Gerik crash: Banknote bouquet was Muhammad Adib Hazim Halim's final birthday gift to his mum, says brother
GERIK, June 9 — A bouquet of flowers crafted from banknotes, lovingly arranged as a birthday gift for his mother, became the final present from Muhammad Adib Hazim Halim, 21, before he perished in the tragic crash along the East-West Highway (JRTB) at Banun, Gerik, early this morning.
According to his elder brother, Muhammad Aiman Hazman Halim, 32, the bouquet was a token of love for their mother, Rus Lina Abd Razak, 69, in conjunction with her birthday celebration held with the family on Sunday.
'Adib really enjoyed creating decorative crafts. Previously, he also made a bouquet for our sister when she completed her Suksis training,' he said when met at the Forensics Unit of Gerik Hospital.
Muhammad Aiman said Adib was a devoted son, a memoriser of the Quran (tahfiz), and dearly loved by all his siblings.
He said the family learned about the accident after seeing viral images of the crash circulating on social media.
'Before the incident, ummi (our mother) had taken a photo of the bus Adib boarded and shared it in our family WhatsApp group. So, when we saw the viral photos, we immediately knew Adib was involved in the accident.
'Ummi also cried quietly in her room before her birthday celebration without knowing why she felt overwhelmed with emotion — she never imagined this would be the reason,' he said.
The funeral prayer for Muhammad Adib Hazim, a Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) sutdent, will be held at the surau of Kampung Pasir Badak, Besut, Terengganu and he will be laid to rest at the nearby cemetery.
In the crash that around 1.10 am, 15 UPSI students were killed after the chartered bus they were travelling in from Jerteh, Terengganu to Tanjung Malim, Perak overturned in a collision with a Perodua Alza MPV on the JRTB near Tasik Banding, Perak.
The crash also left 33 others injured, including the bus driver and co-driver, as well as the driver and three passengers of the Alza. — Bernama

KTMB services disrupted by cable thefts yet again
The Northern Komuter and Electric Train Service (ETS) were delayed due to the cable thefts. PETALING JAYA : Cable theft involving the signalling and communication systems on three Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad's (KTMB) northern routes today caused disruption and train delays of more than 60 minutes for both the Northern Komuter and Electric Train Service (ETS). The affected locations were the Tapah Road-Sungkai (Km250.5) route with 200 metres of cable stolen, Kamunting-Bukit Merah-Bagan Serai (Km87.25) route with 110 metres stolen, and Simpang Ampat-Bukit Mertajam (Km15.5) route with 40 metres affected, Bernama reported. Trains were delayed by 80 to 115 minutes. The services affected were EP9172 (KL Sentral- Butterworth), EG9321 (Butterworth-Segamat), EX9107 (Butterworth-KL Sentral), EX9207 (Padang Besar-KL Sentral), and EG9420 (Segamat-Padang Besar). In addition, the Northern KTM Komuter service on the Ipoh-Butterworth-Ipoh route was delayed by 30 minutes. KTMB said early notifications of the disruptions were sent to passengers via SMS and KTMB's official social media platforms. KTMB chief operating officer Zain Mat Taha said 45 cases of cable theft have been recorded in the northern sector from January to May this year. KTMB has announced a plan to upgrade its signalling network at a cost of RM12.8 million annually over the next three years, with a focus on hotspot areas. They plan to install manhole covers with special locking mechanisms at 21 locations, introduce CCTV cameras and drones, and have anti-climb security fencing. KTMB auxiliary police, with the help of police, will intensify patrols in hotspot areas to curb theft. KTMB incurred losses of RM1.28 million last year and RM162,000 as of March this year from these cable thefts.

We only act on formal complaints, MCMC tells Rafizi

This comes after Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli earlier today questioned the internet regulator and police over their response to social media comments about PKR's recent party elections. Rafizi claimed that several netizens who commented on the polls alleged that they were approached by MCMC and police officers, had their phones and SIM cards seized, and were even notified that they were under investigation, despite, in his view, posting nothing more than personal opinions. Responding to the matter, MCMC deputy managing director Zurkarnain Yasin said the commission's actions are guided by existing laws and regulatory frameworks and, thus, probes cannot be initiated arbitrarily. 'All actions taken by the MCMC must be based on verified information and are subject to legal provisions, including the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,' he told FMT. 'This ensures that enforcement activities are carried out fairly, transparently, and within the scope of its statutory mandate.'
