Tom Holland Addresses James Bond Casting Speculation
Yara Sameh Tom Holland is having one busy year with Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' and the Marvel tentpole 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' essentially filming back to back. The movies are Holland's first features since 2022's 'Uncharted,' and their theatrical releases next year will be the first time fans get to see him on screen since his Apple TV+ limited series 'The Crowded Room' in 2023. 'I feel really blessed to be at a point in my career where I can take time off, reset, and come back ready to go,' Holland recently told GQ UK magazine amid an intentional slow-down in his acting output. 'You can't be in every movie, and you can't do your best work when you're burnt out.' 'What I've learnt is that it's important to set boundaries – to be mindful about overworking,' he added. 'I've got a slightly busy year next year, and then I'll probably take a bit more time off in 2027. We'll see.' Holland is back in busy mode, and he might get even busier if rumors about him being eyed to play the new James Bond turn out to be true. Denis Villeneuve is directing the next Bond movie for Amazon MGM with a script by 'Peaky Blinders' creator Steven Knight. Holland's name is often cited when it comes to speculation over who will take over 007 from Daniel Craig, which has only been heightened by reports of Amazon wanting a younger Bond actor this go-around. The new 007 movie is also being co-produced by Amy Pascal, who works closely with Holland on the 'Spider-Man' movies. 'Listen, there's speculation at the moment. We'll keep it to a minimum for now. We'll get there one day,' Holland recently told Gordon Ramsay , who then asked if Holland would 'love the opportunity' to play 007. 'Dude, I mean every young British actor, it's the pinnacle of working in our industry,' Holland said. 'I already consider myself to be the luckiest kid alive you know, I could not have dreamed to have the career that I have.' Holland spoke openly in summer 2023 amid the release of 'The Crowded Room' about how he needed to take nearly a year off acting after filming the drama series because it took such an emotional toll on him. The series starred Holland as Danny Sullivan, who is arrested in summer 1979 due to his involvement in a shooting at Rockefeller Center. Holland was open about 'The Crowded Room' being tough to film and said 'that show did break me.' During his acting hiatus, the actor stayed busy by doing work with his charity The Holland Foundation and by launching the nonalcoholic beer brand Bero. He is back in full swing as an actor this year and even told GQ UK that he's eyeing an acting pivot in the future to a new genre. 'I think I'd love to do a straight-up comedy,' Holland added. 'That genre's really taken a hit over the last few years. We're seeing fewer and fewer of them. I'd love to do something where the question isn't, 'How do we bring emotion into this story?' but 'How do we make people laugh as much as possible?' That idea of coming to set every day with that mission sounds amazing to me.' "The Holiday" TV Series in Works
Yara Sameh A limited series adaptation of the 2006 romantic comedy film 'The Holiday' is in development at Apple TV+. As with the film, the drama would center on two women, one British and one American, who swap houses during the Christmas season and find love along the way. The series would reportedly focus on different characters than those featured in the film. Krissie Ducker is attached to write and executive produce the series, with Rob Delaney serving as a consultant. Left Bank Pictures will produce. Nancy Meyers — who wrote, produced, and directed the film — is not attached to the series. The search is now on for the series leads. Should the cast come together, the series is expected to receive a greenlight. Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and Jack Black starred in the original film. Winslet played Iris, a London columnist for The Daily Telegraph, while Diaz portrayed Amanda, the owner of a film trailer company in Los Angeles. Upon swapping houses, Iris meets Miles (Black), a film composer, while Amanda meets Graham (Law), Iris' widowed brother. 'The Holiday' was a box office success upon its release, grossing over $200 million worldwide. It has maintained a strong cult across the globe following ever since. Ducker's past TV writing credits include shows like 'Killing Eve,' 'Sweetpea,' and 'The Assassin.' Horror Hit "28 Years Later" Sets Streaming Date
Yara Sameh Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodi Comer and Ralph Fiennes' hit horror thriller "28 Years Later" is coming to digital streaming this week. The third film in the horror film franchise that began with "28 Days Later" in 2002, "28 Years Later" reunites the original film's director, Danny Boyle, and its screenwriter, Alex Garland. The film was released in theaters on June 20. The official logline for "28 Years Later" reads, 'It's been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.' According to a listing on Prime Video, "28 Years Later" will be released on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, July 29. When it is released, "28 Years Later" will also be available on several digital platforms, including Apple TV, Fandango at Home and YouTube. The film is still playing in theaters. So far, "28 Years Later" has earned $70 million domestically and $80 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $150 million. The film had a $60 million production before prints and advertising costs, per The Numbers. While those who have the Rage Virus in "28 Years Later" have zombie-like qualities, Danny Boyle insisted in an interview with TIME Magazine before the film's release in theaters that the antagonists are not zombies. 'We had this thing about, 'No, they're not zombies. They're infected,'' Boyle told TIME. 'We wanted them to behave in a different way physically, but they also weren't undead. They could die and they will die, but so will you if they catch you.' In "28 Years Later", Aaron Taylor-Johnson's character, Jamie, takes his 12-year-old son, Spike (Alfie Williams), to the mainland where the infected roam over the objections of his wife and the boy's mother, Isla (Jodie Comer). The trip to the mainland is a rite of passage where the younger people sheltered by their island community learn to hunt the infected. Bold told TIME that part of the storyline was influenced by the coronavirus pandemic. 'When COVID first happened, we wore gloves, we disinfected groceries,' Boyle told TIME. 'But gradually over time, you start taking more risks. You don't stay in that super alert stage. You evolve. And so it is in 28 Years. They begin to take risks. Jamie takes his 12-year-old son to the mainland even though, as the mom says, that's f---ing crazy.'
