Bafana Bafana turn on the heat in chilly Bloemfontein to reach the COSAFA Cup final
On a chilly Bloemfontein evening, South Africa's Bafana Bafana turned on the heat to defeat Comoros 3-1 in their COSAFA Cup semi-final at Free State Stadium on Friday night.
The outcome means Bafana Bafana have advanced to Sunday's final and will play defending champions Angola, who defeated Madagascar 4-1 in the other semi-final on Friday.
After the match, South Africa's coach Vela Khumalo praised his team's proactive strategy, emphasising the importance of setting the tone with an early goal.
Khumalo revealed that the team's approach against Comoros was clear from the first whistle: get an early goal and set the tone.
The plan was to start with energy and intent, applying pressure and making sure South Africa didn't leave anything to chance.
'We said we are going to play with two (number) 10s. We are going to play with one top man (striker), and we wanted to end the goal leaks so that we can unsettle them and open them up," said Khumalo.
"If you look at the teams that we have been playing against, they sit back and then they catch us on set-plays and start a (counter-attack) situation.
'So, in this case, what we said was that let's have a quick goal, let's unsettle them, let's play the ball behind them, but let's draw them in because they were marking us tightly.
"Once we managed to draw them in, we attacked with our lone striker. It has worked for us, and I'm happy that we scored the goals that we needed this time around.'
With this victory, South Africa will face Angola, brimming with confidence from their performance against Comoros, as they set out to pursue the ultimate glory in front of their fans.

Kaizer Chiefs news: Congolese attacker and Bafana winger
In under two years, Kaizer Chiefs have signed two attacking players from the Democratic Republic of Congo. It started with the striker/winger Christian Saile, and then in January with the lanky winger Glody Lilepo. According to this new report, Kaizer Chiefs now have eyes on a Congolese attacking midfielder named Maxi Ngenzeli from Young Africans in Tanzania. Ngenzeli will not be new to coach Nasreddine Nabi. The Tunisian mentor fine-tuned the goal-scoring midfielder in the 2021/22 season at Yanga. Junior Khanye: 'Tau can't goto Chiefs or Pirates' 'At the moment the club has not yet signed some of the players who they want nor those they are looking at,' an insider told Soccer Laduma . 'It's believed that they are spreading the search wide so that they can get the kind of players they really need this season… Full story here. Chiefs midfielder desperate to play for Bafana
Cele was originally selected in the Bafana squad for this year's Cosafa Cup but was unable to make it due to injury. Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Thabo Cele says he is chomping at the bit to play for Bafana Bafana. Cele was originally selected in the Bafana squad for this year's Cosafa Cup but was unable to make it due to injury. ALSO READ: Ahly and Sundowns face defining World Club Cup campaigns 'Any opportunity I'm given to represent the country, I'd wake up even at 2 AM to play for the nation. But it's just that I've been struggling with an injury,' Cele told FarPost. Chiefs' Cele – 'I want to be part of that' 'I do watch Bafana games because it's football and I support the national team. I want to be part of that. When we grow up as young boys, we have dreams of representing the country. 'So, this is something I've been fighting for even with the Under-20s and U-23s. Even the soldiers, when they go to fight, wear a South African badge. So we want to be part of that. 'When I got that (COSAFA Cup) call-up, I was here in Durban, and instantly the doctor indicated that it was not possible (to join the team),' he added. Cele, 28, joined Chiefs in January and had a decent second half of the season with Amakhosi, who won the Nedbank Cup, but finished a disappointing tenth in the Betway Premiership. Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has previously indicated that he cannot select Chiefs players for the Bafana first team, because of the side's poor performances. 'I can't' 'For me, for the moment I can't select players from Kaizer Chiefs,' said Broos. ALSO READ: Sundowns set for tough CWC group stage 'I hope that they make a better season next year. Ok, they've won the Cup, but I think that was the only highlight in Chiefs' season. All the rest was not so good.'

Kaizer Chiefs transfer news: Mayele, Salum, Mayambela, Saleng
Kaizer Chiefs are expected to splash money once the transfer window opens in the next few weeks. Amakhosi have been linked to various top players such as Fiston Mayele, Mihlai Mayambela and Feisal Salum. With Nasreddine Nabi desperate to get the club back on top, it was rumoured he left for Egypt to try to sign Pyramids striker Fiston Mayele. The Congolese striker was instrumental during the CAF Champions League, helping his side to their first ever title. According to Soccer Laduma , Pyramids are looking to offer Mayele with a two-year contract offer which is reportedly close to US$3 million (approximately R53 million). 'The only way Mayele can join Kaizer Chiefs is if the player himself wants to reunite with coach Nasreddine Nabi,' a source told the publication. 'It won't be because of money. Pyramids FC are offering him enough money to stay at the club or sell him to a club that can offer more money than Kaizer Chiefs. Chiefs are believed to be offering around a R5 million signing on fee to be spread in three seasons and a monthly salary of between R1 million and up to R1.5 million. So it's kind of difficult for Chiefs to sign him if it's all about money only. Unless the player himself loves to come and play for the club,' the insider said. Kaizer Chiefs signed three players in the last transfer window but their biggest spending came in August/September when they brought in seven players. Nabi has also been eyeing Azam FC superstar Feisal Salum, who he coached at Yanga SC. The 27-year-old creative midfielder impressed for his country Tanzania when they played against Bafana Bafana earlier this month and is seen as the player who can get Amakhosi's midfield ticking. According to iDiski Times, Bafana Bafana and Aris Limassol winger Mihlali Mayambela is keen on playing for Kaizer Chiefs. 'Aris Limassol and Bafana Bafana winger Mihlali Mayambela is open to a PSL move with Kaizer Chiefs, who are believed to be his preferred team of choice,' the publication reported. Another star player linked to Amakhosi is Monnapule Saleng. The 27-year-old speedy winger has not kicked a ball for Orlando Pirates since December last year. If he leaves the Buccaneers in the coming transfer window, Kaizer Chiefs will likely pounce.
