Kaizer Chiefs: Ex-coach set to return to Naturena!

Kaizer Chiefs are planning on bringing make a very familiar face to Naturena. Kaizer Chiefs continue to undergo major changes to their team. However, it is not just the playing squad that will be changing. Amakhosi are planning on bringing back a well-known former coach to assist the first team. Chiefs are planning on bringing ex-coach, Dillon Sheppard back to the help out the first team. 'That's the plan. The club is believed to have spoken to the senior technical team about his addition and apparently all parties agreed that it's a good idea, mainly in assisting with the local players whether young or experienced stars. So that's the position right now,' the insider stated on SNL . Furthermore, he could take up a hybrid coaching role at Chiefs next season. 'The arrangement is that he would be with the senior team during the week, and when, and if the DDC is playing, then he will be with them. You know most of the time coach Vela Khumalo is with the Under-17 national team and in September they are going to the FIFA Under-17 World Cup so coach Sheppard will still be coaching there (in the DDC) as well. Apparently that's the arrangement as things stand,' he added on the same publication. Chiefs look set to part ways with Yusuf Maart. Meaning, Nabi and Amakhosi management must appoint a new captain. These are the Chiefs players favoured to lead the Soweto giants next season. Meanwhile, Chiefs have been spotted with several new faces. SIX of them have already been unveiled โ€“ Nkanyiso Shinga, Flavio Silva, Ethan Chislett, Paseka Mako, Thabiso Monyane and Siphesihle Ndlovu. Furthermore, Etiosa Ighodaro (Mamelodi Sundowns) and Asanele Velabayi are both a part of the Chiefs quad that travelled to the Netherlands. Khumalo confident Broos will pick promising Cosafa players for Bafana

Despite failing to win the Cosafa Cup, losing Sunday's final at Free State Stadium 3-0 to Angola, Bafana Bafana B coach Vela Khumalo feels his side had a good tournament and several players raised their hands for selection to Hugo Broos's senior combination. Khumalo emphasised the invaluable experience his squad gained. 'I think this was a good tournament,' he said. 'It was more about us seeing other players that we need to have for Bafana Bafana to beef up. 'I think credit must go to the boys being called from recess and bringing them in for two days [and then] to come in and start playing. ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ โ„‚๐•†๐”ธโ„‚โ„'๐•Š โ„๐”ผ๐”ธโ„‚๐•‹๐•€๐•†โ„• ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ "๐™ธ๐š ๐š ๐šŠ๐šœ ๐šŠ๐š•๐š• ๐šŠ๐š‹๐š˜๐šž๐š ๐š•๐šŠ๐š™๐šœ๐šŽ ๐š˜๐š ๐šŒ๐š˜๐š—๐šŒ๐šŽ๐š—๐š๐š›๐šŠ๐š๐š’๐š˜๐š—" South Africa coach Vela Khumalo reflecting on their 3โƒฃโž–0โƒฃ loss in the #COSAFACup2025 final against Angola! #SABCSportFootball #COSAFACup โ€” SABC Sport (@SABC_Sport) June 15, 2025 'The preparations went well. I think people can see we have a big number of players who are ready to help Bafana. 'These are the tournaments that are going to help us identify our strong points. I think we played good football, and one can say that out of the tournament itself, what we are lacking is that we are not scoring goals. 'We will need to get strikers who will come and score the goals.' Khumalo said it will be up to senior national coach Broos to decide which players he might select from the Cosafa squad, but he is confident some will be called. ๐Ÿ† โ„‚๐•†๐•Š๐”ธ๐”ฝ๐”ธ โ„‚๐•Œโ„™ ๐Ÿš๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿš๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ† ๐Ÿฅ… โ’ผโ“„โ’ถโ“: Black Sable Antelopes are now in control of the match! ๐€๐ง๐ ๐จ๐ฅ๐š ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ด 3โƒฃโž–0โƒฃ ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ ๐’๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก ๐€๐Ÿ๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐š ๐Ÿšจ LIVE ๐Ÿฅ‡ Final ๐Ÿ“บ SABC 1 ๐Ÿ“ฑ ๐ŸŒ #SABCSportFootball #COSAFACup โ€” SABC Sport (@SABC_Sport) June 15, 2025 'This [tournament] was more for Broos to be able to identify one or two players, to say these are the ones I can take to Bafana Bafana first team. 'This tournament is definitely something that is helping us because we have a large number of players who are not getting call-ups, and if they are called for this kind of tournament, it is a plus for us and the country. 'So it is up to Broos to say who he needs to pick and [where to] beef up.' Players Ime Okon, Aden McCarthy and Kamogelo Sebelebele had a strong tournament.

