Sporting Lisbon boss breaks silence on Viktor Gyokeres' future - with the Man United target 'furious over the Portuguese club's U-turn on his £84m release clause'
Sporting Lisbon boss Rui Borges refused to give too much away when asked about Viktor Gyokeres' future on Tuesday. Gyokeres, 27, has been heavily linked with Manchester United in recent days, with the Red Devils moving ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea in the race for his signature. The Swedish striker appeared to bid farewell to Sporting's fans after completing a domestic double with the club last month, but he remains with the Portuguese outfit for now. Borges attended an event on Tuesday to mark the 99th anniversary of provincial team Sport Clube de Mirandela - the club where his football journey began - and was quizzed on Gyokeres, but remained tight-lipped. 'Gyokeres? Sporting's future begins on July 1st,' Borges told reporters. 'That's all I can say and today I'm here to, above all, salute this tribute that was paid to me. That's all. I'm on vacation, I'm not here to talk about that.' Borges is not interested in talking about the future of Gyokeres for now, but the player himself is reportedly furious over how Sporting are handling his potential exit. Gyokeres has a €100m (£84m) release clause in his Sporting contract, but he is understood to have reached a gentleman's agreement with the club at the start of the season over a reduced asking price. The forward was promised that he could leave Sporting this summer for €60m (£51m), plus €10m (£8m) in add-ons, to take the overall transfer fee down to £59m. However, according to Portuguese outlet Record, Sporting's board are now seeking in the region of €80m (£67m) before allowing Gyokeres to move on. He is believed to be livid with Sporting's U-turn and feels they have failed to deliver on their promise to him. Gyokeres has responded by removing any reference to Sporting on his Instagram account, having also got rid of any mention of Sweden and Nike. United failed to get a deal over the line in the 'special' transfer window that shut on Tuesday evening, but they could return for Gyokeres when the window re-opens on later this month.

Arsenal encounter fresh problem in Benjamin Sesko pursuit with RB Leipzig holding firm
Leipzig are currently holding firm on receiving the full release clause for Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko, a figure which is now understood to exceed £65m. Mikel Arteta has long-standing interest in the 21-year-old, having been pursuing him for well over a year, and has emerged as the top target this summer. Sesko wants to go to Arsenal and is energised by the prospect, with personal terms seen as no issue. The primary issue right now is between the clubs. With some Leipzig contract terms having been activated over this season, Sesko's release clause has risen. The German club are currently determined to get full value, although that is offset by buying clubs being aware they are under greater pressure to sell than usual, due to a failure to qualify for the Champions League. There has only been initial contact between the two clubs so far, but that is partly a stand-off over the price. Arsenal naturally have a list of other options, although the situation has moved on from the Sesko v Viktor Gyokeres choice that had started the summer. There is still an interest in Gyokeres, but a lot of major clubs feel he is overpriced, having only really scored goals in Portugal for Sporting at the age of 26. Manchester United currently have the most concerted interest. The Independent reported on Friday that Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins has been raised again, and there is interest in Goncalo Ramos, albeit an unwillingness to match his Paris Saint-Germain wages. There is meanwhile no concern about the signing of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, despite loud noise from Real Madrid. Arsenal have the majority of terms fully agreed. Only final details have to be sorted with the Basque club, who they have good relations with. There is still interest in Rodrygo for their winger target, but the Brazilian does not want to leave Real Madrid before the Club World Cup. In addition to this, Arsenal want to make sales before fully committing to that position.

Leroy Sane's thoughts on Arsenal move emerge amid Bayern Munich contract dispute
Arsenal are among those linked with Leroy Sane, who is keen on a move to north London with his Bayern Munich contract winding down as talks fail to lead to an extension Leroy Sane is 'very interested' in moving to Arsenal as the Bayern Munich star prepares to become a free agent this summer with his contract saga still rumbling on. The German has been at the Allianz Arena ever since he left Manchester City for just over £50million back in 2020. He's remained a regular but has been unable to iron his out his future in Bavaria which could leave him on the lookout for a new club. Arsenal are among those linked with the winger, who was a big hit during his time in the Premier League. He won several titles and, on a personal level, was named the PFA Young Player of the Year back in 2018. Throughout his time in Manchester Mikel Arteta was Pep Guardiola's No 2 and worked closely with the German. A reunion could now be on the cards as Arsenal look to bolster their forward line with a winger on their radar over the coming months. Sane is also aware of interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, who are both ready to make lucrative offers to tempt him to Istanbul. German outlet Bild claim that Sane is yet to make a final decision on his future despite the fact he is set to become a free agent on July 1. But a move to London is 'appealing' to him and his wife Candice, which could put the Gunners in pole position to sign him. Sane's other options include a move to Saudi Arabia or Serie A champions Napoli but it is understood those are not overly tempting for the player. Bayern bosses are keen to keep hold of their player and have already offered him a new three-year contract, but on reduced terms. Sane rejected the offer as he is unwilling to take a pay-cut which has seen rival clubs circle. Sane has scored over 60 times throughout his time on Bayern's books - hitting double figures every season - and could add another dynamic with pace one of his great assets. He previously scored against Arsenal in his City days. Arsenal's priority this summer is on adding a new No 9 and they've made Benjamin Sesko their preferred target. They want to sign the Slovenian, who has continued his progression at RB Leipzig with the German club often selling their top talent for the right fee.
