'Hard Cut Vodka' hits stores today as a self-described 'bold new entrant' to the premium alcohol space, designed for a 'vodka world gone soft,' per a brand description. Launched by the legendary Swedish action star here in the U.S., Lundgren's vodka sources potatoes from Idaho with water from the Rocky Mountains for a true all-American spirit. The russet potatoes offer a slightly creamier mouthfeel and smoother finish than grain-based vodkas, while the mountain water adds crispness and purity. Bottled at 90 proof, the resulting spirit is refreshingly full-bodied, with hints of green apple, fennel and butterscotch, whether sipped chilled, on the rocks or in a cocktail.

Lundgren says work on the vodka began more than five years ago, and the actor says he's been involved in every step of the process, from selecting the ingredients, to working on the branding, to undergoing bartending training with industry mixologists.
'We wanted something that stood out,' he tells Rolling Stone; 'a vodka with real character, a bold presence, and a very smooth finish. That's how Hard Cut Vodka was born.'
As for why the man who famously fought Rocky and played He-Man in Masters of the Universe is suddenly concocting cocktails and tasting notes? Lundgren says his two worlds aren't that dissimilar.
'I always bring intensity and focus to what I do, whether it's my years in action films or my passion for training and adventure,' he says. 'Hard Cut Vodka is the same — it's about strength, resilience, and living life to the fullest. It's tough but refined. Just like a good action hero.'
Rolling Stone caught up with Lundgren to talk about his transition from actor to spirits maker, the 'larger than life' approach he wants to bring to the brand, and why he hopes Hard Cut Vodka will be part of his legacy with fans.
You've probably been offered many different brand collaborations and product launches over the years – what was it about this one that made you say yes?
Well, I started the process of creating Hard Cut Vodka over five years ago, because I prefer my vodka on the rocks and couldn't really find one that I loved. I ended up creating a premium all-American vodka that is higher proof, smooth, potato-based, and delicious both on the rocks and in cocktails.
Why was now the right time to release this?
I first came up with the idea over five years ago and it's taken all this time to develop the liquid, packaging, name, marketing campaign and make sure that this a quality brand that I can really stand behind. In addition, I felt the vodka space hadn't been exciting for a while and that there was room for a new, fun and premium vodka. I've had a long film career and this is a new challenge for me.
Why vodka versus wine or tequila or a totally different product category?
Look, I like to drink a good red wine, sometimes a top tequila, but vodka is my liquor of choice. I grew up in Scandinavia where people drink a lot of vodka. I personally like a great vodka, like Hard Cut Vodka, because it has a neutral yet luxurious taste, and it is perfectly suited for many different cocktails.
What are some ways that you would say Hard Cut Vodka stands out amongst its competitors?
I like to keep things simple and enjoy it on the rocks, but Hard Cut blends in well in any cocktail because of its higher ABV and smooth finish. The lack of sharp aftertaste, contrary to many other vodkas, makes a Hard Cut Vodka cocktail more delicious. I prefer to drink my Hard Cut Vodka chilled over a big rock, and it really allows you to appreciate the craftsmanship that went into the liquid.

After decades of being a movie star, are you excited to enter your entrepreneurial era?
I've been in a lot movies and that has been tough, but satisfying. Now, this new 'Hard Cut' era has certainly put me to a different test, in more unfamiliar territory. The satisfaction here is that I get to share my favorite product with the consumers.
What's been more difficult for you: filming a movie or distilling your own vodka?
Both are creative endeavors that have many challenges. I have been in the movie business for a long time so that comes easier to me. Being an entrepreneur and creating my own vodka brand however, has allowed me to wear a lot of hats that I haven't worn before, from both the business and financial sides. While Hard Cut Vodka represents me, you might detect a hint of the characters I have played in our marketing campaign. I've linked the two by creating a name that ties the two together. The name Hard Cut Vodka was derived from the term 'Hard Cut' in filmmaking, which is used to help move the story forward. The brand was created to invoke a combination of toughness, elegance and a sense of humor. Like a good action star.
Do you see this vodka brand as part of your long-term legacy?
Absolutely. I've worked harder on this than anything else in my life, including martial arts, my Chemical Engineering degree, and my career in show business. For the past 40 years as an actor, director, and producer, I've been connecting with people from all around the world, trying to entertain and inspire them with strength, sensitivity, and humor. Hard Cut Vodka is no different. This is a brand I want to see grow, and I know that when the dust settles, we will stand as the ultimate heavyweight champion of the vodka category. It's a reflection of who I am, and I hope it inspires people to live boldly.

