Dharwad's marathon runners to pay tribute to Fauja Singh today
Dharwad: Marathon runners, athletes, and sportsmen of Dharwad are all set to pay a rich tribute to Fauja Singh, a renowned British Indian marathon runner, by organising a memorial run at RNS Stadium here, on Sunday.
Fit Feet Dharwad, a forum of like-minded marathon runners, has taken the initiative to pay tribute to Fauja Singh in a memorable way. They aim to encourage today's generation to take part in marathons and participate in sports activities to lead a healthy life by drawing inspiration from the life story of Fauja Singh. He proved to the world that nothing is impossible by breaking several records in marathon runs, starting his career in marathons as an octogenarian.
Ashok Patil, founder-president of Fit Feet Dharwad, told TOI that Fauja Singh set a world record by starting his marathon career at the age of 89. "He won many national and international level marathon competitions and events. He beat several records and achieved feats that were not possible even for young people. He remained an inspiration for today's generation. Unfortunately, Fauja Singh, whom we fondly called Baba Fauja Singh, died in a road accident at the age of 114 a few days ago.

To recall his contributions to marathons and shed light on his achievements, which have been an inspiration for all of us, we are organising a Memory Run. This event will include 3-hour long marathons and 1-2 hour medium and short marathons at the stadium to pay our tribute to the great soul," he said.
"Athletes, people working in different fields, and schoolchildren are expected to participate in the event. Despite the rainy season and cold weather, many have already shown interest in taking part in this event.
After the events, we will have a function to discuss Fauja Singh's works," Patil added.
Fit Feet Dharwad has taken up this initiative to educate today's generation about the importance of marathons to keep oneself healthy and maintain good fitness, both physically and mentally. "We will also organise weekend runs every Sunday in Dharwad and Hubbali, and all participants will run for hours in KUD, Agricultural College, IIIT, and other places. Interested people are free to join us," Ashok Patil said.

'Absolute filth, embarrassing moment': Stuart Broad on Harry Brook's over where he bowled 37mph
England' Harry Brook was handed bowling duties in the final over by skipper Ben Stokes in the 4th Test (Photo by) Former England pacer Stuart Broad has taken a sharp dig at the home team's tactics on the final day of the fourth Test against India at Old Trafford, calling Harry Brook 's spell "embarrassing" and as tensions flared in the dying moments of the match. With the Test heading towards a draw and Indian batters Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar approaching centuries, England skipper Ben Stokes offered a handshake to mutually end the game. But Jadeja turned it down, preferring to let the Indian duo reach their personal milestones. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Frustrated by the decision, Stokes handed the ball to part-time bowler Harry Brook, who surprisingly switched from his usual medium pace to off-spin in an apparent move to fast-track the conclusion of the match. Stuart Broad, speaking on the "For The Love Of Cricket" podcast, didn't hold back. 'Harry Brook came on to bowl and he bowled absolute filth. He bowled off spin. It was a bit of an embarrassing moment,' Broad said, clearly unimpressed with the switch. "Right-arm medium pace and you come up and bowl off spin? I didn't know he bowled off spin," Broad added. 'He looked like a poor man's Dan Lawrence in his action. He was trying to get the game done if they (India batters) were trying to get their hundreds.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cargo Ship Meets Pirates - Watch What the Captain Does Next! Broad however, stated that if he were playing, he'd be looking to get the game done as soon as possible and take his boots off. However, the former pacer did agree that neither side was in the wrong - India wanting to bat longer or England wanting to wrap things up quickly. The incident has sparked debate among cricket pundits. While Dale Steyn defended England's move to save their bowlers for the Oval decider, Sunil Gavaskar slammed Stokes and praised India's batters for standing firm. Nasser Hussain also criticised the decision to use Brook, questioning the message it sent. Poll What do you think about Harry Brook's decision to bowl off-spin during the match? Embarrassing move Just wanted to get the game over with No opinion With the five-match series standing at 2-1 in England's favour, the final Test at The Oval will be decisive.
