PeterLabs seeks court order to halt EGM aimed at board shake-up

KUALA LUMPUR: PeterLabs Holdings Bhd has filed a lawsuit against its non-independent non-executive director Datin Lin Ching Yein and substantial shareholder Bu Yaw Seng, amid an intensifying boardroom tussle.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the company said the legal action is intended to block their bid to call for an extraordinary general meeting (EGM), which seeks to remove existing board members and appoint new ones.
PeterLabs said it has commenced legal proceedings in the Seremban High Court to declare the May 15 requisition notice invalid, arguing that it is not in the best interest of the company.
It has also filed for an interlocutory injunction to restrain Bu and Lin from convening or conducting the proposed EGM, pending a final court ruling.
The requisition was submitted under the Companies Act 2016, accompanied by special resolutions to alter the composition of the board.
The group said its board, after obtaining legal advice, resolved not to convene the EGM, stating the proposed resolutions were not aligned with the interests of the company or its stakeholders.
Yesterday, PeterLabs announced that the group and its subsidiary Thye On Tong Trading Sdn Bhd had initiated legal proceedings against Lin and suspended executive director Datuk Loh Saw Foong.
This follows earlier disclosures made on May 13 and May 26, 2025, regarding Loh's suspension over alleged breaches of fiduciary duty. The group is seeking various declaratory reliefs and damages as part of the legal action.

Foreign Investors Extend Selling Streak To 6 Weeks, Net Outflow Eases RM566 Million

Foreign investors continued to pare down their holdings on Bursa Malaysia for the sixth consecutive week, recording a net outflow of RM566.1 million for the week ended Friday. The figure, however, marked a sharp 50% reduction from the prior week's RM1.14 billion outflow. According to Kenanga, foreign investors were net sellers on all five trading days, with daily outflows ranging from RM94 million to RM167.4 million. The heaviest selling was seen on Friday, followed by Thursday (–RM103.5m), Tuesday (–RM101.5m), and Monday (–RM99.8m). Wednesday posted the smallest withdrawal. By sector, foreign investors channelled funds into Plantations (RM77.7m), Property (RM52.7m), and Financial Services (RM42.2m). Meanwhile, the sectors facing the largest net foreign outflows were Utilities (–RM209.5m), Telecommunication & Media (–RM185.5m), and Healthcare (–RM152.7m). On the domestic front, local institutions extended their net buying streak to a third week, with inflows of RM760.5m, helping cushion the foreign sell-off. In contrast, local retailers turned net sellers, reversing five straight weeks of buying, with a net outflow of RM194.4m. Trading activity was broadly higher across the board, except for local retailers. Average daily trading volume (ADTV) rose +8.9% for local institutions and +1.5% for foreign investors, but slipped –3% for retailers. Market watchers say foreign flows will likely remain sensitive to global risk sentiment, with upcoming US economic data and geopolitical developments expected to guide trading direction
