Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid cuts to co-star for Madeleine McCann update
Good Morning Britain was hosted by Susanna Reid and Ed Balls on Tuesday's episode
Susanna Reid swiftly handed over to her colleague for a major development in the Madeleine McCann case on Tuesday's episode of Good Morning Britain.
The 54-year-old presenter passed the baton to Good Morning Britain's Chief Correspondent Richard Gaisford, who was live from Portugal with the latest developments.
Richard updated viewers that approximately 30 German police officers, including forensics experts, are set to start an intensive search in Portugal this morning.
They have identified an area between the hotel where the McCann family was staying and a property connected to a suspect in the case, Christian Brueckner.
At the beginning of Tuesday's show, Susanna moved quickly to connect with Richard who was onsite in Portugal to discuss the fresh updates.
Susanna asked Richard: "Richard, it's all about to begin again. Are the police acting on new information do you know?", reports Bristol Live.
Richard replied: "Well that's what we don't know, but as you've already reported Susanna they are here in force and ready to start what is an extensive search."
He continued: "I've just been speaking with the Portuguese police officers who are guarding this particular scene just outside. Telling me they're expecting this search to start here in the next hour or two.
"German police have applied for a European investigation order, they will arrive here at the scene with a judicial warrant. The land owner can do nothing about that but sit back and watch and see what develops.
"They are looking at land associated in some way with Christian Brueckner, who the German police believe is the prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
"He is currently in jail in Germany, that is in relation to the rape of an elderly woman in Praia da Luz. He was living in Praia da Luz or around Praia da Luz at the time that Madeleine disappeared 18 years ago.
"They will be looking at land close to the house, just a half a km or km outside Praia da Luz that he rented - other areas around the area too as well.
"Metropolitan police telling us they're not involved in this but they will give support if required. Remember, they have been here in large numbers searching over the last 18 years.
"Interestingly, Susanna and Ed, the MET has just been given another £100,000 by the government to continue the search for Madeleine McCann which is still very much in people's minds. We will see over the next few days what develops."

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info This is the heartbreaking final photo of Greg Monks before he mysteriously disappeared during a stag do in Portugal. Greg Monks, hailing from Cambuslang near Glasgow, vanished last Tuesday evening just hours after landing in the Algarve with his mates. The last known image of the 38-year-old depicts him grinning, clad in a dark Nike top and dark trousers. It's thought the picture was taken before Greg and his pals departed from the Novochoro Apartments hotel, heading towards pubs in Albufeira. Greg went missing the next day after telling friends he would head back to his hotel alone following several hours of drinking. READ MORE - Noel Edmonds in huge ITV comeback with help of Mr Blobby in major move READ MORE - Piers Morgan's wife has 'brutal one word dig' after Meghan Markle shares video He was last seen on CCTV in the residential area of Cerro de Aguia, roughly four miles away from the main pub area. His sudden disappearance triggered a major search, with both his parents and girlfriend flying out. Tragically, Portuguese police announced they found a body during the search for the 38 year old, reports the Mirror. Sources indicated that police suspect Greg got lost and tragically fell to his death while trying to find his way back to his hotel. Authorities are now investigating the circumstances leading up to his disappearance, including the routes he might have taken. The hill in the Cerro da Aguia area where police believe he was on the night he disappeared is about an hour away from where Greg parted ways with his friends, while his holiday flat was approximately 30 minutes away. Greg's body, having been left undiscovered for nearly a week, began decomposing due to the sweltering heat. A knowledgeable police insider previously conveyed: "There is nothing at this stage to indicate this man's death was linked in any way to a crime. But we need to wait for the autopsy results to conclude that is the case." The source elaborated: "Our belief is he lost all notion of where he was after drinking heavily and finding himself in an unfamiliar place, and that he jumped over a wall and fell to his death. The body was already in a state of decomposition when it was found." In the wake of the grim discovery, Greg's sister Jilian poured out her grief, heralding him as "an amazing boy". She spoke further: "Didn't think it would end like this. We are absolutely devastated. Greg was an amazing boy who everyone thought so highly of, Was friends with everyone and always made us laugh! We will miss him everyday." She continued in appreciation: "I just want to thank absolutely everyone for everything they done from sharing their posts to out looking, phoning everywhere to get CCTV. The support we have received from everyone has been out of this world. If love coulda saved you, you would live forever! Miss you forever brother."

