Egypt to host world's largest painted mural in 2025 with wide Japanese participation

CAIRO - 16 April 2025: Egypt is set to host the events for the world's largest painted canvas in 2025, a significant artistic and cultural project organized by the "Identity of the Earth" Association, a non-profit civil society organization in Japan. The event is under the patronage of the Japanese Embassy in Cairo and the Egyptian Embassy in Tokyo, with participation from the Japan Foundation, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Egyptian-Japanese Schools Unit.
Dr. Gad El-Kady, head of the Egyptian working team overseeing the competition and former Egyptian Cultural Attaché in Japan, stated in a press release to the Middle East News Agency today, Wednesday, that students from Egyptian-Japanese schools are participating in this artistic event. They will be painting canvases measuring 5x5 meters each, which will later be collected and displayed within a unified framework to create the world's largest artwork.
He added that a unified title for the canvas will be chosen to reflect Egyptian civilization, the shared culture between Egypt and Japan, and address global challenges such as climate change and water scarcity. The organizing bodies also plan to hold the events in distinguished heritage and cultural sites across Egypt.
Dr. El-Kady explained that the events will commence tomorrow, Thursday, with a launch ceremony held at an Egyptian-Japanese school in 6th of October City. The ceremony will be attended by representatives of the sponsoring entities from both the Egyptian and Japanese sides and will include an artistic performance by the Egyptian-French opera singer Farah El Dibany.
Following the launch ceremony, the organizing team for the competition will head to the cities of Luxor and Aswan to prepare for the official events of the competition, which are scheduled to take place in December 2025.

In 2017, Abulyazeid drew attention through her performance as Toka in the TV series "Hadha Almasa" (This Evening). Her TV credits also include "Al Nas" (2024), "Touba" (2022), "Al Ekhteyar 2: Regal El Zel" (2021), Hogan" (2019), "Zodiac" (2019), "Layali Eugenie" (2018), and "'Ana shahira ... 'ana alkhayin" (2017). Abulyazeid is also known for her roles in films such as "El Daawa Ammah" (2022), "Laylat Amar 14"(2022), "Mousa" (2021), "30 March" (2021), "El Kowayeseen" (2018), and "Hadha almasa'" (2017). Egyptian Startups Secure $228 Million in First Five Months of 2025 Egyptian startups have attracted $228 million in venture capital and debt financing from January to May 2025, according to a statement from the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship. The figures mark a 130% year-on-year increase in disclosed investment volume, reflecting continued growth in Egypt's startup ecosystem despite ongoing economic challenges. In total, 16 deals were recorded during the period, with 11 of them publicly disclosing investment amounts that collectively reached $156 million. In addition to equity investments, two notable debt financing deals were secured: proptech platform Nawy raised $23 million, while fintech firm MNT-Halan secured $49 million. The proptech sector led in terms of total investment volume, accounting for 33% of all capital raised, while fintech topped the charts in deal count, with five transactions comprising 32% of total investment value. H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Egypt's Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation and head of the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship, stated that the funding growth reflects continued momentum in Egypt's startup market. Dr. Al-Mashat attributed this progress to government-led efforts to improve the business climate and support private sector growth through targeted structural reforms. Dr. Al-Mashat confirmed that work is currently underway on a national Startup Charter, alongside a range of funding initiatives and financial incentives to promote investment, including tax benefits for startups with annual revenues under EGP 20 million. In addition to new funding, the local startup ecosystem saw a number of key acquisition deals. These included Dubizzle's acquisition of used car marketplace Hatla2ee, as well as the acquisition of digital payments platform Fatora by MaxAB-Wasoko. The Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship was launched by the Egyptian government to coordinate startup policy across relevant ministries and to develop initiatives that foster an enabling ecosystem for entrepreneurship. As part of this mandate, the group aims to promote Egypt's visibility on the global startup map while supporting sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
