Former Lee High employee who pleaded guilty to having sex with student begins 10 year sentence
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A former Huntsville City Schools employee who entered a guilty plea for engaging in a sexual act with a student was sentenced in a Madison County Circuit Court Monday.
On May 5, court records show that Duane Edward Yarbrough was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Yarbrough entered a guilty plea for a school employee engaging in a sexual act with a student on April 22.
He was indicted on the charge in January 2024 and arrested in February 2024. Jail records showed Yarbrough was released from the Madison County Jail three hours after he was booked with a bond set at $15,000.
As part of the plea agreement, he also agreed to pay a fine of $1,000 in each case, as well as pay compensation to the family in the amount of $100. He is also ordered to have no contact with the victim, submit to DNA testing, and comply with all the provisions of the Alabama Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
A Huntsville City Schools spokesperson confirmed to News 19 that Yarbrough was employed by the school system from 2016-2022 and was a JROTC instructor for Lee/New Century High School.

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A head-on crash that involved a motorcycle has left a man from Lawrence County dead. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said that a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was driving along Lawrence County 143 near Lawrence County 141 when it crashed head-on with a 2014 Dodge Durango around 10:08 p.m. ALEA identified the deceased man as Anthony B. Maxwell, 42, of Town Creek. Authorities said that Maxwell was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's Highway Patrol Division. Katherine Robertson announces candidacy for Alabama Attorney General
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WHNT) — Katherine Robertson has launched her campaign for Alabama Attorney General. Robertson announced her intentions to run for the position in front of a packed out crowd at Regions Field in Birmingham. She served as Chief Counsel to Attorney General Steve Marshall for nearly a decade andpreviously worked at the U.S. Department of Justice and as legislative counsel to Senator Jeff Sessions. Robertson, a state native, grew up in a farming family within Dallas County. She is a graduate of Auburn University and the University of Alabama School of Law. 'Alabama needs a proven fighter who will harness the power of the Attorney General's office to protect our communities and uphold our values,' Robertson said during her announcement speech. 'I believe the first civil right of every Alabamian is to live free from the fear of violence. As Attorney General, I will ensure violent offenders, including those in our countryillegally, do not roam freely, and law enforcement will always know I have their back.' Two men accused of child sex crimes arrested after child predator operation
MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Two Decatur men accused of child sex crimes were arrested after a child predator operation took place. On April 26, 2024, authorities conducted an operation focused on Child Sex Trafficking. The purpose of the operation was to identify, investigate, and arrest predators seeking children for sexual acts. During the operation, investigators arrested Corey DeWayne Wynn, 50 of Decatur and Daytron Shawntrell Tolliver, 38, of Decatur. Wynn and Tolliver were both charged with Electronic Solicitation of a Child, and Traveling to Meet a Child for an Unlawful Sex Act. MCSO said the charges stem from the incident that took place in April. The Morgan County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division, Morgan County Sheriff's Office Drug Enforcement Unit, Morgan County District Attorney's Office, US Army Cyber Special Agents and Limestone County Sheriff's Office all assisted during the investigation. Additionally, The Morgan County Sheriff's Fugitive Unit executed Grand Jury Arrests warrants for Human Trafficking for both men.
