Austin Irby homers again, leads East Carolina to Conway Regional final with 11-4 win over Gators
CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — East Carolina freshman Austin Irby continued his tear in the Conway Regional, homering for a third straight game to lead the Pirates past Florida 11-4 Sunday and sending them to the final against Coastal Carolina.
The Pirates (35-26) beat Florida in the regional opener Friday and bounced back from Saturday's 18-7 loss to Coastal Carolina to set up a Sunday night final against the Chanticleers. ECU would have to beat Coastal Carolina twice to go super regionals.

Florida (39-22) saw its bid for a third straight College World Series appearance end.
Irby is 9 for 14 with seven RBIs in three regional games after going 2 for 4 and driving in two runs against the Gators. He singled in a run in the third inning and homered in the fourth to help the Pirates build their lead to 8-1.
Freshman Braden Burress was 3 for 5 with three RBIs and raised his batting average to .401.
Another East Carolina freshman, starter Lance Williams, gave up three runs on three hits and two walks in a season-best five innings, and Jake Hunter worked four scoreless innings.
Pierce Coppola (2-2) was tagged for three runs, two earned, in two innings. Bill Barlow, who replaced Coppola, surrendered three runs without recording an out.
The Gators were 1 for 12 with runners on base.

Urban Meyer unable to properly count Georgia's number of home games
Former Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer discussed the Georgia Bulldogs' prospects for the 2025 college football season on "The Triple Option" podcast. The podcast features Meyer, former Alabama Crimson Tide running back Mark Ingram and fellow FOX college football analyst Rob Stone. Meyer emphasized the importance of scheduling and how it impacts a team's success. Advertisement "I am sitting here looking at Georgia's schedule. They are playing nine, this is an SEC schedule man, nine games at home," said Meyer. There's no doubt that Georgia scheduled a soft nonconference schedule in 2025. Georgia does play a pair of neutral site games against Florida and Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs only have three true road games, so that's what Meyer is trying to get at. Advertisement It is a little embarrassing that Meyer, who obviously coached at Florida, did not realize that the Georgia-Florida game is played a neutral site on UGA's schedule. We also can see Ohio State's schedule from their 2024 national championship season, where the Buckeyes did actually play nine home games (includes one home game in the College Football Playoff). The Buckeyes played a three-game regular season nonconference slate of Akron, Western Kentucky and Marshall and had eight regular season games at home, which is a lot. As for Florida, the Gators had a challenging 2024 schedule that still featured seven home games. The Gators have six home games in 2025 while Ohio State had seven home games in 2025, which is the same amount as Georgia. Despite a weak nonconference schedule, Georgia's schedule is by no means easy. The Bulldogs play Alabama, Texas and Ole Miss at home and have road games against Auburn and Tennessee. Neutral site contests against Florida and Georgia Tech present significant challenges as well. Phillies place Bryce Harper on injured list with wrist inflammation
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The scuffling Philadelphia Phillies suffered a blow Saturday when they placed first baseman Bryce Harper on the 10-day injured list because of right wrist inflammation before their game against the Pirates. Harper sat out Friday night's 5-4 loss to the Pirates. The move is retroactive to Friday. Advertisement The two-time National League MVP and eight-time All-Star is hitting .258 with nine home runs, 34 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 57 games. He missed five games from May 26 to June 2 with a bruised right elbow after being hit by a pitch from Atlanta's Spencer Strider. The Phillies are expected to play third baseman Alec Bohm at first while Harper is out, with utility player Edmundo Sosa taking over at third. The Phillies have lost seven of their last eight games, going from leading the NL East by two games to trailing the New York Mets by 2 1/2 games entering Saturday. Philadelphia had won 11 of 12 games before the skid. Infielder/outfielder Otto Kemp's contract was purchased from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
