WNBA isn't first sports league to have sex toys thrown at games

The same night, during the Indiana Fever-Los Angeles Sparks game at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, a sex toy landed on the court in the lane near Fever forward Sophie Cunningham, who earlier in the week went on social media to plead with fans not to throw things on the floor and posted another reaction after the game. Another sex toy was thrown at a New York Liberty game at Barclays Center.
The WNBA isn't the first sports league that has had to deal with sex toys being thrown on the field of play.
Here are some other unfortunate instances where that has happened:
Bills fans throw more than snowballs
Fans of the Buffalo Bills are an acquired taste. Known for their tailgating antics, the passionate fan base will let you know what they think of the opponent, especially the New England Patriots.
It started during a Week 8 contest in 2016, when the Patriots were driving for a score during their 41-25 win, a flesh colored sex toy landed at the 1-yard line, near the pylon.
"I did see it. Yes I did, I did see it," Tom Brady said after the game. "I thought it was funny the ref didn't want to pick it up. He was kicking it. Nobody wanted to reach down and grab it. ... That was very unusual. That was a first. Only in Buffalo. That was very unusual."
The fans repeated the behavior the next two years when the Patriots made their annual trip to Buffalo for the AFC East showdown and got a whole lot of visibility in 2018 during a nationally televised game.
Soccer follies
The Premier League got its on-pitch embarrassment in 2018 when a sex toy was thrown during a match between Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United at Amex Stadium.
Referee Kevin Friend tried to be discreet and removed the object, handing it over to another official. Unfortunately for Friend, a picture really does speak a thousand words.
Swedish hockey fans make it rain
In 2008, a Swedish ice hockey game was delayed after fans pelted the ice with sex toys.
Apparently, sex toys were not on the restricted list of items you can bring into an arena in Sweden, so fans of AIK Hockey came prepared to show their arm strength when visiting Leksand came to town. In fact, team officials knew about the impending stunt but decided it was best not to intervene, as it was more trouble than it was worth to stop it.
Before the game even started, arena staff had to clear the ice, and fans did it to make fun of Leksand defender Jan Huokko, who, a year earlier, had a sex tape he made with his girlfriend hit the internet after his cell phone was stolen.
Fans went all out with vulgar signs about Huokko, complete with a giant inflatable penis that made its way across the crowd.

But Lee Kang-in pulled a goal back in the 85th minute before PSG substitute Goncalo Ramos headed home in the fourth minute of added time to secure a 2-2 draw and force spot-kicks. Tottenham were handed the initiative when Vitinha missed the Champions League holders' first penalty, only for Van de Ven and Mathys Tel to fail from 12 yards as PSG triumphed 3-2 in the shoot-out to claim the silverware. Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, the 27-year-old said: 'People say that we've been in a transition for years but to be in a transition you have to start a transition. No plans for Premier League match abroad – Masters Premier League chief executive officer Richard Masters (Nick Potts/PA) Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said there are no plans to play a top-flight match abroad. Italy's Serie A and Spain's LaLiga have unveiled plans to stage league fixtures in Australia and the United States respectively as those competitions seek greater worldwide exposure. Masters believes the Premier League has gone global by other means since the idea of a 39th match round abroad was first floated in 2008. 'There are billions of people who will be tuning in over the course of the next the next nine months to watch Premier League action, so we've achieved that objective by different means, that necessity has dissipated,' he said. Arsenal transfer news: Mikel Arteta faces £68m deal deadline as Gunners boss takes new role

Mikel Arteta has strengthened his Arsenal squad over the summer but last season's Premier League runners-up could have a bit more business to come between now and September 1 Arsenal have been one of the busiest Premier League teams this summer but their spending might not be over just yet. The Gunners have an A to Z of new signings - Arrizabalaga to Zubimendi, to be precise - but there will still be two weeks of the window to go after they begin their Premier League campaign against Manchester United on Sunday. The goal is to sign a player capable ot creating from deep and playing off the left of the front three in certain circumstances. More specifically, the goal is Ebere Eze, but things might not be straightforward. Manager Mikel Arteta indicated the spending isn't over if the right opportunity arrives. However, in order to meet Crystal Palace's asking price for Eze, they might need to raise funds through sales. Nuno Tavares and Marquinhos have both left, while Thomas Partey's release has freed up significant wage budget. Fabio Vieira, Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior could yet follow. There are two deadlines in place for Arsenal, though - not just September 1, when the window shuts. Here are Mirror Football 's latest lines from North London. Eze release clause deadline Arsenal only have until Friday to meet Ebere Eze's release clause at Crystal Palace. A bid of £68m would be enough to land the England star now, though Palace may yet accept a similar amount after the deadline. Moves for Fabio Vieira and Leandro Trossard are the most realistic sources of the funds for a move. Stuttgart want Vieira, with a fee of around £16m mooted, while Trossard has previously attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League. Funds could also be raised from other sources, with interest in Jakub Kiwior, Karl Hein and Oleksandr Zinchenko. The Gunners are also open to offloading Reiss Nelson, though no club has met their asking price. Arteta takes off-field role Mikel Arteta will be back in the dugout on Sunday as Arsenal kick off their league campaign. Before that, though, the Spaniard has been confirmed as brand ambassador and director of performance with sports brand Under Armour. 'The collaboration with Under Armour is the perfect opportunity for me to work with a partner committed to making young athletes better," Arteta said in a statement. 'I'm passionate about providing a platform for the next generation of players coming through in football and the top level of talent already signed with the brand demonstrates that Under Armour is too. 'We share the same mentality in always striving for more by finding new ways to innovate and disrupt the game at the top level. Our values in pursuing greatness are closely aligned and together, I'm confident we're going to achieve great things in football.' Eze told to turn down Arsenal Ebere Eze is understood to favour a move to Arsenal over joining rivals Spurs. However, former Gunners star Theo Walcott isn't convinced the move would be the right one for him. "I think the big question or the big thing we've got to look at is that it is World Cup year," Walcott said on It's Called Soccer. "As a player, if it's a World Cup year, I'm thinking, 'I'm going to play consistently for Palace this year, so if I'm Eze, for instance, my thought process: obviously Arsenal is a different kind of pressure." He suggested Eze would have different responsibilities if he moves, adding: "The good thing thing about Eze's situation is that he can play every week and he has that maverick style that he accepts making and taking those risks. I think he's a player that can take those risks at Palace. I don't think he will get that at Arsenal."

Lee Grant ‘proud as punch' as Huddersfield's young guns help to sink Leicester

Hamza Choudhury and Harry Winks' strikes for the Foxes were cancelled out in a contest which finished 2-2 after 90 minutes, before Terriers goalkeeper Lee Nicholls was the hero in a shoot-out which the League One side won 3-2. Grant, whose team will travel to Premier League Sunderland later this month in the second round, said: 'It's wonderful for me to have young players with bright eyes who are ready to go and get after it. I'm proud as punch. 'We're asking the players to trust what's put in front of them and to trust and believe in themselves. 'What they have as principles will give them an opportunity to beat a really good team, even against a really good team.' Leicester boss Marti Cifuentes said: 'The feeling is disappointment because we came here to try to go through and didn't manage it. 'I'm not happy with the performance. Huddersfield did a really good job and congratulations to them, they really showed a lot of energy and desire. 'When you play a team in the division below you, they have a mental edge because they have nothing to lose. 'We started the game poorly and needed to be more aggressive in attack. To go ahead twice and then concede, we should have done better with that. After taking the lead you need to be more dominant than ever.'