Fatigue, wasted scoring chances at the heart of Bafana Bafana's defeat in the COSAFA Cup final

South Africa's coach at the 2025 COSAFA Cup, Vela Khumalo. South Africa's coach at the 2025 COSAFA Cup, Vela Khumalo, said fatigue, wasted scoring chances at the heart of Bafana Bafana's 3-0 defeat in the COSAFA Cup final on Sunday. The South Africans had numerous chances to score early in the match. However, a combination of wasted opportunities and a lack of composure in the final third ultimately saw their hopes for glory dashed. Bafana Bafana struggled to find their rhythm as players displayed signs of fatigue throughout the match. They could not muster the energy needed to press decisively against a disciplined Angolan side. It seemed their previous game against Comoros may have contributed to a loss of sharpness in the final. It was a disappointing conclusion to the tournament after high expectations based on some promising performances ahead of the championship round. Fatigue and wasted goalscoring opportunities saw Bafana Bafana succumb to a 3-0 defeat against Angola in the 2025 COSAFA Cup final in Bloemfontein on Sunday. It was back-to-back conquests FOR Angola after their 5-0 demolition of Namibia in last year's final, in Port Elizabeth. Angola's star player, Laurindo Dilson Maria Aurรฉlio, more commonly known as Depu, scored two goals and was the outstanding player in the tournament. With a remarkable 13 goals in just 10 COSAFA Cup appearances, including back-to-back Golden Boots, his talent will not go unnoticed by PSL clubs seeking to boost their attacking options. Bafana Bafana coach Vela Khumalo said, despite the defeat, several players could be valuable additions to the senior national squad in the future. 'We tried really. We wanted to be even more offensive, but the energy was somehow depleted. It is one of those things we accept and move on,' said Khumalo. 'Like I'm saying, we took silver, and it was a good exposure for our boys. One or two in this team, I think, will beef up the senior Bafana Bafana squad. 'We played against solid opposition. It was Angola's first team.' For this group of players, the focus now shifts to the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), where South Africa will face tough competition in Group C against Uganda, Niger, Guinea, and Algeria. The tournament will kick off on 2 August, across three East African countries: Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. This young Bafana Bafana team will have an opportunity to regroup and refine their skills on the continental stage. Unlike the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the CHAN tournament features only players who play in their national domestic leagues. That means no European-based stars โ€“ only local talent representing their countries. It is a showcase of Africa's best homegrown players, often providing a springboard for emerging stars to secure moves abroad.

Bafana Bafana turn on the heat in chilly Bloemfontein to reach the COSAFA Cup final

On a chilly Bloemfontein evening, South Africa's Bafana Bafana turned on the heat to defeat Comoros 3-1 in their COSAFA Cup semi-final at Free State Stadium on Friday night. The outcome means Bafana Bafana have advanced to Sunday's final and will play defending champions Angola, who defeated Madagascar 4-1 in the other semi-final on Friday. After the match, South Africa's coach Vela Khumalo praised his team's proactive strategy, emphasising the importance of setting the tone with an early goal. Khumalo revealed that the team's approach against Comoros was clear from the first whistle: get an early goal and set the tone. The plan was to start with energy and intent, applying pressure and making sure South Africa didn't leave anything to chance. 'We said we are going to play with two (number) 10s. We are going to play with one top man (striker), and we wanted to end the goal leaks so that we can unsettle them and open them up," said Khumalo. "If you look at the teams that we have been playing against, they sit back and then they catch us on set-plays and start a (counter-attack) situation. 'So, in this case, what we said was that let's have a quick goal, let's unsettle them, let's play the ball behind them, but let's draw them in because they were marking us tightly. "Once we managed to draw them in, we attacked with our lone striker. It has worked for us, and I'm happy that we scored the goals that we needed this time around.' With this victory, South Africa will face Angola, brimming with confidence from their performance against Comoros, as they set out to pursue the ultimate glory in front of their fans.
