Stray dogs kill 30 govt-subsidised chickens in Annur village; farmer blames meat waste dumping
The aggrieved farmer, EM Thangamuthu, of Kallan Chetti Thottam at Ellapalayam village, demanded the authorities to prevent dumping of chicken waste on roadsides in the area to curb the threat posed by dogs. Thangamuthu is so upset that he said he will not seek any compensation for the lost chickens.
Ellapalayam village comes under the Kattampatti Pachayat.
"Around 40 chicken stalls are functioning in Ganesapuram in Kariampalayam area. Every day, the shops dump the waste on the roadside. After eating the meat waste, stray dogs turn violent," he said.
Thangamuthu was provided 40 chicks in May by the Tamil Nadu Animal Husbandry department.
Six stray dogs entered his farmland in the wee hours of Saturday and killed 30 out of 40 chickens on the spot in a span of 10 minute. "I was not in the house around 3 am. When my wife came out, she found the stray dogs were mauling the chicken. I had reared them for the last three months. I had planned to develop poultry farming. Now, the plan has been dashed. I have lost chickens worth over Rs 20,000," said Thangamuthu.
Stray dog bites had killed four goats of another person, Thangavel of Chinnaputhur near Kariampalayam, two weeks ago. Villagers have appealed to the district administration to hold a consultation meeting with the owners of the chicken stalls and advise them proper disposal of meat waste.

BSF arrests two smugglers with gold worth over Rs 1 crore hidden in slippers
Troops of the Border Security Force (BSF), 11th Battalion of the South Bengal Frontier, foiled a major smuggling attempt and arrested two Indian nationals carrying illegal gold worth over Rs 1.05 crore near the India-Bangladesh international border in West on specific and credible intelligence, BSF jawans deployed at Border Outpost (BOP) Vijaymath in Nadia district formed a special team on August 4 to intercept the smugglers, who were reportedly travelling by bus from Karimpur to approximately 10 am, the BSF team spotted the suspected bus in the Mahisbathan area. After confirming the bus number matched the intelligence inputs, troops swiftly intercepted the vehicle and detained two individuals based on prior identification. Upon thorough search, jawans recovered seven gold pieces weighing a total of 1030.720 grams, ingeniously concealed inside the slippers worn by the suspects. Additionally, two mobile phones were also seized. The estimated market value of the seized gold is Rs 1,05,75, smugglers, identified as residents of Murshidabad district and employed as labourers, were taken into custody and brought to BOP Vijaymath for further questioning. During preliminary interrogation, they revealed that the gold had been handed over to them in Jalangi and was intended to be delivered to an individual at the Krishnanagar bus stand. NGO, police rescue baby sold to family near Coimbatore
C OIMBATORE: A Coimbatore-based NGO and the city police on Tuesday rescued an 11-day-old baby girl who was sold to a family at Athupalayam near Somanur for Rs 50,000 by her parents. The baby girl was handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), and Coimbatore city police have arrested a woman in connection with the case. Police sources said that Vijayashanthi, 32, wife of Prakash of West Street at Pallapalayam near Mangalam in Tirupur district, had given birth to a baby girl in Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) eleven days ago. She already had three daughters and felt that she could not take care of the fourth baby girl. So, she decided to sell her. The mother approached Sindhu, 32, wife of Karthi of Anna Nagar at Pallapalayam near Mangalam in Tirupur district and asked her to sell the baby. Sindhu received the baby from her mother on Monday and took her to her friend K Janani's residence at Athupalayam in Coimbatore district. Around 10am on Tuesday, the Childline (1098) received a phone call from a villager about a baby being sold. Volunteers of First Heart Foundation Network, an NGO, rushed to Athupalayam along with the Coimbatore city police on Tuesday morning. With the assistance of the police, the child was rescued and later produced before the CWC. The Race Course police registered an FIR and arrested Sindhu. The police issued a summons to the baby's mother.

Five booked for setting up rival firm in Mumbai to cheat clients
Mumbai: The Azad Maidan police have registered a FIR against five former employees of R K Swamy on charges of criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust and cheating the company. The FIR registered by Radesh Rammana, general manager (finance) , R K Swamy, has accused its former employees of setting up businesses having similarity with R K Swamy's business to mislead and cheat its clients. Those named in the FIR are Vishwamohan Ravindra, Sunil Pandey, Pooja Rohela, Rishi Chauhan and Vishnu Shinde. The FIR alleged that the accused conspired with each other and left the company in a phased manner and later formed companies and cheated them. In one of the instances cited, Pandey and Vishwamohan formed CME Academy LLP similar to Swamy's division CMEFI and carried out transactions worth Rs 1.82 cr with a pharmaceutical company. The duo misled the pharma company saying CME Academy LLP was a new division of R K Swamy.
