Akie Iwai wins 2025 Standard Portland Classic, twin sister Chisato finishes ties for third
The winner of the 2025 Standard Portland Classic was Akie Iwai, an LPGA rookie who finished 23 under to win by four shots over Gurleen Kaur. She joins twin Chisato as a winner this season. Chisato won the 2025 Mexico Riviera Maya in May. Akie is older by one minute.
Akie shot 67-67-64-66 at Columbia Edgewater to win for the first time on the LPGA. She went bogey-free on Sunday. She's now played in 17 events and has made 12 cuts.
This week also marks her fourth top-10 finish. During a season when Japanese players won the first and last majors on the calendar, Akie is the latest from Japan to win on the LPGA.
Chisato shot a final-round 64, the round of the day Sunday, and she finished 19 under, five back of big sister.

CHICAGO (AP) — Freddy Peralta allowed one hit and struck out six batters and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 7-0 in the first half of a Monday doubleheader. All-Star pitcher Peralta (15-5, 2.78 ERA) shut Chicago out over six innings to help Milwaukee advance to an MLB-best record of 79-45. The Brewers, which had their franchise-record 14-game winning streak snapped by the Reds on Sunday, have won 23 of 28 games since the break. Brice Turang and Caleb Durbin each had two hits, two RBIs and a solo home run to lead the way. Reliever Drew Pomeranz retired the ensuing batter to escape the inning with a one-run deficit. Chicago called up two hitters on Monday in Luke Little and Gavin Hollowell. Sinner vows to play US Open after Cincy retirement
Jannik Sinner insisted on Monday he would be ready to defend his US Open crown after illness forced him to retire from his Cincinnati Open final clash with Carlos Alcaraz. World number one Sinner -- who is due to to play in the US Open's revamped mixed doubles tournament on Tuesday -- conceded defeat to Alcaraz on Monday after going 5-0 down in the first set. The Italian did not speak to journalists after the loss, issuing a statement saying only that he would definitely play at the US Open in New York, where the singles main draw starts on Sunday. "I love Grand Slams a lot, they are the main tournaments for, for my season and my career," Sinner said. "The US Open is going to be a tough tournament, but in the same time, I'm looking forward to it if I'm ready, physically and mentally. "I will be ready to push ... now a couple of days of recovery, and then we get again back to work, and hopefully we'll be ready. "(The Open) is for sure, the main goal here in the US. Royals' Salvador Perez out with illness in series opener against Rangers
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals scratched catcher Salvador Perez from the starting lineup of their series opener against the Texas Rangers on Monday night because of an illness. Perez was supposed to catch for starter Michael Wacha and bat fifth in the opener of an important four-game set between teams clinging to wild-card hope. Luke Maile will be behind the plate instead and bat eight in the lineup. Perez, a nine-time All-Star, is hitting .244 with 22 homers and 70 RBIs this season. Maile has become the primary backup in Kansas City after it sent Freddy Fermin to the Padres ahead of last month's nonwaiver trade deadline.
