Seahawks general manager John Schneider gets contract extension through 2031
Schneider is the longest-tenured GM in franchise history, having held the job since 2010. The Seahawks did not disclose terms of the deal.
'The extension of general manager John Schneider's contract is a testament to his 15-plus years of football leadership and success,' Seahawks owner Jody Allen said in a statement. 'I am confident that John will continue to deliver real results and a continued strong partnership with head coach Mike Macdonald that is already contributing to our winning culture on and off the field.'
The 54-year-old Schneider first joined the Seahawks in 2000 as director of player personnel, and then returned to the franchise in 2010 as GM and executive vice president. Seattle made the playoffs in Schneider's first season and won the Super Bowl in his fourth.
During Schneider's time as GM, the Seahawks have compiled the sixth-best record in the NFL at 147-96-1 and have won 10 or more games in nine of the past 13 seasons. Seattle has made the playoffs 10 times in 15 seasons and has won five NFC West titles and two conference championships under Schneider.

Trump last week reestablished the Presidential Fitness Test for American children, a fixture of public schools for decades that gauged young people's health and athleticism with 1-mile runs, sit-ups and stretching exercises. 'This is a wonderful tradition, and we're bringing it back,' Trump said of the fitness test that began in 1966 but was phased out during the Obama administration. The executive order also reinvigorated the national sports council that could have included Barkley. Barkley won AP Offensive Player of the Year last season after rushing for 2,005 yards, eighth-best in NFL history, in his first season with the Eagles. Switzerland's president rushes to Washington in effort to avert steep US tariffs
GENEVA (AP) — Switzerland's president and other top officials were traveling to Washington on Tuesday in a hastily arranged trip aimed at striking a deal with the Trump administration over steep tariffs that have cast a pall over Swiss industries like chocolates and watchmaking. President Karin Keller-Sutter was leading a delegation to the United States capital after last week's announcement that exports of Swiss goods to the U.S. will face a whopping 39% percent tariff starting Thursday. That is over 2 1/2 times higher than the rate on European Union goods exported to the U.S. and nearly four times higher than on British exports to the U.S. Many Swiss companies in industries including watchmaking and chocolates have expressed concern about the issue. The Swiss government said the trip was 'to facilitate meetings with the U.S. authorities at short notice and hold talks with a view to improving the tariff situation for Switzerland.' Barcelona opens disciplinary proceeding against Ter Stegen for refusing to sign a medical report
MADRID (AP) — Barcelona has opened a disciplinary proceeding against Marc-André ter Stegen saying the goalkeeper refused to sign a medical report about his back injury, according to a person with knowledge of the proceeding. The person who spoke to the The Associated Press on Tuesday did not want to be named because they were not authorized to speak about it publicly. The club needed Ter Stegen to sign the report so it could be sent to the Spanish league in order to clear some salary-cap space and more easily register other players without breaching financial fair play rules. But the club and the goalkeeper are at odds about the recovery time for the surgery that took place last week to deal with recurring lower back ailments. Ter Stegen said ahead of the surgery that the recovery time would be about three months. The club did not give an official timetable for the recovery process, saying only that the operation was 'successful' and that 'his recovery will determine when he can return.' Depending on the length of the recovery process, Barcelona could clear a percentage of Ter Stegen's salary from its cap, making more room to add other players to the squad. The club signed Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García in June. Its other goalkeepers are veteran Wojciech Szczęsny and Iñaki Peña. The league has to evaluate the report before approving the official time of recovery. Ter Stegen, one of the team's captains, did not immediately speak publicly after Barcelona said it opened the disciplinary proceeding.
