Meet the 2025 Mr. and Ms. Basketball of Illinois: Warren sophomore Jaxson Davis and Young senior Destiny Jackson
Warren's Jaxson Davis and Young's Destiny Jackson are the 2025 Mr. and Ms. Basketball of Illinois winners, as voted by statewide coaches and media. And both made a little history in the process.
Davis, a 6-foot-1 guard, is the first sophomore winner in the 45 years of the Mr. Basketball award. And Jackson, a 5-6 senior guard, is the first Ms. Basketball from Young.
The prestigious awards given to the top players in the state are presented by the Chicago Tribune in conjunction with the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association. Mr. Basketball has been handed out since 1981 and Ms. Basketball since 1986.
Davis received 41 first-place votes and was named on 87 of 150 ballots, finishing with 315 points to easily outdistance another sophomore, Bolingbrook's Davion Thompson, who took second with 140 points. Docker Tedeschi, a Benton senior, was third.
The Ms. Basketball voting was much closer, with Jackson narrowly defeating Loyola senior Aubrey Galvan 230-219. Jackson received 28 first-place votes and was named on 68 of 129 ballots, while Galvan received 29 first-place votes but was named on five fewer ballots. Kenwood senior Ariella Henigan was third.
Players received five points for a first-place vote, three for second and one for third.
Davis averaged 19.5 points, 4 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 2.8 steals for Warren (27-11), the Class 4A state runner-up. He was the Gatorade Player of the Year for Illinois and a first-team IBCA All-State selection for the second consecutive year.
Jackson, an Illinois signee, led Young to a 25-9 record and a fourth straight city championship, averaging 21.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.8 steals for the 4A sectional finalist. Ranked the No. 1 player in the state by 247Sports, she was the Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year and first-team IBCA All-State for the third season in a row.
Davis and Jackson will be honored at an IBCA luncheon May 3 at Illinois State University in Normal.

Former Philadelphia Eagles teammates Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson will square off as opposing coaches in 2025 -- and they'll do so at the home they used to share. Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference rivals Norfolk State and Delaware State will meet on Thursday, Oct. 30, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Reggie Jackson joins as ‘deeply personal' partner for new NLBM hotel
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Hall of Fame outfielder Reggie Jackson, also known as 'Mr. October', has joined on as a founding legacy partner for the new Negro Leagues Baseball Museum Hotel, according to a release from Grayson Capital. The Marriott Tribute Portfolio hotel in Kansas City's 18th and Vine District will feature an upscale restaurant, rooftop bar, a cultural partnership platform and more as a 30,000 square foot expansion of the museum. It's all part of a new, cultural destination known as the Negro Leagues Baseball Musuem Campus. Frank White shares stadium discrepancy between county, KCMO and MO Jackson described the partnership as 'deeply personal' as the legendary ball player has personal connections to both KC and NLBM. 'Returning to Kansas City, where my MLB career began—and helping honor the Negro Leagues, where my father Martinez Jackson played for the Newark Eagles—is deeply personal,' said Jackson. 'This hotel will celebrate the greatness of those who came before me and inspire the generations to come.' Eagles to host game between Michael Vick's Norfolk State and DeSean Jackson's Delaware State
Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson are returning to the sidelines at Lincoln Financial Field. Delaware State announced Thursday that it was moving its game against Norfolk State to the home of the Philadelphia Eagles. Jackson is now the head coach at Delaware State and Vick is entering his first season as the head coach of Norfolk State. Advertisement The game was also moved from Saturday, Nov. 1 to Thursday, Oct. 30. Vick was hired as Norfolk State's head coach in December after the school fired coach Dawson Odums. Vick played high school football in Newport News, Virginia, before playing at Virginia Tech. Less than two weeks after Vick was hired at Norfolk State, the Hornets hired Jackson. Both players enter their jobs at the MEAC schools with little formal coaching experience in the collegiate ranks. Jackson was an assistant high school coach during the 2024 season as more and more HBCUs are turning to professional football players to lead their programs following the success of Colorado coach Deion Sanders at Jackson State. Vick played for the Eagles for five seasons from 2009 through 2013 after he missed the 2007 and 2008 seasons while spending nearly two years in prison following a guilty plea for his role in a dog fighting ring. Jackson was with the Eagles through Vick's entire time with the franchise as they both made the Pro Bowl following the 2010 season.
