Rajasthan Table Tennis Association president Mukul Gupta demands action against TTFI secretary Kamlesh Mehta and Ranjeet Malik

Time of India20-07-2025
Jaipur: All is not well in the Rajasthan table tennis fraternity. The intense fight between the two factions has put a break on the progress of sport in the region for the last couple of years.
The president of the Rajasthan Table Tennis Association (RTTA) Mukul Gupta has alleged that the other faction - led by Ranjeet Malik -- is trying to create problems and hampering the game despite a proper elected body being formed in the elections held on February 11, 2023.
"During the last elections, observers from Table Tennis Federation of India (Gulanan), Rajasthan State Sports Council (Bhiya Ram Choudhary) and Rajasthan Olympic Association (Arun Saraswat and Shankar Lal) witnessed the proceedings in Jodhpur under the supervision of election officer Mahesh Saini.
However, despite the fair elections, we still did not get the affiliation letter from the RSSC," said Mukul Gupta while addressing a press conference here on Sunday.
Mukul Gupta alleged that after the 2023 elections, Ranjeet Malik approached TTFI secretary Kamlesh Metha and formed another group which forced the national governing body of TT to withdraw the powers of the elected body. Thereafter, two teams of Rajasthan (TTFI 1 and TTFI 2) are participating in the Nationals.

"Ranjeet Malik joined hands with his friend Kamlesh Mehta for his personal gains and made a mockery of the elections held according to the constitution of the RTTA. It is a big conspiracy and ruining the game in the region. Paddlers of Rajasthan are suffering as they are not getting valid certificates from the TTFI. It not only affects their chances of representing the country but also not helping them secure jobs in the government or private sectors," alleged Jodhpur-based Mukul Gupta, who was elected as the RTTA president for a four-year tenure in February 2023.
The Mukul Gupta-led RTTA has three demands to restore the game in the region and seeks urgent attention of the state government.
"There should be a proper action against Kamlesh Mehta and Ranjeet Malik. We should get an affiliation letter from the RSSC as soon as possible. Mention of Rajasthan on the certificates of players who compete in the national-level tournaments," demanded Gupta.
One of the RTTA vice-presidents and Jaipur District TT Association president Lalit Singh added that they approached state sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and RSSC chairman Neeraj K Pawan several times but did not get justice so far.
"Sports minister said formation of an ad hoc body is the answer to this problem and asked the chairman to resolve the issue. We are ready to hear our oppositions' views in the meeting for the benefit of state players," said Lalit Singh.

Trump announces 100% tariff on computer chips and semiconductors, exempts firms 'building in US'

Trump has announced a 100 per cent tariff on imported computer chips and semiconductors, aiming to push companies to manufacture them within the country. The move which exempts US-based producers. read more Trump has taken an extraordinary bet on the importance of American market in global economy and believes that he has a leverage so unique that he can do almost anything. Image: AFP US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (August 6, local time) announced plans to impose a 100 per cent tariff on computer chips and semiconductors, while exempting companies that manufacture them within the United States. The move is expected to drive up the cost of a wide range of electronics, cars, appliances, and other essential tech-driven products. 'We'll be putting a tariff on of approximately 100 per cent on chips and semiconductors,' Trump said while speaking at the Oval Office. 'But if you're building in the United States of America, there's no charge.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The announcement follows Trump's decision to impose an additional 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods over its continued oil trade with Russia, effectively doubling the overall tariff rate to 50 per cent. The new tariffs are scheduled to take effect in 21 days, allowing time for India and Russia to negotiate with the US administration over the proposed import duties. The global chip shortage during the Covid-19 pandemic had already led to rising car prices and contributed to broader inflation. Since then, demand for semiconductors has continued to surge, with global sales rising 19.6 per cent in the 12 months ending June, according to the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics organization. Trump's latest tariff move marks a sharp departure from current strategies aimed at boosting domestic chip production through subsidies and incentives. Instead, he's opting for a more aggressive approach, using tariffs as leverage to push companies to manufacture within the US. By making imported chips more expensive, Trump is betting that firms will be compelled to shift production domestically, even if it risks squeezing profits and raising consumer prices on products like smartphones, televisions, and appliances.

