Rand Water's Makenosi Maroo said leaking pipes are being replaced.
"We're going to finish on Mandela Day. We're also cleaning the Hartbeespoort Reservoir. The 18th is the last day for maintenance," she said.

Power outage sparks tension over tree removal in East Town
Residents of East Town have been left without power since August 8, following damage caused by a large tree that has become a point of contention between City Power and City Parks. Each entity is blaming the other for the ongoing issue, while frustrated residents bear the brunt of the situation, said Ward 88 councillor Nicolene Jonker. A City Power contractor confirmed that the tree had grown so large that its roots had damaged an underground medium voltage cable, leading to the prolonged power outage. Nadim Hassan, a resident of Waterval, praised Jonker for her efforts in addressing the situation, but lamented the challenges faced by residents. 'It's sad that we, as residents, have to come to a situation like this.' He noted that many in the area are irate over the lack of power. In a related incident, while work was being done to address the tree stump, a tractor-loader-backhoe (TLB) attempting to make a U-turn, driving over an island on De Wet Street, and colliding with a motor vehicle coming down the street. Two individuals in the vehicle sustained injuries, but refused medical attention at the scene. Officials from the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), City Parks, SCP Security, and City Power were present to manage the situation. Johannesburg Water repairs Bosbok Road water pipe leak
Finally, the Johannesburg Water (JW) contractor has attended to the troubling pipe on Bosbok Road in Randpark Ridge. This follows a pipe burst running unchecked and pouring out water for 21 days. Read more: Unfinished pipe burst repairs continue to leak The pipe was located under the road but was exposed after the road was flooded early in the year, during heavy rains. It was left exposed, making it easy for it to be damaged, this resulted in the pipe suffering multiple bursts, leaving nearby residents with days of no water. On August 1, JW began the work of replacing the ageing 150mm asbestos, cement pipe with a more durable 200mm steel pipe. Ward 134 councillor Devon Steenkamp said that while this marks welcome progress, he remains concerned that if Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) does not carry out regular storm water maintenance, especially before and during the rainy season, 'the force of water runoff could, once again, threaten the stability of this infrastructure, despite the improved materials used. Additionally, debris and broken pipe fragments have been left behind at the site. I will be engaging JW to ensure that proper cleanup is completed.' He added that this remains a textbook example of poor planning and delayed response, and he will continue holding the city accountable to prevent a repeat of this costly failure. Cold snap and clouds: Cape Town braces for chilly, windy weekend
The approaching cold front will bring increased cloud cover and stronger winds to coastal areas. Cape Town residents can expect a weekend of cold, clear skies followed by windy and cloudy conditions as a cold front begins to push into the Western Cape on Sunday. According to the South African Weather Service (Saws) forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela, the province is in for a partly cloudy and cold Friday, followed by a fine and cold Saturday, but will remain partly cloudy along the south coast. But the calm conditions won't last. 'On Sunday, a cold front approaches the Western Cape from the west, resulting in cloudy, cold and windy conditions along the coastal areas of the province,' Thobela told The Citizen. Clear skies for most of Saturday Saturday will start cold, with morning temperatures dipping to 8°C before rising to a crisp 19°C by the afternoon. Clear skies will dominate throughout the day, with no rainfall expected. Winds will be light and southeasterly, averaging around 9 km/h. Humidity will ease from 80% in the early hours to a dry 40% by 2pm, offering ideal conditions for outdoor activities—although residents should bundle up in the morning and evening, with temperatures expected to drop back to 13°C by 8pm. Despite the changing conditions, no rainfall is forecast, and skies will remain mostly clear until late evening, when they turn partly cloudy.
