IGP granted leave to initiate second contempt proceeding against Papagomo
Top cop Razarudin Husain is suing blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris for defamation over statements in four video postings published in December last year.
KUALA LUMPUR : The High Court has granted Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain leave to commence a second committal proceeding against blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris over a video he published on social media a day after apologising to Razarudin in court.
Judicial commissioner Gan Techiong fixed the application to be heard on an inter-partes basis on June 30.
The application will be heard together with an earlier committal proceeding brought by Razarudin against Wan Azri over the latter's purported failure to comply with an injunction order.
Razarudin's counsel S Raam Kumar earlier submitted that Wan Azri's remarks in the video, published on TikTok and YouTube, indicated that the apology he tendered to both the court and Razarudin on April 30 lacked remorse.
'The apology made by the defendant on April 30 was intended to deceive this honourable court and the plaintiff and to give a false impression that the defendant was remorseful for his actions,' the lawyer said, adding that Wan Azri's actions were tantamount to contempt of court.
Razarudin filed a RM3 million lawsuit against Wan Azri on Dec 27 last year over alleged defamation, which also involved Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
On Jan 10, Razarudin secured an injunction order prohibiting Wan Azri or his agents from publishing or disseminating statements defamatory of Razarudin on any social media platform until the defamation suit is resolved.
On Feb 10, Razarudin obtained leave of the High Court to initiate committal proceedings against Wan Azri over his failure to comply with the injunction order.

The funeral prayer for Muhammad Adib Hazim, a Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) sutdent, will be held at the surau of Kampung Pasir Badak, Besut, Terengganu and he will be laid to rest at the nearby cemetery. In the crash that around 1.10 am, 15 UPSI students were killed after the chartered bus they were travelling in from Jerteh, Terengganu to Tanjung Malim, Perak overturned in a collision with a Perodua Alza MPV on the JRTB near Tasik Banding, Perak. IPOH, June 9 — An attempt by Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) student to check on the whereabouts of two friends who were travelling on a chartered bus ended in heartbreak when he learned that both were killed in a crash early this morning. Mohamad Alif Nasnawi, 21, never imagined that the messages he sent to Nur Ayuni Maslan and Muhammad Adib Hazim Halim, both aged 21, last night would remain unanswered. His two friends were among the 15 UPSI students who perished in a fatal accident at KM53 of the East-West Highway (JRTB) near Tasik Banding in Gerik while returning to campus from the East Coast after celebrating Aidiladha. 'Last night I texted them, asking where they were, but there was no reply. I knew they were taking the bus, and this morning I found out they were involved in the accident,' he said when met at the Forensics Department of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) in Ipoh. Mohamad Alif, who is from Perak said, using chartered buses is a common practice among UPSI students from the East Coast when returning to university after semester breaks.
