Chilean actress Antonia Zegers, whose notable credits include several of Pablo Larrain's films, including 'Tony Manero,' 'The Club,' 'No,' and his Pinochet-as-Dracula pic, 'The Count,' has boarded the upcoming drama 'The Comeback' ('El Regreso') by Peru's Joanna Lombardi.
Zegers, who also toplined Lucia Puenzo's lauded series 'The Pack' ('La Jauria') serves as a juror at the Ibero-American Fiction section of the ongoing 40th Guadalajara Film Festival (FICG), wrapping on June 14.

'What first drew me in was the chance to work with Joanna – there's a quiet strength in her, a way of seeing the world that speaks to me. I trust that together, we'll create something truly special,' she told Variety.
Lombardi is a former creative executive for Movistar in Latin America and leading Peruvian shingle Tondero Films. Her directorial feature debut 'Casadentro' won Montreal Festival's Golden Zenit as well as the international critics Fipresci award. She also directed Peru's first Netflix Original 'How to Get Over a Breakup' ('Soltera codiciada').
Set against the little-known Aug. 28 festivities in the coastal border town of Tacna in Peru, 'The Comeback' follows Martha, a once-famous actress in crisis, who returns to Tacna to sell her family home and use the proceeds to fund a play that she hopes could revive her career. As the city celebrates Aug. 28th, which marks the anniversary of Tacna's return to Peru after its war with Chile, her plans are upended by her sister's sudden illness, forcing Martha to stay in the place she hoped to leave behind.
'This film is about memory, but it is also about identity as Martha left home at 18 for Chile, which upset her family. She was seen as a Peruvian in Chile but when she returns, she is seen as Chilean because she has picked up a Chilean accent,' said Lombardi who has put together a crack – mostly female – team that includes Inti Briones ('To Kill a Man,' 'Jayro Bustamante's 'Rita') as her DP, Chile's Soledad Salfate ('A Fantastic Woman') as her editor and Luciano Supervielle ('The Freshly Cut Grass') as her music composer.
Chile's Florencia Larrea ('My Tender Matador') and Uruguay's Agustina Chiarino of Bocacha Films ('Agárrame fuerte'), both key drivers of Latin American cinema, have also boarded as co-producers. They are seeking a European producing partner.
'The Comeback' is written by Lombardi's mother, author Giovanna Pollarolo, the wife of Peru's legendary filmmaker Francisco Lombardi, who wrote all the screenplays to his films, including his hit Goya-nominated satire 'Captain Pantoja and the Special Service.'
'It will be the first time I collaborate with my mother,' said Lombardi, adding: 'It was her idea to set a story in Tacna, which we later co-developed. Tacna was where my father was born and where I spent all my childhood summers.'
For some historical context, Tacna played a pivotal role in The War of the Pacific, in which Peru was defeated by Chile in 1883. Yet Tacna remained under Chilean control until August 28, 1929, nearly 50 years later. Almost a century has passed, but the conflict remains unresolved. Deep-seated resentment toward Chile still lingers among the people of Tacna, a reality that must be addressed for true reconciliation. 'Every August 28, the city comes to a standstill to celebrate but ironically, few Peruvians outside Tacna know or remember why,' she said.
'Sometimes I feel people are split between those who want to remember the past and those who prefer to move forward. I often wonder which is healthier,' she mused.
Filming is scheduled to take place in Tacna in August next year.

Spaceballs 2 Cast Adds Returning Stars & Keke Palmer Ahead of 2027 Release

Spaceballs 2 officially has a release date window, with Amazon MGM Studios announcing that Rick Moranis, Mel Brooks, and more will return for the sequel to the cult classic comedy movie. According to a new report from Variety, Amazon MGM Studios has scheduled Spaceballs 2 for a theatrical release sometime in 2027. Alongside that news, the company also announced that Mel Brooks — who wrote, directed, and starred in the 1987 original film — would be returning for the film, as would Rick Moranis and Bill Pullman, who played Dark Helmet and Lone Starr in the original, respectively. The returning trio wasn't the only casting news, though. Deadline also reported that Keke Palmer was joining the cast of the Josh Gad-led sequel. It's currently unclear who Palmer will be playing, and also unclear what the plot for the sequel will be. In a video on social media confirming the film's release date window, Brooks joked about just how many franchises have come out in the 38 years since Spaceballs. According to reports last year, Spaceballs 2 is set to be directed by Josh Greenbaum with a screenplay from Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez. A parody of Star Wars, Spaceballs starred Pullman as Lone Starr, John Candy as Barf, Daphne Zuniga as Princess Vespa, Joan Rivers as the voice of Dot Matrix, and Moranis as Lord Dark Helmet. Brooks also played President Skroob and Yogurt in the film. 'In a distant galaxy, planet Spaceball has depleted its air supply, leaving its citizens reliant on a product called Perri-Air,' the synopsis for Spaceballs reads. 'In desperation, Spaceball's leader President Skroob (Mel Brooks) orders the evil Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) to kidnap Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) of oxygen-rich Druidia and hold her hostage in exchange for air. But help arrives for the Princess in the form of renegade space pilot Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) and his half-man, half-dog partner, Barf (John Candy).' ‘Rose Hill' Romance Series Is Becoming a Show—And Fans Can't Wait

