Bengaluru: The Karnataka government's Drug Testing Laboratory declared 14 drugs manufactured by 14 different companies as 'substandard' on Wednesday. The state's Food Safety and Drug Administration department has directed chemists, wholesalers, doctors, hospitals, and nursing homes not to stock, sell, or use these drugs and cosmetics, an official statement said.
'In case they hold any stock, they are requested to inform the concerned area Drugs Inspector or Assistant Drugs Controller. The public is also advised not to use these drugs or cosmetics,' the statement added. The substandard drugs include compound sodium lactate injection IP (Ringer-Lactate solution for injection) manufactured by Ultra Laboratories (batch no: KI124110) and Tam Bran Pharmaceuticals; Pomol-650 (Paracetamol tablets I P 650 mg) by Aban Pharmaceuticals (batch no: 13-4536) and MITO Q7 Syrup by Bion Therapeutics India (batch no: CHS-40170) among others. The department has urged strict compliance with these directions to safeguard public health.

Paracetamol brand Pomol-650 (paracetamol tablets IP 650 mg) and O Shanti Gold Class Kumkum manufactured in Mysuru are among the 15 medicines found unfit for use, said a circular from the state food safety and drug administration. According to the circular, food safety and drug control under the health department had collected samples of different pharmaceutical and cosmetic products in May. Upon testing, 15 products were found unfit for use, and a warning has been issued to stakeholders. The official statement said the chemists, wholesalers, doctors, hospitals, and nursing homes should not stock, sell, or use these drugs and cosmetics. Earlier, the state government's drug testing laboratory declared these drugs manufactured by different companies as 'substandard". The list includes a range of injectable solutions, syrups, tablets, and even a veterinary vaccine Other banned items include Compound Sodium Lactate Injection IP produced by Ultra Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. and Tom Bron Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., Mitu Q7 Syrup by Bion Therapeutics, Pantocot-DSR capsules by Svefn Pharmaceuticals, and Sodium Chloride Injection IP 0.9% w/v by Puniska Injectables Pvt. products such as sterile diluents for poultry vaccines by Safe Parenterals Pvt. Ltd., and various other formulations like Glimiz-2 (glimepiride tablets), Iron Sucrose Injection (Irogain), and Pyracid-O Suspension were also listed as unfit for have directed that these products should neither be used nor distributed until further instructions are issued.