Kharar realtor Ranjeet Singh Gill seeks anticipatory bail after Punjab VB raids, alleges political vendetta

Chandigarh: Apprehending arrest by Punjab Police, Kharar-based realtor Ranjeet Singh Gill approached the Punjab and Haryana high court on Wednesday to seek anticipatory bail. After hearing his plea, a single bench headed by Justice Aaradhana Sawhney referred the matter to the chief justice for directions after the Punjab govt informed the court that the matter is connected with an already pending petition filed by former minister Bikramjit Singh Majithia. A separate bench is hearing all cases that are related to the former and sitting MPs and MLAs. In his petition, Gill claimed that he was falsely and maliciously targeted by the vigilance bureau (VB), Punjab, solely on account of his political affiliation. Immediately after formally joining the Bharatiya Janata Party on Aug 1, Gill said, he became the subject of a politically motivated action by the state machinery. It was contended that acting under the influence of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the VB procured search warrants in an arbitrary and clandestine manner, without issuing any summons, notice, or requisition as mandated under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Were So Beautiful Before; Now Look At Them; Number 10 Will Shock You Paperela Undo The court was informed that multiple raids were conducted on Aug 2 at four of the petitioner's properties, including his residence, yet no incriminating material was found. However, now the notices under Section 179 of BNSS (corresponding Section 160 CrPC) have been issued, whereby he was summoned as a witness. "The petitioner is neither named in any FIR nor linked to the case by way of any disclosure or evidence, and the jurisdictional authority of the Vigilance Bureau does not extend to him as he is not a public servant. The entire sequence of events demonstrates a clear abuse of process, malafide intent, and political vendetta aimed at coercing and humiliating the petitioner for exercising his constitutional right to political association under Article 19(1)(c) of the Constitution of India," his counsel submitted. On Aug 1, Gill joined BJP in a hurriedly called meeting with Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini at his residence. On Saturday, the bureau raided his residences.

Give details on nixing nod to prosecute 4 netas: SC to TN

NEW DELHI: Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the Tamil Nadu govt to provide details of cases pertaining to four political personalities against whom sanction for prosecution in corruption cases granted by the competent authorities were withdrawn following a change of government in the state after elections. TN additional advocate general Amit Anand Tiwari termed the PIL filed by Chennai-based lawyer Karuppiah Gandhi in this connection as a "motivated petition", aimed at garnering political mileage, and asserted before a bench of Justices Surya Kant, Ujjal Bhuyan and N K Singh that the state has scrupulously adhered to the procedure established by law to deal with the cases. Appearing for the petitioner, senior advocate D S Naidu said the petition referred to 18 political personalities, who were or are ministers or MPs, against whom investigations were derailed, chargesheets were supplemented with assertions about their innocence to close the cases, or sanction for prosecution granted earlier were withdrawn. "Withdrawing sanction to prosecute is unheard of in criminal jurisprudence," he said. Referring to Tiwari's "politically motivated petition" argument, Justice Bhuyan told Naidu, "This is a malady not confined to Tamil Nadu alone. It is spread to the entire country. If you open a Pandora's box, it will come back to you one day". Tiwari said that investigations were carried out in the cases and taken to logical ends. The Madras high court was seized of some of the cases, he said. The bench told him, "Why don't you file a short affidavit giving details about the four cases where the previous sanction for prosecution was withdrawn allegedly after a change of political regime? We will confine the proceedings to these four cases, which appear to be serious". On the prayer of the petitioner to transfer trial in these cases against politicians to another state, the bench said it would create complications over appointment of public prosecutor (PP). Naidu said the state where the cases are transferred can be empowered to appoint the PP, to which the bench did not agree. Tamil Nadu, in its affidavit filed earlier, had said, "The criminal cases investigated by the Directorate of Vigilance and anti-corruption bureau are dealt with in accordance with law without extraneous pressure. In spite of the party in power, the investigation, trial and appeal proceedings are carried out as per the established law and procedure".
