In a report dubbed 'Invitation is all you need' (Sound familiar?), their Google Calendar invite passed instructions to the AI bot that were triggered by asking for a summary. Google was informed of the vulnerabilities they found in February and said it has already introduced 'multiple fixes.' Google Loosens Play Store Grip in Europe

This article first appeared on GuruFocus. Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG) is loosening its grip on European app developers after regulators cracked down on its Play Store practices. Google said it's rolling out changes to its external offers program, giving developers more leeway to steer users toward their own platforms instead of being locked into Google's payment system. To qualify, developers still have to meet eligibility rules and sign up for the program. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 5 Warning Signs with NVDA. The shift comes after the European Commission ruled in March that Google was favoring its own services like Shopping, Hotels, and Flights in search results, while also blocking developers from directing customers elsewhere. Regulators accused the company of unfairly boosting its own ecosystem and overcharging rivals in the process. Google insists it's walking a fine line. Clare Kelly, senior competition counsel for Google in Europe, said the updates could carry risks for users, but stressed the company is trying to balance compliance with safety. Still, Brussels is watching closely, and Google's Play Store revenue model could look a lot different if these changes will want to see how the company adapts as EU oversight intensifies heading into 2025.

Lake Mariner Data Center plans to add more artificial intelligence servers

The Lake Mariner Data Center is going through another round of site expansion, this time to add another artificial intelligence data center building. Operator Terawulf is eying 30 acres directly south of four buildings housing the first phase of the AI data centers. The new addition, the fifth different site on the former coal-fired power plant, would add 120,000 square feet of space across two buildings. The buildings are described as a 700-foot by 240-foot structure housing the AI servers and a 600-foot by 120-foot dry cooler yard. The new servers will add 50 MW to the site's power load. Project documents submitted to the Somerset Planning Board state that while the electrical feed will come from existing transformers on the site, new transformers, electrical switchgear, an electrical bus duct, and power cable will be installed. Senior Construction Manager John Marabella said the only difference between the new data centers and the previous ones on the site is that the uninterruptible power supply system batteries used for electrical load stability will be inside the building. Whereas the batteries for the past phase are outside. 'We're looking to get this operational prior to the end of the year,' Marabella said. The cooling systems use fans, chilled water pumps, heat exchangers, and refrigerating gas, the same already being used in the other AI data centers. Marabella said this new expansion would also double the number of jobs at the site, with 32 people currently employed there. Of the 750 MW of power capacity Lake Mariner has at the site, through 90% hydropower from the New York Power Authority and NYSEG, it will have allocated 230 MW when the phase is complete. Town Supervisor Jeff Dewart said residents have raised concerns about fire and smoke from the batteries. Marabella said each battery is self-contained and shuts down if it reaches 480 degrees. A noise study submitted to the town by consulting company Acentech stated that sounds coming from Lake Mariner were below Somerset's 50 dB nighttime sound limit at nearby residences, with measurements taking place in July 2024. Noise concerns from residents have been a common complaint since Terawulf began gathering approvals in 2021. This past January, a 613-foot smokestack from the former coal-fired plant was demolished to make room for more data center buildings. The Niagara County Planning Board gave its support to the expansion plans at its monthly meeting on Monday. The Somerset Town Board had earlier this year approved two new local laws that would accommodate battery storage units at the Lake Mariner site, which Dewart said was to accommodate this. One was a zoning map amendment for the PUD, including battery energy storage systems as an allowed use and providing a process for obtaining a special use permit to operate a UPS system under certain conditions. The town board will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. today for a public hearing, with a vote on a proposed local law amending the PUD to allow the expansion set for Sept. 10. The Somerset planning board will have its own public hearing and vote approving a site plan and special use permit for the UPS system at its Sept. 4 meeting. Solve the daily Crossword
