India cannot afford to be divided over languages, says VP Dhankhar
India, an aspirational nation in the world, cannot afford to be divided on the issue of languages, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said on Tuesday and appealed to to the people to consider the future well-being of the country and "get over this storm." Also, he made a strong pitch for implementing the National Education Policy 2020 in letter and spirit, as it was a "game changer" in the education sector that could spur further development of the country.
Speaking at the Pondicherry University here, Dhankhar who is the chancellor of the varsity, without naming anyone, lamented that there was opposition to languages. "India is the most aspirational nation in the world as a result of phenomenal development in the last decade," the Vice President said and asked "how can we be divided on languages?" No country in the world was so rich as India when it came to languages. Sanskrit has global importance and this language along with Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Marathi, Pali, Prakrit, Bengali and Assamees were 11 classical languages.
"In Parliament the discourse is allowed by the members in 22 languages. Our languages indicate inclusivity. Sanatan teaches to be in togetherness for the same sublime purpose," Dhankhar added. He appealed to everyone to "soul search, be reflective and rise to the occasion and marvel at our great accomplishments." Further, he said: "Look at our destination, take into account the future and let us get over the storm." On the NEP, the Vice President urged the states that have not implemented it to enforce the policy as it was a national education policy, which was a "game changer." "I appeal to the states which have not adopted and those which are implementing to realise what is given in the policy. Let our boys and girls be fully aware of the benefit of the policy through workshops," he said.
The NEP was the best policy in the world as it allowed the students to fully exploit their talent and potential, besides offering opportunity to pursue multiple courses and optimal utilisation of time.
He pointed that the political leadership should bear in mind that there was no room for confrontation and that disruption and disturbance were not the mechanism which the framers of the Constitution taught us.

Murugan conference will be apolitical,says BJP state president
Chennai: BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran on Tuesday said that the party was not trying to gain political mileage from the Murugan conference being organized in Madurai. "The conference organized by Hindu Munnani will be apolitical," Nainar told reporters at the BJP headquarters in Chennai. "This is not a political meeting. As DMK thinks, there will no politics spoken in the conference. This is a conference of devotees of Lord Murugan. So cutting across political lines, anyone can participate in the conference," he said. Nainar said Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath is likely to participate in the conference. He said a special train has been arranged from Chennai to Madurai on June 21 for devotees to attend the conference and the same train will return from Madurai on June 22 evening and will reach Chennai on June 23. Meanwhile, the Madurai bench of the Madras high court has rejected the plea of a Hindu Munnani functionary seeking to allow officials to issue e-passes via online mode for the participants of the conference.

He was referring to the Keeladi report submitted by archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna, which was yet to be published by the Union govt. "Despite hurdles faced by the Tamil community for several thousands of years, we have progressed to prove its ancientness through scientific evidence. What needs to change is not the reports but the mindset of people who are not ready to accept them," he said in a social media post. DMK student wing secretary R Rajiv Gandhi told reporters in Madurai that the Union govt was deliberately delaying the publication of the Keeladi report. "The findings from Keeladi prove the existence of a literate, urban Tamil civilization over 2,500 years ago. But the Centre is afraid it will undermine their Indus-Saraswati narrative," he said asking the public to support DMK's protest. Meanwhile, Madurai MP Su Venkatesan accused the Union govt of targeting Amarnath, who led the early phases of the Keeladi excavations, for bringing out unknown facts about rich Tamil heritage. Venkatesan told reporters in Madurai that the transfer of Amarnath to the documentation wing in Noida was the latest in a series of actions aimed at suppressing the significance of Keeladi's findings. "In 2017, he was removed from excavation work and denied permission to write the report. Only after a legal battle was he allowed to submit his report. Two years after submission, the ASI has not released the report yet," he said. Venkatesan said the Centre is sending a message that any official who reveals 'uncomfortable' historical truths would be sidelined. "This is not just an administrative transfer. It is part of a pattern of intimidation," he said.

Stalin slams Centre on Keezhadi report delay
Chennai, June 17 (UNI) Slamming the BJP-led government for the delay in publishing the Keezhadi excavation report, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday said what was needed was correction of certain hearts, not the (Keezhadi) report. In a post on X appealing to the DMK cadres to take part in large numbers in tomorrow's protest to be organised by the Party's Student Wing at Veeraganur in Madurai against the Centre to condemn the delay, Mr Stalin said the agitation should reflect Tamil Nadu's sentiments and bring in a change of heart in the Union government. He said some hearts (Centre) was refusing to accept the report that established the antiquity of Tamils by validating it scientifically. 'How many, how many obstacles for the Tamil race? Yet, we are proving our antiquity through by overcoming all of them for thousands and thousands of years with the help of science." "Still, some minds refuse to accept is not the statements that need to be corrected ; it is some minds !", he wrote. "Tomorrow, in Madurai Veeraganur, we will gather in large numbers in the protest demonstration to be held by the DMK Student's Wing and express our feelings of Tamil Nadu to the Union Government ! Let's correct them !", Mr Stalin added. Amid the raging controversy following the Centre's refusal to accept the report and seeking to rewrite it and further validate it scientifically, the Union Culture Ministry has ordered transfer of senior archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna, who led the Keezhadi excacvations in Madurai district and prepared the report establishing the antiquity of Tamils, from Delhi to Greater Noida. Mr Amarnath, who had refused to rework the report as demanded by the ASI, was also removed from the post of Director (Antiquity), Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Members of the ruling DMK's allies including the CPI(M) and VCK strongly condemned the Centre's move and demanded its revocation. They also termed it as an vindictive act towards the Tamils. A couple of days back Mr Stalin had a dig at the Union government for seeking more details to further scientifically validate the Keezhadi excavations that have highlighted the antiquity of Tamils and charged the BJP-RSS with promoting the mythical Saraswati civilisation. Condemning the Centre for questioning the scientifically validated Keezhadi archaeological findings, Mr Stalin said even when confronted with carbon-dated artefacts and Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) reports from International Laboratories on the Keezhadi excavations, they continue to demand 'more proof.'
