'Vibrant, inclusive' National and Malaysia Day festivities in the offing
"Planning and participation have been very positive. We're still receiving applications from various groups keen to take part in the (National Day) parade.
"To enrich the experience, attendees can not only watch the parade — a showcase of assets and performances — but also enjoy various activities around Putrajaya.
"Families can look forward to a truly festive and enjoyable atmosphere," he said at the launch of the Pentarama Homecoming programme at SK Bangsar here yesterday.
Fahmi said events were also being planned for the National Day Eve celebrations in Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur.
"I don't want to reveal too much just yet, but rest assured, this year's celebrations will be grand, harmonious and filled with joy," he said, adding that the public could visit the merdeka360.my portal for updates.
This year's National Day parade will be held in Putrajaya on Aug 31 while Malaysia Day will be celebrated at the PICCA Convention Centre @ Butterworth Arena in Penang on Sept 16.
As for the Pentarama Homecoming programme, Fahmi said it would be rolled out in more than 80 schools to inspire patriotism among students.
The event features a variety of activities, including a talk with the minister, cultural performances, fashion shows, games and a Jalur Gemilang flag-waving segment.
Present was Information Department director-general Julina Johan.
Meanwhile, Fahmi also invited the public to attend Malam Malaysia Bersama Gaza, a solidarity event for Palestine organised by the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations.
The event will be held at Dataran Merdeka on Aug 22-24, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expected to attend the highlight night on Aug 23.
"This event serves as a reminder of Malaysia's unwavering and continued support for Palestine," said Fahmi.
More than 100,000 people are expected at the event, which will feature exhibitions and a "time tunnel" on the history of the Palestinian people's struggle for independence.

Embrace patriotism, uphold unity, councillor calls on fellow Malaysians
Lau holds up the Jalur Gemilang after officiating at the 'Jiwa@Komuniti Madani National Day and Malaysia Day' programme in SJKC Guong Ming. SIBU (Aug 20): The contributions, especially the sacrifices, of the nation's forefathers in liberating the country from colonial rule should serve as a powerful reminder and source of inspiration for all Malaysians, especially the younger generation, in upholding Malaysia's sovereignty and unity. In highlighting this, Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) councillor Kevin Lau, who chairs its standing committee for public health and environment, said the independence that Malaysians enjoy today did not come easy. 'Independence was not handed to us on a silver platter. It was earned through courage, unity, and the fighting spirit of our predecessors, who refused to let our land remain under foreign domination. 'We must continue to embrace their patriotic spirit in preserving the harmony and freedom that we now enjoy,' he said when officiating at the 'Jiwa@Komuniti Madani National Day and Malaysia Day' programme at SJKC Guong Ming, Sungai Bidut here yesterday. Also present were Sibu District Information officer Zaini Morshidi, SJKC Guong Ming headmistress Yek Poh Ngiik, and Sungai Bidut Madani Community head Nambang Tandang. Adding on, Lau emphasised the importance of instilling patriotism in the younger generation, saying that unity and respect among Malaysia's multi-ethnic society must be nurtured from a young age. 'We want our children to grow up in a safe and peaceful environment, and this can only be achieved if we continue to defend the spirit of unity passed down by our freedom fighters.' Meanwhile, Zaini in his remarks called upon fellow Malaysians to show respect for Jalur Gemilang, particularly throughout the ongoing National Month period. 'This is not something to be taken lightly. Displaying the national flag incorrectly is an insult to our country's dignity. 'Most of these incidents are happening in Peninsular Malaysia,' he pointed out. Zaini also advised everyone to avoid spreading mistakes on social media, especially those involving the national flag. 'Instead, offer polite correction. Do not rush to make things viral. If you see a mistake, advise those who make it respectfully. 'We are here to resolve issues, not make them worse.' He also called upon parents and teachers to keep an open mind in educating children, so as to help them navigate the digital world without losing sight of patriotic values and national identity.
