England's Jamie George excited to join The Lions again
It meant that despite being completely fit for a game in which he had been selected, instead George had a watching brief as England completed an impressive 2-0 series victory over Los Pumas, courtesy of a last-gasp Jack van Poortvliet try in a 22-17 success.

And while he would have given anything to be out there with the young England squad that he has relished leading over the past month, the prospect of representing the Lions for a third time after his experiences in 2017 and 2021 meant he was able to accept Andy Farrell's request that he not play for England as initially planned.
He explained: 'I prepared like normal for the Test match. I woke up to a few messages asking if I'd seen that Luke had picked up a knock.
'At that stage, I didn't really think too much of it because we had a huge second Test out here in Argentina to play. Then I spoke to both Steve (Borthwick) and Andy and they said that I had to withdraw from the game and be on the next flight out of here. It's pretty surreal.
'The initial conversation was about whether I could play (against Argentina). He (Farrell) also said 'huge congratulations' and what an amazing opportunity I've got on my hands in the next few weeks. I want to go out there and contribute as much as I possibly can and soak it all in because they are very special.
'I've got some journey on my hands. I've put my iPad on charge! I'll get some things downloaded. It's an exciting journey, I'd swim there if I had to because that is how special it is.'
George will fly with the England team from San Juan to Buenos Aires. Then when they head to Washington DC for the final game of their tour against the USA, he will fly to Dubai and then onto Brisbane where he will meet up with the Lions ahead of the first Test against the Wallabies.
Arriving on Tuesday, George should be able to join the Lions in training on Thursday, their final session before the first Test in Brisbane.
While he had initially missed out on selection, George did spend time training with the team in Portugal ahead of their opening fixture against Argentina and in typical fashion, he will look to use that time to ensure he is ready to hit the ground running Down Under.
He added: 'I haven't been sent anything already. I've still got all my notes from the initial time, I'm the sort of bloke that writes a lot of stuff down.
'I'll be looking back at those on the plane, I'll have enough time to do that. I pride myself on being as diligent as I possibly can be with my prep so I'll be up to speed and ready to go.'
While Ireland duo Dan Sheehan and Ronan Kelleher are in pole position to feature in the first Test against the Wallabies, there is precedent for players to arrive late on Lions tours before making crucial contributions.
Among them is Alex Corbisiero, called up mid-tour 12 years ago in Australia before scoring the opening try of the decider against the Wallabies.
George could yet be that person this time around, and he departs the England squad with the blessing of Steve Borthwick, even if his late withdrawal from the squad could have been a major disruption.
Borthwick said: 'I had a chat with Andy, spoke to Jamie, who said he still wanted to play. I told him to give Andy a call and Andy said he didn't want him to play which was quite understandable.
'Jamie's words were 'I want to play tonight, I really want to play. I want to finish this part of the trip'. I had incredible respect for Jamie before, I now have even more.'

British tennis star given FOUR-YEAR doping ban despite being cleared 18 months ago
The International Tennis Integrity Agency's appeal over the decision to clear Tara Moore has been upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport and she's now been suspended British tennis star Tara Moore has been hit with a four-year ban for doping - despite being cleared 18 months ago. Moore, 32, had been allowed to play again following an independent tribunal last year. But the International Tennis Integrity Agency's appeal over the decision to clear her has been upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport and she's now been suspended with immediate effect. Moore's ban will be reduced, though, as she served the first 19 months through a provisional suspension which began after the case came to light in 2022. The Hong Kong-born star was Britain's top-ranked doubles player at the time, having tested positive for nandrolone and boldenone during a tournament in the Colombian capital of Bogota in April 2022. An independent tribunal ruled that contaminated meat was the source of her positive drugs test and that Moore 'bore no fault or negligence'. The 32-year-old said that she'd been through '19 months of lost time and emotional distress', adding that her reputation had been tarnished as a result of the case. Moore returned to the ITF World Tour last year and was in the draw for Wimbledon, the US Open and featured at the Australian Open in January. She won't be allowed to return to the court until the beginning of 2028. A statement from CAS read: "After reviewing the scientific and legal evidence, the majority of the CAS Panel considered that the player did not succeed in proving that the concentration of nandrolone in her sample was consistent with the ingestion of contaminated meat. "The panel concluded that Ms Moore failed to establish that the ADRV (Anti-Doping Rule Violation) was not intentional. The appeal by the ITIA is therefore upheld and the decision rendered by the Independent Tribunal is set aside." ITIA chief executive Karen Moorhouse argued that Moore's explanation wasn't 'adequate', saying: "For the ITIA, every case is considered according to the individual facts and circumstances. "Our bar for appealing a first instance decision is high, and the decision is not taken lightly. In this case, our independent scientific advice was that the player did not adequately explain the high level of nandrolone present in their sample. Today's ruling is consistent with this position. "We understand that players and their support teams may have questions about this decision, and we will answer these fully once we have reviewed the details of the ruling." Moore's suspension comes at a time where the topic of doping in tennis has been intensely discussed. Both the men's and women's singles champions at Wimbledon, Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek, had served bans after failing drugs tests. It's the first time in Wimbledon history that both the men's and women's champions have served suspensions for banned substances. "I don't think it's a good look for the sport," Nick Kyrgios, who later posted an asterisk emoji following Sinner's win, said ahead of both singles finals. Italian Sinner had tested positive for low levels of the banned anabolic steroid clostebol in March 2024, earning him two provisional bans which he appealed against and had lifted within one and three days respectively. The 23-year-old was later cleared of any wrongdoing by an independent tribunal after they accepted that an over-the-counter spray to treat a cut on his hand had been inadvertently contaminated by his physiotherapist. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), however, appealed against the panel's ruling that Sinner 'bore no fault or negligence' and said that it was seeking a ban of between one and two years. In February, shortly after the 23-year-old retained his Australian Open title, it was announced that Sinner and WADA had reached a controversial settlement which saw him banned for just three months. Six-time Grand Slam winner Swiatek tested positive for heart medication trimetazidine (TMZ) in August 2024 and served a one-month suspension which ended in early December. The ITIA accepted that the Pole's test was caused by contamination of a regulated non-prescription medicine which she said she took for jet lag and sleep problems.

