Shopkeeper assaulted on claims that he was selling ‘cow meat' near Delhi University's North Campus
A mob assaulted a 44-year-old shopkeeper near Delhi University's North Campus on Wednesday, claiming that he was selling cow meat, The Indian Express quoted the police as stating.
The police said they had received a complaint from a 15-year-old boy about cow meat being allegedly sold at a grocery shop located in Vijay Nagar in the Model Town area.
The boy said in the complaint that he had purchased meat from the shop, called 'North East Store' and owned by 44-year-old Chaman Kumar, who is a resident of North Delhi's Burari.
'Upon suspicion of cow meat being sold, some members of the public manhandled the shopkeeper,' the police stated. 'He has been provided medical assistance and his medical examination is currently underway.'
The police also said that ' meat samples have been seized and sent for forensic analysis to determine whether it is cow meat', according to Hindustan Times.
In videos of the purported incident circulating on social media, the mob can be heard shouting, 'those who kill cows should be shot'.
The Students' Federation of India, the student wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), claimed in a video that the mob that had attacked the shopkeeper, who is from the North East, was also threatening to raid the homes of students from minority communities.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Northwest Bhisham Singh later said the situation was brought under control. 'Once the forensic report and full enquiry are complete, appropriate legal action will be taken as per the findings and provisions of law,' Singh was quoted as saying by

However, things took a dark turn when Singh started harassing his friend, even demanding that she stop talking to other boys. Despite warnings to stay away from her, he continued to stalk her and even followed her to Korean classes. "They were only friends," alleged Mridula. According to police, Singh claimed to be in a relationship with Jain from last July but began suspecting that she was communicating with other boys, which led to a breakdown between them. "He created a fake social media account under a boy's name to see if she would chat with him," an officer revealed. Lately, he grew more suspicious after seeing calls on her phone and began believing she was seeing someone else. 2 held for murder of youth who objected to their drunk ruckus
After a youth was allegedly beaten to death for opposing a group of drunkards who were creating a public nuisance on Sunday night, there has been tension in the Bakultala area of Jaynagar in South 24 Parganas district. 14-year-old boy given electric shock over ‘stealing cellphone', 1 held
A 14-year-old boy was allegedly tortured at a jeans dyeing factory in Maheshtala, South 24 Parganas, near Kolkata, on suspicion of stealing the factory owner's mobile phone, police officials said. The boy who works as a worker at the factory was allegedly hung upside down, beaten, and given electric shocks by the factory owner, Shahenshah, officials further said. A purported viral video of the incident led to police intervention, and the boy was rescued with serious injuries. 'An individual known to the main accused has been arrested and an investigation is ongoing,' an official said. The boy's family claims that he was falsely accused and they have filed a complaint.