Elsie Silver's popular Rose Hill series will make its debut on screen, Variety revealed Thursday. Amazon MGM Studios is set to develop the show and bring the best-selling author along for the ride! There isn't information on the cast and release date yet, but Silver shared the news on Instagram with her 312,000 followers writing, 'In a true 'pinch me' moment I am beyond thrilled to share that my Rose Hill series is in development for television! I am honored to be working with an incredible team at @amazonmgmstudios and @templehillent. I know that these characters are in the best hands and cannot wait to see this very special town come to life.' Silver will be the executive producer of the show, along with Temple Hill's Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, and James Seidman. Annika Patton of Temple Hill will produce the show, according to Variety. The Rose Hill show's official logline is: 'Welcome to Rose Hill, a small town nestled in the Rocky Mountains, where crystal-clear lakes, iconic honky-tonks, and wide-open skies create the perfect backdrop for creativity, reinvention—and falling in love. In this warm, sexy, and heartfelt ensemble drama, both lifelong locals and big-city transplants discover that love is messiest when it's real, and family is often the one you build.' Untitled Entertainment, on behalf of Kimberly Bower at Park, Fine & Bower Literary Management, brokered the deal, according to Variety, and comes on the heels of Amazon's recent triumph with shows based on bestselling novels. The success of Amazon's 'Daisy Jones & the Six,' 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' and 'Reacher' are good omens for 'Rose Hill's' upcoming release. The Rose Hill book series is set in the picturesque, small town of Rose Hill, nestled in the Rocky Mountains. Each stand-alone novel follows different characters as they navigate the struggles, successes, and steamy love stories that Rose Hill brings. Currently, there are three books in the Rose Hill series–Wild Love (2024), Wild Eyes (2024) and Wild Side (2025)–but a fourth book, Wild Card, is expected to be released in September 2025, according to Goodreads. The series's fast popularity gained attention from readers across the country, making a strong fan base and following. According to Amazon, Wild Love and Wild Eyes both achieved Sunday Times bestseller status shortly after their releases. The first novel, Wild Love, follows Ford Grant, a billionaire seeking refuge and the chance to follow his dreams in Rose Hill. His plans go awry when parenthood and a love interest enter the mix. Silver's second novel, Wild Eyes, traces country music star Skylar Stone through her journey of heartbreak, personal growth, and new love. The most recent novel in the series, Wild Side, explores parenting and loss through the complex relationship between Tabitha and Rhys. More details are (hopefully) coming soon about the show, but in the meantime, fans can celebrate their favorite series finally coming to life… and eventually screens! Arnold Schwarzenegger Blames L.A. ICE Raids on Republicans and Democrats' Lack of Immigration Reform: ‘They're All Political Hacks Rather Than Public Servants'

Arnold Schwarzenegger, former governor of California, commented on the Los Angeles immigration protests and ICE raids while on the red carpet for the Season 2 premiere of his Netflix series, 'Fubar.' On the topic of President Trump's decision to send in the National Guard and the Marines to the site of the protests, Schwarzenegger told Variety, 'Well, I'm not so much interested in that as I am that the politicians have the responsibility to create immigration reform so we don't have to have this crap going on in the first place.' And so that's what needs to be done so that you don't have to go and start arresting people in the first place, so we know who is in this country and who is working here, who has the temporary working permit, who has the permanent working permit,' Schwarzenegger, who served as governor from 2003 to 2011, added. In response to protests over the escalating ICE raids in L.A., Trump deployed 2,000 California National Guard troops, which first arrived in the city Sunday. Since then, the president has sent an additional 2,000 troops as well as 700 Marines. The protests have so far been held around mostly around downtown L.A., where Mayor Karen Bass has imposed a nightly curfew. 'We don't even know who is in here,' Schwarzenegger said, referring to collecting data on undocumented workers. 'For decades now, they have been avoiding the subject because it's an advantage to both parties to not do it. So they're all political hacks, party hacks, rather than public servants.' Gabriel Luna, who acted opposite Schwarzenegger in 'Fubar' Season 1 and currently appears in 'The Last of Us,' also commented on the ICE raids at the premiere. 'Abolish it. Abolish ICE altogether. It's a terrible waste of resources,' Luna, who is of Mexican descent, told Variety. 'Those resources could be funneled to some more effective ways of handling this immigration issue that they are saying we have. The 15 guys waiting to get a job at 5 a.m. at the Home Depot parking lot are not the ones we need to be worrying about, but that's who's getting scooped up,' he added. The current wave of protests was initially sparked by growing threats of ICE raids late last week. A Home Depot in Paramount became the site of early protests when residents began seeing immigration authorities near the store last Saturday. 'I think everyone with a heart knows and stands on the right side of history…We're becoming increasingly more house cats. We need to be outside. We need to be in the street, and we need to show where we stand. Los Angeles is one of the biggest cities in the world, and the rest of the world goes the way that L.A., New York, Chicago, these places are going,' Luna continued. 'Today and yesterday, incredible, incredible marches in Chicago, incredible marches in New York. It just started, it really just started.'
