A Confusing Update About ‘Ballard' Season 2 On Amazon Prime Video
Ballard is a hit. It's currently Amazon Prime Video's #1 show, even beating out the long-awaited return of The Summer I Turned Pretty, back for its final season.
The show currently sits at a very rare 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and you may think that auto-greenlights a season 2. Well, rather odd news on that front.
Star Maggie Q is saying that season 2 is moving forward without an actual renewal in a new interview with THR, even in an industry where shows are 'expendable':
'I have no sense (about renewal). This industry is not what it was before. It's barely recognizable to me, and shows are so expendable. They can throw out a show in two seconds, and it doesn't make a ton of difference that whole worlds and livelihoods are at stake. Studios always have options. But we have a writers room, and they've been writing away. The arc for the second season is very exciting. But I've had writers room hired before and then gotten canceled. So everyone's like, 'Maggie, of course!' I'm like, 'No, no, no.' There is no 'of course.' I am not a negative person at all. I'm a very positive person, but I'm a realist.'
So this is hedging bets a bit. There is already a writers room working season 2, but despite that investment of time and resources, it's still not a guarantee that a season 2 will happen. Amazon has not confirmed Ballard has been renewed for season 2, nor was it originally greenlit for a double-season run, as sometimes happens with shows streamers are confident about.

All this said, despite Maggie Q not wanting to get her hopes up, and this being a brutal industry at times in terms of surprise cancellations, I'm willing to go all-in that there is a 100% chance Ballard will be renewed for season 2.
1) It's stayed at #1 essentially since its release almost two weeks ago
2) It has perfect critic scores and solid enough audience scores.
3) It's a lower-budget crime series, and that's the kind of thing Amazon wants to see as they attempt to print more huge hits like Reacher.
All the pieces are there for a season 2 renewal, and it's just not unusual for a show to be two weeks in and still not renewed, even a hit. I don't think they wanted to fully gamble ahead of time with an instant greenlight, but Ballard and its star have nothing to worry about, mark my words.

If you want underrated Netflix shows, then watch these three programs (August 1-3)
While Netflix and TV mean the same thing for some people, that doesn't necessarily mean that finding something worth your time is all that easy. If you've ever found yourself scrolling through Netflix searching for just the right movie or show, then you know that the recommendations you get aren't necessarily always perfect. In light of the limitations of the algorithm, we've pulled together a list of three underrated shows that are all available on Netflix and all well worth your time. Take a look: Recommended Videos We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on HBO Max, and the best movies on Disney+. Outlander (2014-) Although this show debuted to critical acclaim and has maintained a devoted fandom throughout its long run on the air, Outlander is no longer as beloved or popular as it once was. The series is romantic high fantasy and follows a woman living in the 1950s as she's transported 200 years into the past. She finds herself torn between the husband she left behind and the new man she's falling for in the past. Breathtakingly romantic, Outlander is definitely a show about love and all of its many complications and dramas, but it's incredibly good at being that. You can watch Outlander on Netflix. Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp (2015) The 2001 film Wet Hot American Summer remains, in some ways, the ideal gonzo comedy of its era. Nothing in the movie makes much sense, and none of it really has to, in part because it features a cast filled with people who would go on to become major stars. First Day of Camp attempts to recapture the magic of that original film and succeeds to a larger extent than you might expect. Not every single joke lands, but as a vehicle for laughs, you could do a lot worse than this revival series, which managed to get even Paul Rudd to show up for a moment. You can watch Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp on Netflix. Chef's Table: BBQ (2020) A show that's guaranteed to make even the vegetarians amongst us hungry, Chef's Table: BBQ is a food travelogue that hones in on barbecue in all of its various forms and travels all around the world to sample them. While Netflix offers many excellent food documentaries, this season of Chef's Table uniquely enhances your appreciation for a type of cuisine that has been integral to most people's lives for years. Barbecue has plenty of long, beautiful traditions, and Chef's Table: BBQ shines a spotlight on all of them. You can watch Chef's Table: BBQ on Netflix.

Their First Date Was Delayed. Their Future Wasn't.
Corey Edwin Lockett was 30 minutes late to his first date with Vanessa Dalemark Berentsen at Dutch Fred's, a cocktail bar in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan. After a long day at work with the New York Giants, where he was a pro personnel intern at the time, he had driven in from Alpine, N.J., and hadn't anticipated just how difficult parking in Manhattan would be. 'I thought he was ghosting me,' Ms. Berentsen said. 'He kept texting me saying he was looking for parking, but I was confused. How is it taking this long?' It was July 28, 2018, just nine days after the two had matched on Tinder. With the National Football League preseason underway — one of the busiest times in football operations — Mr. Lockett wasn't interested in dating casually. 'A large portion of dating intentionally was due to my schedule,' he said, 'but also how comfortable that person would be with the hours that I work.' When he finally arrived, they greeted each other with a hug. 'I felt the connection right away,' Mr. Lockett said. Over cocktails and appetizers, they talked for more than three hours about family, music and the different cities and cultures that shaped them. Ms. Berentsen, who had moved to New York City from Edmonds, Wash., after spending her earliest years in Kristiansand, Norway, didn't have family nearby. Mr. Lockett, who had relocated from Warner Robins, Ga., understood. 'He grew up in a small town in Georgia, and I was born far away,' Ms. Berentsen said. 'I think that helped us understand each other immediately.' Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Love Endured the Lockdown — and a Canceled Wedding Venue
Keren Ashley Dillard's serious intentions — and sense of humor — came across loud and clear as soon as Tevin Taylor spotted her photo after they matched on Tinder. 'She had a spray can that said 'No Clowns',' said Mr. Taylor, who was amused. In June 2020, while working remotely as a software developer and living with his parents in Yonkers, N.Y., where he grew up, he decided to message her. 'He looked really sweet,' said Ms. Dillard, charmed by a photo of him standing in the snow in front of the American Museum of Natural History in New York in a 'slightly oversized' winter jacket. Ms. Dillard, 27, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in architecture from Barnard, like him, also grew up in Yonkers and lived with her parents 15 minutes away from him. Mr. Taylor, 29, graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in computer science from the State University of New York at Oswego, and now works remotely as a first-level software engineer at American Express. As they were messaging, she mentioned that when she wasn't busy applying to master's programs in architecture, she was either bingeing something on Netflix or closely following the Black Lives Matter protests.
