Ex-Yankees Prospect Making Team Regret Trading Him For Failed Reliever

The New York Yankees traded for Devin Williams this offseason, and the move has turned out worse than anyone could have imagined. Williams was a two-time All-Star with the Milwaukee Brewers. He is also a two-time Trevor Hoffman National League Reliever of the Year Award winner. However, with the Yankees, he has a 5.32 ERA and has been removed from the closer's role. Not only is he no longer the closer, but he is not even being trusted in leverage situations. He will be a free agent after the year, and likely will be playing elsewhere. However, to make matters worse, one of the players traded away is a key player on the best team in baseball right now. ATLANTA, GEORGIA - AUGUST 6: Caleb Durbin #21 of the Milwaukee Brewers smiles during batting practice before the game against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park on August 6, 2025 in Atlanta, Yankees gave up Caleb Durbin and Nestor Cortes to get Williams. The Brewers flipped Cortes at the trade deadline, but Durbin has become a starter. He has started 86 of the 97 games he has played in after being called up. Durbin is slashing .255/.334/.377 while playing solid defense at third base. Meanwhile, third base for the Yankees has been a real problem. The team traded for Ryan McMahon, but he has not been great. Jazz Chisholm Jr., Oswaldo Cabrera, Oswald Peraza, Jorbit Vivas, Pablo Reyes, José Caballero and J.C. Escarra have also tried to fill the void at third base. Durbin would have been an upgrade for the Yankees. Instead, the Yankees are watching Williams play his way out of the Bronx. Durbin has been solid all season, but recently his offense has surged. In his last 44 games, he has slashed .302/.365/.446 with four home runs and 17 RBIs. The Brewers have the best record in the big leagues, and Durbin is a huge reason why. He has multiple years of club control and could have been a star for the Yankees. He is in the 98th percentile for strikeout percentage and 94th percentile for whiff percentage, per Baseball Savant. He is tough to strike out and can also impact the game with his speed. Right now, it clearly looks like the Brewers won the trade where they gave up an All-Star closer. More MLB: Cubs' Kyle Tucker Has 5-Word Response to Benching After Replacement Shines

Dan Orlovsky says Rams should trade mid-round pick for this downtrodden QB

The Los Angeles Rams don't really have a quarterback problem entering 2025. Yes, Matthew Stafford is hurt and old. But Jimmy Garoppolo is a more than capable backup who can start if needed. Even Stetson Bennett looked good in preseason and might be able to suit up under center. The Rams' biggest concern is the future of the position. Stafford will be 38 in 2026, Garoppolo will need a new deal next year and isn't a great long-term option, and Bennett is still a big question mark. The Rams could use one of their two first-rounders to snag a quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft, but that's months away. Instead, ESPN and ex-NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky thinks the Rams should trade a mid-round pick for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson. This would be a low-risk, high-reward move for L.A. Richardson will never be a cheaper asset after the Colts named Daniel Jones as their Week 1 starting quarterback and he could use a change of scenery. He's still a raw player, but that means he's still moldable in the Sean McVay offense. He would also never be expected to play in 2025. It's Stafford's or Garoppolo's team this year. Richardson offers a big arm and dual-threat ability that the Rams have never had at quarterback under Sean McVay. He's rushed 111 times for 635 yards and 10 touchdowns in 15 games. The passing, though, is the issue: Richardson's 50.6% completion rate is awful and he has a 3.7% interception rate over his two NFL seasons. McVay might not be able to fix Richardson, but it would be a cheap look for a potential franchise quarterback who could replace Stafford as early as 2026. And if it worked out, the Rams could use their first-round picks on other positions of need.

Brewers Skipper Sends Kyle Tucker Message After Cubs Slugger Hits New Low

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The Chicago Cubs made a surprising move with their superstar slugger after he reached a career low, and it has garnered a strong reaction from the leader of their hated rival. After acquiring outfielder Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros via trade for his contract season, the Cubs opted to give the slugger a mental reset after a hot start devolved into a career-worst slump at the plate. After earning his fourth consecutive All-Star bid earlier this year, Tucker was slashing just .184/.333/.211 with no home runs across 28 days before being benched. "The situation has turned ugly, with Tucker getting booed at Wrigley Field for not producing and not running to first base," Patrick Mooney wrote for The Athletic. "His numbers since the beginning of July are disappointing and conspicuous, especially given the current gap in the National League Central between the Cubs and (Milwaukee) Brewers." As the Cubs continue a series against the division rival Brewers without Tucker, Milwaukee's skipper Pat Murphy spoke out about the reset, claiming there is more going on than the Cubs are letting on. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images) More Cox/Getty "I think Tucker is hurt," Murphy said during an appearance on WSCR-AM 670 The Score Chicago. "I don't have any information, but Tucker's not the same. He's hurt, and he's playing through it. He's such a class kid that he probably doesn't mention it to anyone." Cubs fans might have mixed feelings to hear that their star player could be dealing with an injury, rather than merely a mental slump. On the one hand, a physical issue might be more directly addressed. On the other, it could mean Tucker takes longer to recover and return to the lineup. Either way, it seems like the Cubs will need their star outfielder back sooner rather than later if they are going to have a chance of challenging the Brewers for the division. Whether it's a mental or physical problem, the team is hoping Tucker can recover quickly and get back to his All-Star form at the plate.
