Broadband internet coming to Posey County

Yahoo18-03-2025

POSEY COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) — Soon internet will be a reality for nearly 240 people.
The Indiana Broadband Office was in Posey County on Monday night holding a listening and information session.
People gathered at the Hovey House to hear from the state on how internet will soon be available to those who are currently not serviced.
The state of Indiana was given nearly $870 million to do this through the Biden Administration's Broadband Equity Access and Development program.
The ultimate goal is to provide internet for all within 4 years of the award date of the money.
Eligible residents can go here, type in their address and view the interactive map.
The timeline is still unclear but Indiana Broadband says work should start this summer.

Old National Bank shooting case allowed to move forward

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT)- A Kentucky judge allows a lawsuit to go forward, which would hold several gun businesses responsible for the 2023 Old National Bank mass shooting that occurred in Louisville. Morganfield Job Corps Center confirmed to close June 30 Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Mitch Perry recently ruled that the case could continue, despite a federal law that gives gun manufacturers and dealers immunity from crimes committed with their products. The families of several shooting victims are suing a gun seller, distributor, and firearm accessories manufacturer in connection to the shooting in downtown Louisville. The lawsuit alleges that the gun dealer, River City Firearms, was negligent and failed to catch warning signs given by the shooter, Connor Sturgeon, before selling him an AR-15, which he would later use to kill five people at the branch. Distributor RSR Group and firearm accessory company Magpul are also part of the lawsuit. River City Firearms filed to have the case dismissed, saying the sales were lawful and done by the book. Gov. Beshear speaks at 'West Kentucky Film Commission' launch event

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WEHT) — On Wednesday, Governor Andy Beshear joined city leaders to officially launch the 'West Kentucky Film Commission.' What started as an email in Mayor Kevin Cotton's inbox, turned areas like Hopkins and Daviess counties into shooting locations for several movie productions. The email came from the organization's co-commissioners looking to expand the film commission further west. City leaders say this is the opportunity to bring Hollywood to Kentucky. Governor Beshear says this is not the first time this has been attempted and the previous iteration did not set the best examples. 'We had a period of time where it went away and we reset,' Governor Beshear said. 'Now we're booming and we've got to make sure that when we give out those incentives that we're getting more coming into Kentucky in that economic activity. The governor said this also serves as an opportunity for the state to come together in workforce development. 'It's generating 20,000 plus jobs at different times,' Governor Beshear said. 'And this is to make sure that Western Kentucky is a big part of it. Eyewitness News was shown an official trailer for 'A Christmas Pitch' which was shot in Madisonville as well as downtown Owensboro. City leaders say there is more to come with the film commission.
