HBCU partners with 24/7 Sports for historic recruiting opportunity
HBCU football is leveling up, and Jackson State is leading the charge. In a landmark move, Jackson State University has partnered with 24/7 Sports to host the largest HBCU Mega Camp in the country. Set to take place at the legendary Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium, this isn't just another offseason event - it's a statement.
So, what is a 'Mega Camp'? Think of it as a recruiting showcase on steroids. High school, JUCO, and transfer athletes from across the country descend on one field to get real-time looks from dozens of college coaches. Instead of flying around the country for individual visits, players get a shot to impress multiple programs at once. For schools, it's an efficient and high-reward scouting goldmine.
This year's event features an all-star lineup of over 40 college coaching staffs across the HBCU landscape and beyond. Representatives from Power 4, G5, FCS, D2, D3, NAIA, and junior colleges will be in attendance. HBCU Programs like Jackson State, FAMU, and Grambling are all confirmed. Power 4 schools, such as Colorado, Florida State, and the University of Southern California, will also be in attendance, and they're all coming ready to evaluate and offer.
But what truly sets this event apart is the partnership with 24/7 Sports, one of the most influential recruiting platforms in the country. Their involvement elevates the Mega Camp to a national stage. Player performances won't just stay on local radar. They'll be tracked, analyzed, and shared with a nationwide audience of fans, scouts, and college recruiters. 24/7 Sports will also be providing media coverage of the event, meaning recruits are only one highlight away from taking their game to the next level.
This is more than exposure - it's brand elevation. By aligning with a major media and recruiting powerhouse like 24/7 Sports, Jackson State is helping redefine how HBCU football is viewed across the college football world. It signals that elite talent doesn't just pass through the SEC or Big Ten - it's developing and thriving at HBCUs.
Hosting the event at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium only adds to the significance and aura of the event. A historic battleground of HBCU greatness, the stadium brings a rich legacy and big-stage feel that matches the camp's bold vision.
Jackson State isn't just hosting a camp - it's building a movement. And thanks to 24/7 Sports, the whole country is watching.

Charlotte's bold power play to bring CIAA Tournament home
When it comes to HBCU basketball, few events match the energy, culture, and community of the CIAA Tournament. And now, Charlotte is putting on a full-court press to bring the iconic event back to the Queen City—where many believe it truly belongs. After hosting the CIAA Tournament from 2006 to 2020, Charlotte is bidding to reclaim it for the 2028–2030 cycle, challenging current host Baltimore for the future of one of Black college sports' most celebrated weeks. Despite a scheduling conflict in 2027, city leaders are confident that the revamped proposal signals a new era of commitment to HBCU excellence. Advertisement During its original run, Charlotte generated over $650 million in economic impact, drawing fans from across the country. This time, city officials are leaning into even stronger infrastructure: hotel capacity is up 38% since 2020, and major upgrades—like the $245 million renovation of Spectrum Center—highlight Charlotte's readiness to host on a grander scale. 'Charlotte was always the CIAA's spiritual home,' said Councilman Malcolm Graham, a Johnson C. Smith University alum. 'This is more than basketball. It's about culture, equity, and legacy.' The city's pitch also taps into North Carolina's new major events fund, created alongside sports betting legislation, potentially easing financial burdens. Hotel pricing concerns—once a deal-breaker—have been addressed to avoid requiring rigid rate structures. And with everything from fan fests to scholarship galas proposed within city-owned venues, security and experience take center stage. Baltimore, which has hosted the tournament since 2021, brings a strong track record, including a $1.5 million annual scholarship commitment. But Charlotte aims to match that and raise the stakes with a more centralized and culturally immersive experience. Advertisement The CIAA Board of Presidents will vote this summer. If successful, Charlotte could welcome the CIAA back starting in 2028—ready to rewrite history where it all began. HBCU star makes 2025 All-UFL team
Chris Rowland continues to make his HBCU proud. The former Tennessee State standout has been named to the 2025 All-UFL Team as a wide receiver and return specialist for the DC Defenders. It's a well-deserved honor for one of the most electrifying players in spring football this season. Rowland made his presence felt all year long, consistently flipping field position and creating big plays for the Defenders. As a return specialist, he was a top ten performer in both punt return yardage and kickoff returns. Rowland averaged 21.9 yards on kickoff returns and 10.9 yards for punt returns. But Rowland wasn't just dangerous on special teams-he also proved to be a reliable target on offense. As a wide receiver, he's rated as the second-best pass catcher in the league with 42 receptions for 522 yards and 3 touchdowns in the regular season. His ability to get open in space and make defenders miss added another dynamic layer to the Defenders' offensive attack. Rowland's performance this season is another reminder of the high-level talent that comes out of HBCU programs. A former All-American at Tennessee State, he's now showing the professional football world what HBCU fans have known for years-Chris Rowland is the real deal. His selection to the All-UFL Team not only validates his work ethic and production but also raises his profile for potential NFL interest in the future. But his work isn't done yet, Rowland will lead the Defenders into a road game for the XFL Conference championship game on June 8 versus the St. Louis Battlehawks. The winner of that game will face the USFL Conference champions for the UFL championship on June 14. The post HBCU star makes 2025 All-UFL team appeared first on HBCU Gameday.
