Alice in Chains Drummer Sean Kinney Addresses Health Scare: 'I'm Going to Live'

The post Alice in Chains Drummer Sean Kinney Addresses Health Scare: 'I'm Going to Live' appeared first on Consequence.
Alice in Chains recently canceled a brief spring US tour, including a couple of high-profile festival appearances, after drummer Sean Kinney experienced a medical emergency. The veteran stickman has now addressed his health, saying, 'I'm going to be fine and I'm going to live.'
As previously reported, Alice in Chains canceled their May 8th kickoff show at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, at the last minute after Kinney suffered a 'non-life-threatening medical emergency' immediately after the band's soundcheck that evening.
The next day, the legendary grunge band canceled their entire spring tour, which was slated to include a handful of headlining shows along with sets at the Sonic Temple and Welcome to Rockville festivals. At the time, Alice in Chains stated, 'While we were all eager to return to the stage, Sean's health is our top priority.'
Now, Kinney himself has released a statement via Alice in Chains' social media channels, assuring fans that he'll be okay without disclosing the nature of his health condition. His full post reads as follows:
'THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE WTF?
Firstly, to everyone who came out to the Mohegan Sun show and was affected by the short-notice cancellation, and to everyone who had tickets to come see the band at one of the other shows, thanks for your understanding. It's not lost on the band and myself that you spend money, make plans and alter your schedules to come and see us, and it's deeply disappointing to have had this happen.
I was very much looking forward to getting back out there and playing with the band again, and it's been a difficult but necessary decision to make. I don't personally utilize social media and I'm not particularly fond of my health issues being made public, but I understand that people are concerned.
When the doctors advised me against playing in the short-term, I quickly went through The 5 Stages of Grief:
1. Denial (I'm fine)
2. Anger (F*** this – I'm still going to play)
3. Bargaining (What's it gonna take for me to hear a better diagnosis?)
4. Depression (This sucks)
5. Acceptance (This sucks, but okay)
I finally concluded that medical doctors with many hard-earned degrees on their walls might know a bit more about health than a musician with some shiny spray-painted records on his wall.
The outpouring of love, concern and well wishes has been both extremely humbling and very much appreciated.
The good news is that I'm going to be fine and I'm going to live. The bad news (for some of you?) is that I'm going to be fine and I'm going to live.'
As of now, Alice in Chains are still scheduled to perform at the final Black Sabbath concert on July 5th in Birmingham, England. Beyond that, the band has no other dates scheduled for 2025.
Kinney formed Alice in Chains in 1987 with Jerry Cantrell, Layne Staley, and Mike Starr. Sadly, Staley died in 2002, while Starr passed away in 2011. The band's current lineup includes Kinney, Cantrell, William DuVall, and Mike Inez.

Nilüfer Yanya Announces New EP Dancing Shoes, Reveals New Song 'Where to Look': Stream

The post Nilüfer Yanya Announces New EP Dancing Shoes, Reveals New Song 'Where to Look': Stream appeared first on Consequence. Nilüfer Yanya is back to announce a new EP, Dancing Shoes, set for release on July 2nd. She's also unveiled the new song 'Where to Look.' Dancing Shoes follows Yanya's 2024 album, My Method Actor, which we deemed one of the best releases of the year. Comprised of four new tracks, Dancing Shoes was written and produced with Yanya's close collaborator Wilma Archer during and in between tour dates supporting My Method Actor. The EP also features 'Cold Heart,' which arrived last month. Get Nilüfer Yanya Tickets Here Reprising her raw, spellbinding guitar work and considered attention to mood and atmosphere, 'Where to Look' has all the touchstones of Yanya's dynamic indie rock sound. The song really begins to lift off in the second chorus, where Yanya's guitar stumbles into a wall of fuzzy reverb and provides more power and emotion behind her croons. While the EP it's on is called Dancing Shoes, 'Where to Look' isn't exactly dancefloor-friendly, instead boasting a more introspective tone. Stream the track below. Yanya has a busy 2025 ahead of her; in addition to a busy summer performing at festivals like Glastonbury and London's All Points East, she'll return to North America for a lengthy stretch of shows opening for Alex G. She'll then head back to Europe for a handful of dates opening for Lorde. See her full list of tour dates below, and get tickets to see Nilüfer Yanya here. Dancing Shoes Artwork: Tracklist: 01. shame Announce New Album Cutthroat, Release Title Track: Stream

The post shame Announce New Album Cutthroat, Release Title Track: Stream appeared first on Consequence. The UK post-punk band shame are back, and have announced their fourth studio album, Cutthroat. Listen to the lead single and opening track, 'Cutthroat,' below. Due on September 5th via Dead Oceans, Cutthroat is the follow up to shame's 2023 album Food for Worms, and spans 12 new songs produced by John Congleton. Speaking about the album in a statement, frontman Charlie Steen, said, 'It's about the cowards, the cunts, the hypocrites. Let's face it, there's a lot of them around right now.' Get shame Tickets Here The band expanded on that attitude in a longer joint statement, hinting at a restless drive beneath the record's surface. 'It's driven by hunger,' they said. 'Hunger for something better. For something you've been told you don't deserve. It's primal. It's raw. It's unapologetic. It's the person who turns up to the party uninvited. 'Cause when you've been pushed down, there's nowhere to go but up. When you ain't got nothing, you ain't got nothing to lose.' To that end, Steen likened the album to the band's live performances. 'This is about who we are,' he said. 'Our live shows aren't performance art — they're direct, confrontational and raw. That's always been the root of us. We live in crazy times. But it's not about 'Poor me.' It's about 'Fuck you.'' The lead single, 'Cutthroat,' is built around a driving arrangement with a psychedelic tint, and introduces the album's conflation of arrogance and insecurity. In a statement, Steen said, 'I was reading a lot of Oscar Wilde plays where everything was about paradox. In 'Cutthroat,' it's that whole idea from Lady Windermere's Fan, 'Life's far too important to be taken seriously.'' 'Cutthroat' arrives with a music video directed by Ja Humby. Watch it below. Along with the announcement of Cutthroat, shame also unveiled a run of UK and European tour dates, beginning in September and wrapping in November. According to a press release, 'US dates will soon follow, so stay tuned.' See the full list of their upcoming tour dates below, and grab tickets here. Artwork: Tracklist: 01. Cutthroat 02. The post Big Thief Announce New Album Double Infinity, Release Single 'Incomprehensible': Stream appeared first on Consequence. Big Thief are back with a new double album called Double Infinity. Stream the lead single, 'Incomprehensible,' below. Due out September 5th via 4AD, Double Infinity marks Big Thief's sixth studio album and was produced by longtime collaborator Dom Monks. Recorded over three weeks this past winter at Power Station in New York City, the band biked between Brooklyn and Manhattan each day for the sessions. Many of the tracks were captured live, shaped through in-the-moment collaboration and improvisation, with minimal overdubs. Get Big Thief Tickets Here The lead single, 'Incomprehensible,' demonstrates this sound, with a warm, textured arrangement that naturally ebbs and flows beneath Adrianne Lenker's expressive vocal performance.
