This is officially America's best city for nightlife right now

Time Out24-07-2025
A good night out means different things to different people. Maybe it's sweating it out on a dancefloor until dawn. Maybe it's catching up over a glass of wine, immersing yourself in rare grooves at a listening bar or even wiling away the hours at a sober club. Whatever your style, America's nightlife scene has it all, but one city stands out above the rest.
According to Time Out, Las Vegas has been crowned not only the best nightlife city in the U.S., but the world's best nightlife city for 2025. The city scored an impressive 88-percent approval rating from a survey of locals and won praise from Time Out's expert panel. Sin City still brings the classic casino vibes and and mega-clubs with confetti drops, but the city's after-dark scene has evolved.
These days, the real magic often happens off the Strip. Vegas's Arts District is home to cocktail lounges like Stray Pirate, Doberman and Nocturno, where bartenders craft creative drinks with wild infusions. Locals love the city's speakeasies, too: There's one hidden behind a barbershop, another behind a bookshelf at a Malaysian eatery and another called The Lock, which you literally crawl into through a safe door. Add tiki bars, live music joints and art-filled night markets, and it's easy to see why most locals call their nightlife 'exciting.'
While Vegas is the only U.S. city to be named among the world's best, America's top nightlife cities are far from tame. At number two, Chicago keeps the party going with its mix of gritty dive bars, rooftop lounges, legendary house music clubs and late-night blues joints. Coming in third is New Orleans, where the soundtrack never stops. Frenchmen Street overflows with brass bands, funk collectives and soul singers playing to crowds that spill onto the sidewalk. The Quarter still has its rowdy energy, but locals swear by the smaller spots—dark, intimate bars where the cocktails are strong and the vibe is easygoing. Miami and New York, nightlife juggernauts, round out the top five.
Whether it's a huge rave or a quiet whisky at an underground lounge, nightlife in the U.S. has never looked more diverse—or more fun. And right now, Vegas is leading the charge.

Capture Bangkok - A celebration of the city we love

The doors to The Corner House are officially open, and our Capture Bangkok exhibition is finally here for all to see, on display until August 20. This journey began back in January, when Bangkok was named the second-best city in the world in a Time Out global survey. That immense sense of pride and optimism sparked an idea: to celebrate our city in the most authentic way we knew how – through a street photography exhibition that could capture its true, unfiltered soul. Within weeks, we had assembled 10 of the city's top street photographers and invited them to simply… capture Bangkok. We followed them with our own camera crew through bustling markets, abandoned buildings, and even a snake farm, learning their unique philosophies and techniques. Inspired by their work, we then invited you, our readers, to pick up a camera. The response was incredible, with thousands of photo submissions of such high quality that we felt duty-bound to create a special category for 10 runner-ups alongside our grand prize winner. If you missed our live charity auction during last night's launch in support of the Issarachon Foundation, don't worry – here's your second chance to own a piece from this remarkable collection while contributing to a truly meaningful cause. Our online auction will take place from August 14-18 exclusively on our Time Out Bangkok Facebook page. This project has been a true labour of love, and I'd like to thank the entire Time Out team for working tirelessly to make it happen. It truly wouldn't have been possible without our generous sponsors: Canon, Coca-Cola and LG. The result is a stunning collection of images that form a collective portrait of our home, a city of endless stories and boundless creativity. We hope you enjoy this celebration of the city we all love. Thank you.

This groovy underground Sydney bar just made it onto a world's best list

Here at Time Out, we're in the business of recommendations – specifically, ones that get you off the couch, outta your house and experiencing the best of the city. We recommend everything from the best hikes to the best affordable eats – and, of course, the best bars in the city for when you're feeling thirsty. Now, Time Out has just dropped its 2025 round-up of the best bars in the world – curated by Time Out's international network of parched writers and editors – and one Sydney bar made the cut. That calls for a celebration. Pleasure Club – a purple-hued, disco ball-lit basement bar where hedonism is not only welcome but encouraged – landed in 16th place on the world's best bars list. Having opened in 2024, this late-night live-music bar was the first Newtown venue to be granted a 4am licence in more than 100 years – so if you wanna party late into the night, you can do that here. The drinks are excellent and tinged with nostalgia, there's free live entertainment on every night of the week, and if you come at pleasure hour (5-7pm), you can score $12 Martinis and $2 oysters. In fact, we love Pleasure Club so much it won Time Out Sydney's Bar of the Year Award 2025. Head down and see why it lives up to the name. Elsewhere on the list, you'll find everything from a classy little wine place in Madrid to a speakeasy in Manila, a sultry cocktail joint in Edinburgh and a no-fuss institution in London. And our good friends in Melbourne did well too, with sexy cocktail bar Apollo Inn landing in 11th place. Check out Time Out's guide to the world's best bars here. After a watering hole that's a bit more casual? See our list of the best pubs in Sydney, here.