Chilling images show where Brit holidaymaker's body found as cops in key appeal
Sniffer dogs were dispatched to search the steep hillside below luxury villas in Cerro da Aguia near the party resort of Albufeira after CCTV spotted Greg Monk jumping over a wall Eerie images have emerged of the neglected scrubland where Brit Greg Monk's body was found after he went missing from his friend's stag do in Portugal. Sniffer dogs were dispatched to search the steep hillside below luxury villas in Cerro da Aguia near the party resort of Albufeira after a homeowner responded to an appeal by police and Greg's family to search cameras for images of him. CCTV revealed the 38-year-old plant mechanic from Glasgow jump over a wall after a night out and helped police narrow down the search for him. Greg's sister had urged residents in the area to check home cameras and doorbell footage between 2am and 5am on Wednesday, May 28 after it emerged the last sighting of him had been in the hill area dotted with large villas. A Portuguese police source revealed the CCTV supplied by the local homeowner had proved vital in the case. The police insider said today: 'The GNR police force had requested help from the Polícia Judiciaria force which confirmed yesterday the missing man's body had been found. They then got given CCTV from one of the villas in the Cerro da Aguia areas which enabled them to trace him jumping over a wall of a neighbouring property. 'With that information the searches were immediately moved to the scrubland below the houses. Sniffer dogs that were being used by the GNR were brought in again. When the dogs were put to work in the area, around 11am, they went straight to a bush where the missing man's body was laying.' Another police insider added: 'The investigation into exactly how he died is ongoing. But all the evidence so far is pointing to the tourist losing all notion of where he was in a place he hadn't been to before, and under the effects of alcohol jumping over a first wall into a private property and then a second wall in the back garden not realising there was a steep drop the other side.' An post mortem exam today is expected to firm up the belief he died in a tragic accident after becoming disorientated as he tried to get back to his hotel after a heavy night of drinking with his holiday friends, just hours after arriving in Albufeira for a five-day stag do. Greg's girlfriend Nicole Kelso as well as the Scot's mum and dad travelled to Albufeira after he went missing. His sister Jillian, who fronted the appeals for information on his whereabouts before he was found dead, said yesterday his family were 'truly heartbroken.' She added: 'Everyone who knows Greg knows how much he will be missed and what an amazing guy he was.'

Madeleine McCann search development that police hope will solve 18-year mystery
A development in the search for Madeleine McCann has seen German police officers head to Portugal to scour buildings and land in a bid to bring an end to the 18-year hunt Madeleine McCann has been missing for 18 years and this week hopes have once again been raised of finally finding out what happened to the three year old. Madeleine vanished in 2007 while on holiday with her family in the resort of Praia da Luz in Portugal. Her parents Kate and Gerry McCann had gone out to dinner with friends a few hundred yards away, leaving her sleeping in a room at their accommodation with her toddler twin siblings. When they returned to the apartment, Madeleine was gone and for the past 18 years, Kate and Gerry have tirelessly campaigned to find their daughter, with the Metropolitan Police spending more than £13 million on the case in Operation Grange. In 2020, German prosecutors announced they had a prime suspect, Christian Brueckner, in Madeleine's case and authorities from the country later searched areas of Praia da Luz. Chillingly, former friend Helge Busching claimed Brueckner had told him in 2008 it was "strange Madeleine didn't scream" when she was taken. Brueckner has denied all involvement in the tot's disappearance. With the 2023 searches proving fruitless and Brueckner behind bars for raping an elderly woman in Praia da Luz in 2005, there has now been a new development which brings fresh hope. An investigating source explained to The Sun: "Following Brueckner's trial last year, someone contacted them with theories on where anyone who took Madeleine might've dumped her. "They told cops about trenches that were dug in Praia at the time Madeleine disappeared, and the house where Brueckner had lived on the edge of the village. "Of course, all of these places have been searched over and over again, but now they have a new weapon in their ground-scanning radar." Following the tip-off, German police have this week been seen using a JCB digger at a large derelict farmhouse where prime suspect Christian Brueckner used to live. They later turned their attention to a second abandoned farmhouse, with the major search said to be focusing on wells and water storage tanks. Under the terms of their warrant, investigators have until tomorrow to look through the areas and properties in southern Portugal they believe could be linked to Madeleine's disappearance. A spokeswoman for the official Find Madeleine Campaign said of the search: "Due to an active police investigation, Kate and Gerry are not doing interviews at this time." On the 18th anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance, Kate and Gerry McCann had said poignantly: "No matter how near or far she is, she continues to be right here with us, every day, but especially on her special day. We continue to 'celebrate' her as the very beautiful and unique person she is. We miss her."
