Yasser Abu Shabab makes first statement since Hamas' surrender warning
ALBAWABA - Yasser Abu Shabab, the leader of the Popular Forces in southern Gaza, made his first announcement since the Hamas court gave him 10 days to surrender himself.
The Revolutionary Court of the Military Judiciary Authority in Gaza warned Yasser Abu Shabab, the 35-year-old leader of the group, allegedly backed by Israel, to surrender himself for trial.
The Popular Forces responded via a statement on Facebook that the court's order is nothing but a 'sitcom that doesn't frighten us, nor does it frighten any free man who loves his homeland and its dignity'.

Abu Shabab told Israeli media that the group is backed by the Palestinian Authority but not by Israel.
He said: "My clan is spread over an area that extends from the Negev to the Sinai. We are a big family, and everyone supports me and my actions," Ynet reported on Monday.
Yasser further maintained that Hamas accuses him of being "a criminal, a thief, a member of ISIS," with the aim of keeping people away from him.
"But that has not worked. Anyone who kidnaps and kills children, like the Bibas family, has no right to define or judge others. They are subhuman, vile and despicable people, and their end is near," he added.

Watch: Hamas fighter throws explosive device at Israeli vehicle amid explosions
Published July 12th, 2025 - 08:49 GMT ALBAWABA - An Israeli public television station showed a dramatic video of a brave Palestinian resistance fighter attacking an Israeli military car in northern Gaza by himself. The fighter can be seen running at the stopped car, throwing explosives inside it, and then running away without getting after the attack, fires quickly spread from the car to the surrounding area, filling it with thick black smoke. Israeli news outlets say the video shows a larger operation in which Palestinian fighters attacked Israeli troops in the northern Gaza Strip. One of the fighters is said to have fired an RPG at the more reports said that Palestinian armed men came out of caves and fought fiercely with Israeli troops in Khan Younis, which is in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. In a different well-known event, a Hamas member from the Al-Qassam Brigades broke into an Israeli military zone that was heavily guarded in Khan Younis. The fighter got on top of an armored personnel carrier and threw an explosive called a "Shawaz" into the cockpit before running away. There were seven Israeli troops killed in that ambush. Ceasefire in Gaza? One key dispute holds everything back
ALBAWABA - Two knowledgeable Palestinian sources who spoke to AFP say that the ceasefire talks between Hamas and Israel, which are currently taking place in Doha with help from Qatar, the US, and Egypt, have hit a major snag: Israel has refused to agree to a full military pullout from the Gaza Strip. Also Read Israel busts decade's largest Hamas network in West Bank On Sunday, the latest round of informal talks began. Both sides want to end the terrible 21-month war that has killed over 57,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, according to UN-recognized numbers from Gaza's Health Ministry. A very important Palestinian source said that Israel came up with a plan for a partial pullout on Friday. This plan would keep Israeli troops in more than 40% of Gaza. Hamas has flatly refused the plan, seeing it as an ostensibly legal rule that would separate Gaza into small areas that can't connect with other areas or move around freely. The source warned that the plan is meant to force hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who have been forced to leave their homes into a small area in western Rafah. This could lead to their being sent to Egypt or other countries. Even though there was no movement, another Palestinian official said that some things were getting better, like the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners and the sending of emergency aid. Reports say that mediators have asked both sides to wait to talk about the pullout question again until U.S. envoy Steve Wietckoff gets to Doha. Israeli armed actions are still going on the ground. The IDF said that in the last 48 hours, it had hit 250 "terror targets," such as caves, weapons caches, spotter posts, and places where anti-tank missiles could be launched. Over 20 people were killed in Gaza, including a whole family in Deir al-Balah, according to the civil defense. On the other hand, seven UN agencies warned on Saturday that Gaza's fuel shortages have hit a critical level, which could shut down already overworked relief services and make the food situation worse.

"Unlucky Azulay": Hamas taunts Israel with next captive hint
ALBAWABA - On Saturday, Israeli news outlets said that several soldiers were hurt in two big battles in Gaza. The fighting between Israeli troops and Palestinian fighters got worse in Khan Younis and the Shujaiya neighborhood of Gaza City. The fights, which have been called "face-to-face battles," were some of the worst on the ground in recent weeks. Israeli news sources say that hurt Israeli troops were taken by helicopter to hospitals in Tel Hashomer, Beilinson, Soroka, and Ichilov. Local reports told Al Jazeera that an Israeli rescue chopper had arrived northwest of Khan Younis at the same time that the Israeli military was attacking the area with fire and bombs. The Israeli army said that many soldiers were hurt in the fights, including a tank captain who was badly hurt. Two more troops were hurt overnight when an anti-tank missile fired by Hamas hit a military car in northern Gaza. Al-Qassam Says It Has Direct Hits And Puts Out New Video After their failed attempt to take Israeli soldier Avraham Azulay, who was later killed, Hamas's Al-Qassam Brigades shared a picture of him. "Azulay was unlucky; the next soldier will be our prisoner," the group said, implying that they would be capturing more soldiers in the future. The groups also said that their fighters had come back from battle having used powerful homemade bombs to destroy two Israeli bulldozers in the Al-Zaytoun area on July 2 and a Merkava tank on July 6. They also said they were behind the attack on another tank earlier this week in the "Maslakh" area of Khan Younis. Al-Qassam released video that showed an Israeli soldier running away during a fight, which they say goes against what the Israeli army says happened on the ground. The Islamic Jihad's Al-Quds Brigades said they destroyed a bulldozer in eastern Khan Younis and shelled an Israeli command and control center on Jabal al-Surani, which is east of Gaza City. The group also put out pictures of what they said was a rifle operation that hurt and targeted an Israeli soldier. There is more and more talk about how strong the Palestinian groups are in Gaza, and Israel is still losing soldiers during long operations on the ground.
