Cruise passengers reveal the destinations they'd NEVER go to again

Daily Mail5 hours ago

Cruise holidays give tourists the chance to tick off several top destinations on one trip.
But unfortunately, not every port leaves passengers hungry for more.
Experienced cruisers have taken to Reddit to share their main cruise regrets – and for many people, it's a destination that didn't quite hit the mark.
So, where will these cruisers be leaving off their itinerary?
The largest island in French Polynesia, Tahiti, is often considered to be one of the world's most luxurious places to cruise.
But that's not the case for Reddit user 'Jammu2' who says: 'The actual island of Tahiti and the capital Papeete are pretty grim.'
And another person adds that they had to pay $30/£21.85 for a glass of beer in the luxury island location.
It's a Jamaican destination that 'VagabondCamp' won't be returning to. They say: 'Falmouth, Jamaica - small hole in the wall town - we left the port area and got screamed at, followed, blocked from walking etc.'
Cruiser 'mga1' agrees, adding: 'There isn't anything around. There isn't much to see/shop/eat in the area.'
For 'wanderingstorm', there are several destinations that have left them with no desire to return.
They say: 'I wasn't impressed with Western Caribbean, Cozumel, Roatan, Costa Maya etc. It was fine but nothing I had much desire to see again once the cruise was over.'
And 'GroundbreakingHeat38' slams Costa Maya, a cruise port in Mexico, as 'awful'. They claim: [It's] a big tourist trap type stop and you couldn't even go in the ocean, there was no beach.'
The Bahamas has also sadly left several cruise guests unimpressed with 'Express-Bee-6485' moaning that they 'should've stayed on [the] ship!'
'Elvisdog12' even describes Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas and a leading cruise destination, as 'straight up gross'.
Europe isn't spared on the thread with 'malbecois' claiming: 'I could do without stopping in Olympia on future cruises.'
They explain their dislike for the Greek destination by saying: 'It sounded interesting, but the Olympic site was a bit of a let-down compared to other historical ruins. And damn was it hot!'
And 'PMyra' had their cruise ruined by a terrible excursion to a 'factory' in Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic.
They claim the trip was 'nothing but sales pitches and forced shopping' adding that they now 'avoid' any factory excursions.
Meanwhile another cruise guest says they need a 'a vacation to recover after a Mediterranean cruise', explaining that 'there's a port every day and you're usually waking up at 6am to do whatever is planned'.
Cruise guests have also been warned that trips to a popular European destination are about to get a little pricier.
Norway has announced that local governments will be able to charge a three per cent levy on overnight stays and cruise ship visitors.
The tax is due to launch in the summer of 2026 and has been designed in response to overtourism in the Nordic country.