Arsenal eye big move after Gyokeres and Mosquera deals
Arsenal's summer spending is set to crash through the £200million mark but Mikel Arteta is not finished yet. Having already confirmed the arrivals of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi, the Gunners are set to announce three more deals this week. Noni Madueke has undergone a medical ahead of his £50m move from Chelsea, while Cristhian Mosquera has said his goodbyes to Valencia with the finishing touches to his move set to be completed in the next 48 hours. And, while there are several complications still to be ironed out, it appears almost certain that Arsenal's search for a new centre forward will conclude with Viktor Gyokeres getting his dream move. According to The Athletic, however, Arsenal could yet make one more X Factor signing with Eberechi Eze and Rodrygo both on their radar. In order to finance either of those deals it is likely that a number of players will depart to raise funds. Leandro Trossard is one of those who could depart, although it is unlikely that the north London club would be able to generate much of a profit on the £27m they spent to sign the Belgium international from Brighton two-and-a-half years ago. Gabriel Martinelli's future has also been the subject of speculation in recent weeks with a move to Saudi Arabia touted. Bayern Munich have also reportedly expressed an interest in the 24-year-old, but the German giants appear to have turned their attention to prising Luis Diaz from Liverpool instead. The imminent arrival of Mosquera is likely to prompt the departure of another defender with Jakub Kiwior the most likely candidate. You certainly can't accuse Arsenal of being inactive in the window this summer but whether the new signings and potential new recruits will be enough to power the Gunners to the title remains to be seen. The naysayers will point to Liverpool's already impressive summer which has seen Arne Slot add two top class full-backs and smash the British transfer record to snare Floriant Wirtz. Building from a position of strength, the best are getting even better even without the arrival of a new centre forward, an issue that looks likely to be addressed imminently. Arsenal, however, can only look after themselves and while it might have been tempting to enter the race to sign Alexander Isak, plugging the gaping holes in their squad, exposed by last season's injury crisis, represents a far smarter use of the considerable funds that have again been made available to Mikel Arteta. Of the new additions, Martin Zubimendi's is perhaps the most intriguing. Will the addition of a genuine deep-lying playmaker, one in the prime of his career, prompt a more expansive style of play? If the Spaniard's addition shifts Arsenal back to a side somewhere between the buccaneering nearly-men of two years ago and the overcautious, safety first side that lost their way last term then there is no reason to suggest they cannot last the distance. The rest of the signings represent gambles, while even Eberechi Eze and Rodrygo, although level raisers, would come with no guarantees given it is not clear where the Crystal Palace playmaker would fit in, while there have been plenty of Real Madrid cast offs who have failed to shine in the Premier League. That said, this is a top class Arsenal side whose consistency over the last three years is often overlooked as a consequence of their lack of silverware. The new signings may only need to contribute the extra 10% required to get the Gunners over the line given the quality that Arteta already has at his disposal. If you're looking for a positive omen, look back to the summer of 2001 when Arsenal brought in Richard Wright, Francis Jeffers, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Sol Campbell at significant cost, while Edu was effectively a new signing given he hardly played following his arrival in January. Of that group, only Campbell could have been considered a genuine level raiser, but that group all made valuable contributions across a campaign which saw Arsenal end a run of three second place finishes to complete a Premier League and FA Cup double under Arsene Wenger. Arsenal, meanwhile, have already done much of the groundwork ahead of one final assault on the transfer market. Eze, who is also emerging as a Bayern Munich target, is keen to join Arsenal even if he would face intense competition for a role in his favoured No.10 position. More Trending Captain Martin Odegaard has had that role nailed down since usurping Emile Smith Rowe, while during negotiations over a new contract Ethan Nwaneri has been promised more game time in a central position. Real Madrid's Rodrygo is the other high-profile name being carefully monitored by Arsenal. The Brazil international was used sparingly by Xabi Alonso during his new side's Club World Cup campaign and reports in Spain suggest he has been deemed surplus to requirements. It would still take a significant sum in the region of £80m to sign Rodrygo while he would commanded a salary that would render him the club's top earner.