Drew Sidora Reveals She Dated Michael B. Jordan: 'People That Know, Know'
Drew Sidora's latest confession about a past relationship has left many surprised, mostly because it has never been mentioned until now. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star recently sat down with Carlos King on his Reality with the King podcast, where she dished on her past relationships with Ty Young and Dennis McKinley — while also dropping a bombshell. The Step Up star revealed that she once dated Michael B. Jordan, long before he became the Hollywood heartthrob and talent he is today. 'I dated Michael B. Jordan,' she casually said. Are Influencer Brands at Risk Without Influencers?
Style Points is a column about how fashion intersects with the wider world. In 1912, the first influencer cancellation took place. (Well, unless you count Marie Antoinette's.) Lady Duff-Gordon, a socialite and designer of the line Lucile, survived the sinking of the Titanic—but was rumored to have bribed the lifeboat's crew not to save as many people so she could make it to safety. When she reached dry land, a trial ensued, with many of her Lucile-wearing stans in the audience. By those standards, today's influencer scandals—like this winter's tempest around Swedish influencer and Djerf Avenue designer Matila Djerf's alleged mistreatment of employees—pale in comparison. But that story is proof that influencers have always been around in some form, and that their role as social lightning rods is nothing new. And with so many influencers now not just promoting, but designing, brands, it's a markedly strange time for the industry. While in the past, a celebrity or model's behavior could sink an endorsement deal, what happens when the spokesperson themselves also owns the means of production, so to speak? 'Any time you put a name on a label, whether it is an influencer brand or a designer's name, you risk that individual running into reputational issues and harming the brand in some way,' says Susan Scafidi, the academic director of Fordham's Fashion Law Institute. While influencers are using their vast followings to leverage their own brands, that following is 'built on shifting sand. There is always a danger that something will happen and the whole sandcastle will crumble.' To avoid that 'key person risk,' as it's known in the business, there are a few ways to future-proof an influencer-led brand. Some investors will ask for a 'morals clause.' Says Scafidi, 'It sounds very 19th-century, but it is about reputation.' She always recommends to emerging designers that they create some sort of separation between the personal and the professional. For example, not making the name on the label their own, and maintaining separate social media accounts. At the same time, 'we want someone to follow who isn't just a generic company without a face. So we're basically dealing with a double-edged sword,' she says. 'On the one hand, a great influencer with a personal touch and appeal to followers is brilliant marketing. On the other hand, humans are fallible.' Which explains why several brands founded by influential people, like Toteme (co-founded by Elin Kling) and Anine Bing, don't lead with the image of their founder front and center. (An approach famously pioneered by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen at The Row.) Lia Haberman, author of the In Case You Missed It newsletter and creator economy expert, points to Emma Chamberlain and her coffee company as a sort of Gallant to some fellow influencers' Goofus: 'She's trying to establish a good product versus [it] simply being an extension of who she is and who her fandom is. She has encouraged fans to approach and consume Chamberlain Coffee, but at the same time, she has not pinned all its success on herself. She doesn't post constantly whenever there's a new product launch; it's a pared-down presence. And I think that's smart.' Muddying the waters is the fact that the definition of 'influencer' has morphed so much in recent years. Designers like Olympia Gayot and Joseph Altuzarra now command huge social media audiences, as do some editors and stylists who were previously relegated to more behind-the-scenes roles. While they're increasingly expected to 'influence' as well as design, edit, or style, with all those new eyes on them, they may face the same pitfalls as more traditional influencers. Then there's the matter of the economy. (You knew we were going to get there at some point, right?) In times of financial turbulence, says Scafidi, 'people start to blame fashion. And because fashion is close to the body and therefore closely affiliated with the person [wearing it], fashion gets blamed more than, say, real estate. We save our rancor for fashion, not for someone who has a big house, because we don't see the house, but we see the person on Instagram living an amazing life, apparently having a limitless supply of outfits. And because of that, resentment bubbles up.' (On the other hand, cancellations rarely stick these days. As Haberman says, 'If you hang in there long enough, everyone can make a comeback.') Haberman predicts that micro- and nanoinfluencers, who have the most average-Jane appeal, will rule the next few years, while mega-influencers will ride out any small scandals and be fine. But, she says, 'I do think the middle class of influencer is going to struggle. Through no fault of their own, just because of that perception that they're neither relatable nor aspirational.' It's a tough balance to master—just ask Lady Duff-Gordon.