10 places you can book now with Tui's late deals - starting from just £200

Not much beats have a holiday to look forward to, but if you don't have one in the calendar just yet, you may be able to score a good deal by booking last minute. Usually you'll get the best savings if you book around five to six months in advance. However if you're feeling spontaneous, not fixed on a destination and can be flexible with dates, there are savings to be had. We've rounded up the best Tui last minute and late deals for you to explore, and they all jet off in the next few weeks. From three-night weekends away to seven nights of fun in the sun, there's something for everyone, whether you prefer all-inclusive, half board or self catering. With destinations like the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, Greece and Portugal, each holiday includes Tui flights and a range of hotels, from adults-only to family-friendly options. 1. Canary Islands You really are spoiled for choice when it comes to the best Canary Islands holidays, with each one offering something a bit different. With balmy temperatures even in the winter, it's no surprise that us Brits flock to the islands all year round. The only decision you have to make is which one of the eight islands to visit first. With prices starting at around £200 per person for four nights in Gran Canaria, you won't need to break the bank to soak up the sun and jet off for a long weekend. Or why not spend a little more to stay at a suite at HL Rio Playa Blanca. It may only be for three nights, but it's currently down from £965 per person to £298, saving more than £1,300 per couple, and it's all-inclusive. 2. Cape Verde The island of Cape Verde is a great choice for a last minute getaway, especially if you'd like to explore beyond your hotel or resort, with plenty of beautiful beaches, volcanic landscapes and a mixture of West African and Portuguese influences. You'll find deals from as little as £445 per person when booking last minute, with us spotting standout savings of £500 off at the Tui all-inclusive Platinum Melia Lana, as well as a massive £565 off the Hotel Morabeza. With 18 Tui holidays discounted at the time of writing, no matter which one you pick, expect an average daily high of around 27C throughout the month of July. 3. Greece One of our personal favourite summer holiday destinations, Greece and the surrounding Greek islands benefit from warm weather, crystal clear waters and so many incredible sights. Whether you plan to spend your time by the pool or want to take a step back in time by visiting its many archaeological ruins, you can certainly switch it up during your stay. You might even spot one of the Tui cruises on your wanders. Crete is a great destination for families for all ages and we've spotted a deal on the island for the Tui blue Elounda Breeze, with kids clubs and evening entertainment to keep everyone happy, down from £1,071 per person to £444. We have a feeling deals like this won't stick around for long, so check them out sooner rather than later to avoid missing out. There are also adult-only hotels if you'd prefer a quieter and more relaxed stay. 4. Spain From Mallorca and Menorca to Costa Brava and Ibiza, Spain remains a go-to destination for British holidaymakers, and for good reason. Check off historical landmarks, head to any one of country's stunning beaches and don't forget to indulge in some traditional tapas while you're there. Currently, one of the cheapest deals is three nights at the Globales Torrenova in Mallorca, with more than 60 per cent off. There are also big savings to be had at Tui magic life Cala Pada in Ibiza, which features an all-inclusive stay at a one bedroom apartment for £323 when booking last minute, compared to its usual price of £978. 5. Portugal Fancy sunning yourself in the Algarve or Madeira next month? Well, look no further. From more than 50 per cent off four nights – all-inclusive, we might add – at the Pestana Blue Alvor Beach hotel, to plenty of options at around £280 for three nights on a self catering basis, there are Portugal deals for every budget. You can choose to stay closer to city centres, if you like to pound the pavements and see the sights, or opt to be nearer to the beach to completely switch off for a few days. Both sound pretty dreamy to us. 6. Turkey If Turkey has been high on your travel wishlist, there are lots of savings to be had right now. Again, prices can vary depending on the number of nights and where you're flying from, but we were delighted to discover that most are all-inclusive, saving you from having to worry about where to head out to eat or grab drinks during your stay. Prices start at around £170 per person for three nights self catering in Marmaris or £278 for three nights all inclusive. Whether it's your first time or you've not visited in a while, we've also put together a Turkey travel guide to help you plan your visit. 7. Cyprus Whether you're after a laid back coastal getaway in Paphos or want to experience the history and culture of Limassol, Cyprus offers you the best of both worlds. There's lots of choice when it comes to your boarding options with Tui. From self catering all the way through to the most decadent of all-inclusives, expect beachfront hotels, with a few even having swim-up rooms, as well as temperatures of around 33C in July. We found quite a few Cyprus deals under the £400 mark, with many being better than half price if you book one of the Tui late deals. 8. Florida If you've ever priced up a holiday to Florida, you'll know that the costs can quickly spiral out of control, which is why it could be worth checking for last minute deals to find some savings. Whether you're planning a big family holiday or you and your partner are some serious thrill-seekers, we've found a whole host of brilliant deals in Orlando. You'll pay as little as £715 per person – down from £1,679 – to stay on the bustling International Drive, with savings on villas, self-catering apartments, resorts and at Disney and Universal Studios. Some hotels even come with their very own water parks, perfect for cooling off from the Floridian heat and spending a day away from the parks. 9. Mexico From ancient ruins, to vibrant nightlife and gorgeous white sand beaches, you can cram a whole lot into a trip to Mexico. But if you're not sure where to stay, especially if this is your first visit, we've put together a helpful guide on the best Mexico holidays, with all our top tips. When we had a look at Tui's late deals, we saw seven-night holidays starting from £700, instead of upwards of £1,500. Or if you want to splurge on a special getaway, the adults only Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Maya by Karisma is better than half price at £1,060 per person. Quite a few of the hotels even have an additional £100 off when you log into your myTui account, taking the price down even further. 10. France The stunning French Riviera is a must for visiting in the summer. From strolling along the Promenade des Anglais to paying a visit to the Matisse Museum, which celebrates the life and work of French artist Henri Matisse, it's sure to be a laid-back kind of holiday. And you should be able to save around £30 per person on a three-night stay simply by booking it last minute with Tui.

