Beijing: US President Donald Trump has targeted top economic rival China with a cascade of tariff orders on billions of dollars of imported goods aimed at narrowing a wide trade deficit, bringing back lost manufacturing and crippling the fentanyl trade. The timeline below shows the development of the US-China trade war this year: January 21 - A day after taking office, Trump threatens 10% punitive duty on Chinese imports, citing fentanyl flowing from China. February 1 - Trump imposes 10% on goods from China along with 25% on Mexico and Canada, demanding they curb the flow of fentanyl and illegal immigrants into the US February 4 - China responds with a wide range of measures targeting US businesses including Google, farm equipment makers and the owner of fashion brand Calvin Klein. Beijing also slaps levies of 15% on imports of US coal and LNG and 10% for crude oil and some autos, beginning February 10. It also restricted exports of five metals used in defence, clean energy and other industries. March 3 - The US doubles fentanyl-related tariffs on all Chinese imports, increasing levies to 20%, effective March 4. March 4 - China hits back with 10-15% retaliatory levies on US agriculture exports, affecting about $21 billion in US exports. Beijing also imposed export and investment curbs on 25 US firms, on grounds of national security and banned imports of genetic sequencers from US medical equipment maker Illumina. April 2 - Trump escalates global trade friction with sweeping "liberation day" tariffs, announcing a baseline 10% across all imports and significantly higher duties on some countries. Trump levies 34% on all Chinese goods, to take effect on April 9. The Trump administration also decides to end duty-free access for low-value shipments from China and Hong Kong, known as "de minimis" exemptions, from May 2. April 4 - China announces retaliatory tariffs of 34% on all US imports from April 10 and export curbs on some rare earths. It imposed restrictions on about 30 US organisations, mostly in defence-related industries. Beijing also suspends sorghum, poultry and bone meal shipments from some US firms. April 8 - The US raises tariff on all Chinese imports to 84% from 34%. Metropolis Q1FY26 revenue up 23% YoY, PAT rises 19% to ₹45 Cr
Mumbai: Metropolis Healthcare Limited has announced its unaudited consolidated financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2025. In Q1FY26, patient volumes increased by 11 per cent year-on-year (YoY), while test volumes grew by 12 per cent. Revenue from the business-to-consumer (B2C) segment rose 19 per cent YoY, and business-to-business (B2B) revenue grew 29 per cent. The company also reported an 11 per cent increase in revenue per patient (RPP) and a 10 per cent rise in revenue per test (RPT), supported by a richer test mix, scientific upselling, and the adoption of its recommendation engine. Specialty diagnostics posted the highest revenue growth at 32 per cent, driven by strong demand in oncology, genomics, next-generation sequencing (NGS), and women and child health services. According to the company, this growth was supported by scientific engagement initiatives, the use of artificial intelligence, and innovation-led differentiation. The TruHealth wellness and illness bundled portfolio grew 24 per cent YoY, with demand led by premium packages that include home-based ECG, vital checks, and consultations, reflecting increasing interest in preventive and integrated healthcare solutions. It is stated that geographically, North India's revenue contribution rose to 17 per cent from 8 per cent a year earlier, while Tier III cities recorded revenue growth of 17 per cent. The company noted that recent acquisitions have been fully integrated from both financial and operational perspectives, in line with its strategic plan.

TNAU reaches out to innovators under PPP mode to optimise utility of its state-of-the-art Centre for Excellence in Biotechnology
Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has, in the recent months, been reaching out to innovators of unique products through its Centre of Excellence in Biotechnology (COXBIT) for optimising utility of research and product development through public-private partnership mode. The 1.06 facility encompasses knowledge and cabin space which can be occupied by start-ups, student entrepreneurs and established companies for research and development activities. The Centre featuring high-end infrastructure envisages development of super active enzymes / biomolecules, biobased products, hormones for fruit ripening, plant growth stimulants and similar bio-inputs for the commercial benefit of farmers. The common facilities also encompass a conference hall, cafeteria, internet, wi-fi, and instrumentation facilities, said N. Senthil, Director, Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology that runs the facility. On Wednesday, the COXBIT entered into a pact with a Coimbatore-based innovator Nivedita Arjunan, to facilitate research and development of natural ingredient-based perfumes to develop eco-friendly fragrances using botanicals, promoting innovation and value addition in the fragrance sector. Earlier this month, the COXBIT tied up with Sherpa Biotech, a leader in imported button mushroom spawn and modern cultivation, to expand its research by focusing on IoT-based monitoring, stimulants, and smart watering technologies. This new initiative, according to Vendan, Registrar and acting Vice-Chancellor, is expected to increase mushroom production and shelf life, while also promoting agricultural development through the application of modern biotechnologies. Late last month, the COXBIT inked an agreement with Adamsindia AI Company, a leading company in agricultural technology development, for nurturing agricultural sector based on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technology. Earlier during July, an MoU was signed with M/s. Yaazh Xenomics, Coimbatore, specialising in genomic research and DNA sequencing using Illumina, Nanopore, and Ion Torrent platforms. With over 100 research publications, the company also manufactures RT-PCR and biotech kits, supporting researchers, clinicians and students. Tamil Nadu Legislative Estimate Committee under the chairmanship of S. Gandhirajan, MLA, while on a visit to TNAU last month, appreciated activities undertaken by the Centre such as digitization of insects, DNA barcoding, and guided audio tour. The insect museum with more than 50,000 preserved insects on various groups is visited with interest by school / college students and farming community. The Assembly team witnessed demonstrations on low cost coconut dehusking machine, drone spraying of nutrients and pesticides, telescopic coconut harvesting machine, and plantrox app for pest and disease diagnosis.
