Rusting Porsche left 60 years in a barn now tipped to sell for £400,000
A rusting Porsche that has been left in a barn for over 60 years is now tipped to sell for a whopping £400,000. The Porsche 356 Speedster was bought in 1955 and after clocking up 62,000 miles in seven years was taken off the road and tucked in a barn in Ohio, America. The classic car was rediscovered after a car expert was given a 'tip off' and it was found with all its silver paintwork peeled off. It has since undergone an extensive restoration - the engine and gearbox have been stripped out and rebuilt and all the carpets and seat coverings were replaced with aged leather. But the left-hand drive Porsche retains its original dashboard, steering wheel and gauges. The car, which is now roadworthy and has been driven recently, has been shipped over to England to be sold in Iconic Auctioneers' forthcoming Silverstone sale. An Iconic Auctioneers spokesperson said: 'Following a tip-off, this early 356 Speedster was uncovered at a smallholding in Ohio, where it had reportedly remained with the same family for over 70 years. 'The engine was disassembled and remarkably, only required new piston rings before being fully inspected and reassembled. 'The matching gearbox was similarly stripped, checked and rebuilt, while the fuel system was recommissioned, retaining the original fuel tank with its attractive patination. 'Externally, every effort was made to preserve the integrity of the original early 356 body. 'It is understood that the Speedster was in regular use only until 1962, covering approximately 60,000 miles before being laid to rest in the barn where it was later discovered. 'At some point early in its life, possibly by the supplying dealership, it was repainted silver, traces of which remain visible on the bodywork today. 'We are informed that the Speedster performs exceptionally well, idling smoothly with no smoke and having completed various trips without issue. 'This is a rare opportunity to acquire an exceptionally well preserved Pre-A 356 Speedster, a model highly regarded for its purity and iconic design. 'From the few Pre-A Speedsters that do make it to market, it is very rare to see a survivor car as many are now restored.' The sale takes place on August 23.

US retailer Best Buy weighs boosting India headcount, Subramanian says (Aug 8)
CHENNAI, Aug 8 (Reuters) - U.S. retailer Best Buy (BBY.N), opens new tab is weighing the expansion of its India headcount to primarily add more digital and technology roles, Nithya Subramanian, senior director, data & AI COE, told Reuters. Best Buy employs around 350 people at its global capability centre in Bengaluru, better known as "India's Silicon Valley". That headcount could grow to approximately 500 over the next few months, Subramanian said on the sidelines of an event in Chennai. Many global companies have been setting up offices or boosting their presence in India to tap its growing talent pool. GCCs have been evolving into high-value innovation hubs from low-cost back offices in recent years. They now support their parent firms in vital functions including operations, finance, and research and development. "We will be hiring across the functions," Subramanian said. Best Buy, known for selling electronic items such as laptops, kitchen appliances and cameras, is looking to hire AI engineers, software engineers and product managers in India, according to its LinkedIn page. "Even if you look at the global strength, I think we are growing leaps and bounds in India," Subramanian said, noting that the Bengaluru office is Best Buy's largest tech hub. Best Buy operates more than 1,000 stores in the United States and Canada, where it employs over 85,000 people. It does not have retail operations in India. Another U.S. retailer, Costco Wholesale (COST.O), opens new tab, is gearing up to open its first India GCC, sources told Reuters last month. India's GCC market is expected to reach between $99 billion and $105 billion by 2030, from $64.6 billion in fiscal 2024, a report by industry body Nasscom and consulting firm Zinnov said.

‘The Cadillac, the shadow, the LA sky – it was all laid out for me': Phil Stockbridge's best phone picture
His usual way of taking photos, Phil Stockbridge says, is like an angler waiting for a fish. The LA-based photographer had been working on a commercial shoot on the day he landed this image. 'When I find something interesting to shoot, the main thing that starts to churn in my brain is light and composition. A lot of the time the subject's missing and I'll sit and wait like a fisherman for the right person or car to make the image. Luckily, for this scene, it was all laid out for me.' Stockbridge believes this to be a Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, and notes how he was drawn by 'the shadow of a parking sign, the street lamp in the distance, the LA sky, a slouched fence and the edge of the sidewalk. A Long Beach day turning into a Long Beach night is on full display here. The traffic's dying down, it's getting quieter, cooler. The sun has set and all that's left of it remains in the dark blue sky.' Stockbridge took the image on his phone, later applying edits using VSCO and Lightroom. 'I hope someone seeing this feels a calm washing over them,' he says, 'but I never take photos with the intention of making the viewer feel something. That stuff finds its way afterwards.'
