by distributing leaflets, putting up posters, and hanging banners,' he told Bernama Thursday. 'You can now see these materials displayed in almost every corner of the island, particularly in the town centre,' he said to Bernama Thursday. Mohd Sukuran said the Borneo Flora Festival 2025, organised by LC in collaboration with Putrajaya Corporation and the Department of Federal Territories (JWP), is expected to attract around 50,000 visitors over its five-day run from July 26 to 30 at the Labuan International Sea Sports Complex. 'We are targeting not only domestic visitors but also tourists from the Borneo region, including Kalimantan and Brunei. This is our flagship tourism event of the year, and we are optimistic about a strong turnout,' he said. Mohd Sukuran added that the festival will showcase a wide variety of flower and plant species from across the country. 'Labuan Corporation is also taking the initiative to enhance the overall beauty and ambience of the Borneo Flora Festival by planting a total of 250,000 polybags of flowering plants, as part of its broader environmental and tourism enhancement strategy,' he said. He also emphasised that the Borneo Flora Festival 2025 aims to position Labuan as a key tourism hub while creating economic opportunities for local entrepreneurs and plant growers. 'This is not just about beautifying Labuan, it's about boosting the local economy, promoting sustainability, and making Labuan a must-visit eco-tourism destination,' he said. – Bernama
