Rolex's highly anticipated Oyster Perpetual Land-Dweller, the patent-packed new watch that's already a favourite of Testimonee Roger Federer, is finally here
What better way to start the first day of Watches and Wonders, the salon in Geneva where the great and good of horology gather annually to debut their newest timepieces, than with a launch from
Rolex, one of the most famous of all watch brands
Style was on-hand for an exclusive preview of the Land-Dweller, a thoroughly modern model that will surely become one of the most hotly discussed timepieces of the whole show.
Until this moment, Rolex had always kept the next development in its famous Oyster Perpetual range tightly under wraps. Now we know that the new Land-Dweller packs a whopping 32 new patent applications and patents: 18 exclusive to this watch, with 16 of them involving the movement and one each for the dial and bracelet. This is all elegantly encased in a 40mm platinum and Rolesor (combining Oystersteel and white gold) case, or a 36mm 18k Everose gold case set with diamonds.

Both models come with the brand-new Flat Jubilee integrated bracelet – a design with echoes of the 1969 and 1974 Datejust models that first introduced the integrated bracelet style to Rolex.
The modern aesthetics of the Land-Dweller speak to the entrepreneur type, a client who appreciates a flowing silhouette with an unbroken line from bracelet to watch case, and the combination of polished and satin finishes creating a play of light. The wider bracelet is built for comfort, with an intricate and discreet mechanism joining the case to the strap, giving 90-degree movement in the hinge – an innovation that is among the patent applications.
The use of reflected light, so visible on the bracelet, is continued onto the bezel. The 1908 Perpetual, launched in 2023, possesses a densely packed bezel of 180 flutes; this has been reduced to 60 flutes for the Land-Dweller, creating a more open pattern that catches the light in a very architectural way. The luxurious trapeze-cut diamonds on the Everose iteration Ref. 127286 and platinum Ref. 127386 add to the sparkle, with the overall aesthetic being clean and contemporary.

A honeycomb pattern decorates the dials – a motif echoed on the second hand – while the ice blue dial is Rolex's signature colour for its platinum models. The hour markers are open-ended, while the font used for the 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock is a close cousin to that on Rolex's Explorer range.
The Land-Dweller is a flagship of design and development that will launch a new generation of Rolex watches. This is especially noticeable in the development of the new movement, calibre 7135, which Rolex says is an evolution of the calibre 7140 in its 1908 model.

Photo: Handout Meanwhile, Zenith's 160-year milestone comes with the surprise launch of the G.F.J. collection, a vintage revival rooted in its founder Georges Favre-Jacot's original movement, updated with a contemporary blue-on-blue dial design. At 39mm, it's perfectly proportioned – and the dial is striking without veering into flamboyance. Rolex, predictably, took a different tack. This year marks 120 years since Hans Wilsdorf founded the brand in 1905, but true to form, Rolex isn't waving any flags. Instead, it unveiled the Land-Dweller, a completely reimagined watch featuring 32 new patents – 18 for the watch, 16 for the movement – including the new Dynapulse escapement and a striking Flat Jubilee bracelet. Vietnam seizes fake Rolex watches, Prada bags from mall amid US pressure
Vietnamese authorities have seized thousands of fake products, including imitation Rolex watches and Prada handbags, during a raid at a shopping centre in business hub Ho Chi Minh City, state media reported on Friday. The raid at Saigon Square Shopping Mall comes as Vietnam steps up its fight against counterfeits and digital piracy, after the United States accused the country of being a major hub for these illegal activities and threatened crippling tariffs. Earlier in May Reuters reported fake luxury goods were on display in the plaza, which is on the list of 'notorious markets for counterfeiting' published in January by the US Trade Representative. The items seized also included alleged fake products of other brands, including Longines, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Dior and Hermes, state radio broadcaster VOV reported. 'All of these products show signs of counterfeiting genuine goods, seriously affecting the interests of consumers as well as the reputation of protected brands in Vietnam,' the report cited the trade ministry's market surveillance department as saying. An employee of the shopping centre on Friday confirmed the raid.

Photo: RTHK Mainland authorities said on Thursday the country will provide a more transparent, efficient and predictable regulatory environment, along with funding support, to aid technology firms in listing overseas. This came as China's technology, banking, finance and regulatory authorities rolled out a slate of measures and programmes, as well as credit support for technology firms, to drive domestic innovation. Speaking at a press briefing in Beijing, Yan Bojin, chief risk officer at China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), said 242 enterprises have completed their filings for listings overseas over the past two years since new regulations governing them have been implemented. "Among the firms, 83 are technology enterprises, mainly concentrated in fields such as information technology, biomedicine, new energy and advanced manufacturing," he said. "The CSRC will work with relevant departments to continue supporting eligible technology enterprises to develop in an orderly manner through domestic and overseas capital markets. "We will also provide a more transparent, efficient and predictable regulatory environment to support such technology enterprises to go public overseas." The regulator also noted that the country will further strengthen the security of funds raised by listed companies to ensure their allocation towards the main business rather than other purposes. Vice Minister of Science and Technology Qiu Yong noted that authorities will also continue to deepen reforms in the tech-heavy Nasdaq-style STAR Market in Shanghai, as well as the ChiNext board in Shenzhen, to encourage the so-called red-chip technology firms to return to domestic markets. A "national venture capital guidance fund", which Qiu said will be an investment vehicle with public-private partnership, will be set up to focus on "hard technology". Qiu also stressed that pilot technology finance programmes shall be prioritised in key regions, including Beijing, Shanghai the Greater Bay Area, as well as the innovation centres of Chengdu-Chongqing, Wuhan and Xi'an. "These regions should take the lead in breaking through and solving the key and difficult problems in science and technology finance, especially conducting pioneering trials in the areas of marketisation and rule of law, and exploring innovative policies related to science and technology finance," Qiu said.
