Mysuru to get multidisciplinary sports complex with velodrome and academies
Mysuru: In a major boost to the city's sporting infrastructure, the department of youth empowerment and sports (DYES) submitted a formal proposal to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (Muda) for the development of a world-class, multi-disciplinary sports complex at Hanchya-Sathagalli.Spanning over 25.2 acres of Muda-owned land, the complex is designed to accommodate a range of sporting disciplines, including athletics, cycling, Kho Kho, volleyball, wrestling, and basketball.

Key features of the proposed facility include a synthetic athletic track, an international-standard velodrome, dedicated basketball courts, and specialised academies for Kho-Kho, volleyball, and wrestling. This initiative, announced by chief minister Siddaramaiah in the recent state budget, aims to elevate Mysuru's status in the national sports arena and inspire more local youth to consider sports as a viable career.The original plan for an international cricket stadium on the site was cancelled due to the presence of a 2.28-acre waterbody. Instead of abandoning the project, DYES reimagined the space and chose to integrate the waterbody into the new plan. The rejuvenated waterbody will not only enhance the aesthetics of the complex but will also serve practical functions, including supporting ground maintenance and ecological sustainability.Strategically located adjacent to the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Regional Centre and along the Outer Ring Road, the new sports complex will also include sports hostel accommodation and practice grounds, making it a comprehensive training and competition hub.The long-pending velodrome, originally announced in the 2023–24 state budget but delayed due to land constraints, is a key highlight of the project. With 10 to 15 acres earmarked for the velodrome, the facility will also include pump tracks and dirt tracks to support various cycling disciplines, boosting Mysuru's prominence in competitive cycling.Speaking to TOI, Bhaskar Nayak, assistant director at DYES, confirmed that the proposal was formally submitted to Muda. "The engineering team is currently conducting a land survey and valuation. Once completed, the land will be transferred to DYES for the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR), which will include cost estimations. The project is in line with the

CM Dhami visits Nainital; examines redevelopment projects
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 6 (ANI): Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday reached Nainital on his two-day visit. On the first day of his stay, he inspected the beautification and redevelopment works going on at Mallital at a cost of Rs 1,101 crore under the Manaskhand Mandir Mala Yojana. Under this scheme, 12 new shops are being developed, which were also inaugurated. On this occasion Chief Minister Dhami announced: work will be done to improve the Dhunighat and Ratighat footpath; Shahid Sanjay Bisht Motor Road (Kainchi-Hartapa-Hailimotor Road to Titoli) will be upgraded and improve; sections of State Highway No. 71 (Ramnagar-Bhandarpani-Amgari-Bhaurakot-Betalghat-Bhujan Richi-Billekh) will be strengthened; DSA ground will be developed as a model sports center for national level sports competitions and training; alternative parking will be constructed in Nainital; hockey turf and boxing ring will be built in the flats ground; flats ground will be used only for sports and cultural events, other commercial activities will be prohibited; Nainital bus stand complex will be redeveloped through lightweight structure to increase public transport facility and reduce traffic jam. The CM also announced that water lakes will be reduced by conducting road safety survey of main sites and vending zone will be constructed for local vendors. Desilting of Naini lake will also be done and railing will be replaced. The Chief Minister inaugurated the basketball court at DSA ground, distributed sports kits to the players, met the district's medal-winning players, and honoured them. Improvement of DSA ground and landslide protection work on Valia Nala and Thandi Road are also being done at a fast pace. Volleyball track has been inaugurated here on the demand of children. An amount of Rs 12 crore is being given for the beautification of Maa Naina Devi Temple, and if required, this work will also be taken forward. Free entry demanded for medal winners at Smart City swimming pool
Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada Swimming Association has demanded that winners of state and national level swimming events be given free entry at the Yemmekere Swimming Pool complex. Association president Yathish Bykampady told reporters on Friday, that the contract to maintain the new swimming pool has been awarded to a private agency, which does not allow swimmers trained by external coaches. Following persistent requests from people's representatives for the past 15 years, a new swimming pool of international standards has been developed by the Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) exclusively for athletes. However, the new swimming pool, where practice sessions were held until Dec 2024, has been handed over to We One Aqua Centre, and athletes are being denied entry, he said.
