Nebraska coach Matt Rhule represented on CBS Sports' list of top head football coaches
CBS Sports ranked the top 68 coaches in college football for the 2025 season. Matt Rhule and the Nebraska football program were represented on the list, with the coach coming in at 32nd overall.
Rhule and the program are looking for a bigger 2025 campaign after finishing last season 7-6. They won the Pinstripe Bowl, which was an achievement for the program, as they had not won a bowl game since 2016.

After finishing 5-7 in 2023 and 7-6 in 2024, the program looks to take a big leap, aided by freshmen and transfers on both sides of the football. Tom Fornelli broke down why he put Rhule in the 32nd spot.
"Rhule's Nebraska was able to cross a bowl game off the to-do list last year, but he still fell three spots in our rankings. After all, there's a difference between 6-6 bowl eligibility and 8-4, so you'll have to forgive some of our voters if they weren't overly impressed with Rhule's sophomore season in Lincoln."
Rhule is known for making third-year leaps in his previous stops at Temple and Baylor. Huskers could be poised to make the jump as well with a favorable schedule.

Duer is an immediate starting option with plenty of production. However, he only hit two home runs, which is the only knock for a player hitting .428. Entering the 2026 season as a senior, this is a big year for Duer, who has his own MLB dreams, knowing that a great season in the SEC can solidify his baseball future. Star junior outfielder Caden Sorrell has yet to announce his return, but knowing that his former Marcus High School teammate is now on the team, that could all but seal the deal. They talk about the "brotherhood" with reverence and respect. You hear a lot of teams talk about that sort of thing, but unless you are in the middle of it all, it's hard to fully grasp. One guy that was in the middle of the Ohio State brotherhood was running back Quinshon Judkins who was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the 2025 NFL draft. The former Ole Miss All-SEC performer has a unique perspective too because he came to Ohio State from another program and had just one year to soak it all in. So what he says about the culture at OSU is more telling than maybe someone that doesn't have much to compare it to. On that note, Judkins recently discussed what the brotherhood on the banks of the Olentangy means, and though he didn't put forth a long, winding answer, his short response was concise and on point. I seen Denzel (Burke) and he's like "O-H" when I first walked into the facility," Judkins said. "And I seen all the guys -- I've met a lot of the guys that are Buckeyes on the team -- and for them to be all around and still have that brotherhood and they say it and speak on it. So it's pretty special and it's a lifelong thing." Look, we writers aren't directly in the middle of the Buckeye culture, or "brotherhood" as they call it. But you can see and feel it just covering the team. There does seem to be a little something different than other programs, and it's a testament to the guys and coaches that have come before, and with Ryan Day continuing things. It's not easy.