Regional UK airport reveals major masterplan with new flights to US and Middle East… and millions more passengers

BRISTOL Airport has revealed it's masterplan to 2040, with dramatic passenger number increases and new destinations.. The airport's plans suggest that it aims to transform travel into and out of the region over the next five to 15 years. 5 Current proposals include serving more connections and destinations including new long-haul flights such as the east coast of America and the Middle East. In addition, the airport also wants to increase annual passenger numbers from 10million to 15million, by the late 2030s. If the plans go ahead, Bristol Airport will reduce the number of journeys taken to London airports from the south west and south Wales Currently, 10million passengers undertake journeys to London airports each year from these regions. Proposals also including rising the number of flights from 85,990 per year to 100,000. On a busy day in peak season, this would mean an additional 35 flights. Night restrictions are planned to be kept at the airport but the airport is also proposing to increase night flights by 1,000 flights a year. This would mean on average, four per night on a busy nigh in the peak season. In the shorter term - over the next five years - the airport's terminal buildings will be extended to include a larger immigration area for arriving flights, more space for baggage reclaim, more shops and a new lounge. The airport is also working to introduce an upgraded entrance with more car parking and a walkway so that passengers no longer have to get a bus out to planes. The new £7billion mega terminal opening at Changi Airport Over £60million will also be spent on improving bus and coach services in the region. There will also be a new drop-off and pick-up location, as well as e-charging points. Then - as part of the larger masterplan - by 2040, the airport plans to have new bus lanes, improved public transport links, highway improvements, a rapid EV charging hub, new buildings, over 8,000 more car parking spaces, additional hotel accommodation, an expanded car rental area and an extended runway. It is also even considering having a 'vertiport' for electric vertical, take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft services. The report states: "These zero-emissions aircraft are sometimes called 'flying taxis', and in future could play a role comparable to helicopters today. "While the technology is in the early stages of development, it is unlikely to be a major passenger service, but over time it could become viable to carry greater volumes of people between UK regions." 5 A planning application for the appropriate infrastructure for all of the plans, will be submitted later this year. There are currently 14 airlines operating from Bristol Airport to 115 destinations including Alicante, Majorca, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Tenerife and Barcelona. In 2024, Amsterdam was the most popular destination, followed by Alicante and Majorca. According to the report, the airport is primarily used for leisure (41.9 per cent), followed by visiting family and friends (26.9 per cent) and package holidays (15.9 per cent). Business customers make up the smallest portion of passengers using the airport (15.3 per cent). In total, the airport contributes around £2billion to the south west and South Wales regions each year. By 2040, the airport hopes to grow this to £3billion. And by 2050, the airport also hopes to become net-zero. Dave Lees, CEO of Bristol Airport, said: "We're continuing to see strong demand to travel to and from our region, with business travel surprisingly holding up since the pandemic and people wanting to connect with friends and family across Europe. 5 'More than 10 million people from our catchment continue to travel to fly from Heathrow and London airports every year. "We're confident we can capture a section of that demand and boost the economy of our region by providing direct connections to North America and the Middle East." Bristol Airport previously did fly to America via Continental Airlines - which is now defunct. There was a direct service between Bristol and Newark Liberty International Airport - which launched in 2005 and marked the airport's first ever non-stop transatlantic service from the southwest of England. The flights were popular with more than 400,000 passengers using the route. However, in 2010, the route was scrapped after the airline stopped operations at both airports. Bristol Airport does already serve the Middle East though, including destinations such as Turkey, Egypt and Cyprus. Another UK airport also has major plans for millions more passengers ahead of £1.1bn expansion – with new flights to Europe this year. Plus, London Heathrow has revealed plans to expand two of its terminals as part of multi-billion renovation.

The British seaside spots to avoid this summer break

Consumer champion Which? surveyed 3,872 members to compile a comprehensive rating of the best and worst coastal destinations in the UK. Bamburgh in Northumberland claimed the top spot for the fifth consecutive year, highly praised for its beach, scenery, and peacefulness. Other highly-rated seaside towns included Beer in Devon, Portmeirion in Wales, and Sidmouth in Devon, each noted for unique attractions and appeal. Bognor Regis was ranked towards the bottom of the table, criticised by reviewers as a 'run-down seaside town' with poor entertainment. Bangor in Gwynedd was also poorly rated due to social deprivation and lack of investment, while popular destinations like Brighton and Margate surprisingly failed to ignite enthusiasm.
