Check out Ventura County's Memorial Day weekend events
Memorial Day, held annually on the last Monday in May, mourns and honors the deceased service men and women in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Ventura County will mark the federal holiday with events throughout the region.
But that's not all on deck for the weekend. A Bon Jovi tribute band, fine art, ship tours and more events will be available at local venues.
The 48th annual Art in the Park will be 10 a.m.-5 p.m. May 24 and 25 in Libbey Park in Ojai. The event will feature more than 70 fine artists showcasing their works. The park is at 210 S. Signal St.
"It's a good introduction to fine art for all ages," said Helen Solomon, event spokesperson.
Artists must send photos of their work to a jury committee to be selected to participate, Solomon said. More than 100 artists entered for the 2025 event, she said.
The art festival raises $20,000 to $25,000 annually for the Ojai Art Center, Solomon said. For more information, visit: ojaiartcenter.org/artinthepark.html.
In Simi Valley, the Happy Face Music Festival is scheduled for May 24 with five bands, food trucks and restaurant vendors at Rancho Susana Community Park, 5005 E. Los Angeles Ave.
"The name comes from the actual Happy Face Hill in Simi Valley," said Steve Hise, festival chair. Happy Face Hill is named after a large, grinning face on a hillside that can be seen from westbound Highway 118 near Kuehner Drive.
The festival, from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., features tribute bands and era-specific acts. VIP tickets are $135.23, general admission tickets are $28.52 and kids under age 12 are free.
The entertainment lineup includes Wanted, a Bon Jovi tribute band, and Boys of Summer, an Eagles tribute group. Fast Times, an '80s new wave and rock act, The Yacht Groove, which specializes in yacht rock hits, and the Ultimate Rock Band will also perform.
"This is not really a sit down type concert where you're sitting in seats," said Larry Borovay, president of the Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise.
Proceeds from the concert go to 10-15 different groups, including local charities and organizations like the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center and a police foundation, he said.
About 2,500 people are expected, Hise said. For more information, visit happyfacemusicfest.com.

Blake Lively Brings a Rainbow Twist to the Skirt Suit Trend
If there's two things Blake Lively loves, it's Chanel and a novelty bag. Sometimes it's a sheer and sweet white midi dress, a sherbet sequin gown, or that classic tweed skirt suit in a litany of colors and fluffs. Othertimes it's a pizza-shaped bag, a crystal peony ball clutch, or a bejewelled crossbody number from her beloved Judith Leiber. This time, Lively combines both in a sunshiney, summer in the city look. Photographed yesterday (June 10) on the streets of New York with a friend, the Another Simple Favor actor outfitted herself in an aforementioned staple, the Chanel tweed skirt suit. This time, Lively gave the set a bright and bold twist, opting for a fluffy rainbow jacket and skirt from Chanel's Cruise collection. The skirt suit has had somewhat of a Gen-Z re-evaluation, of recent—an officewear staple of the '80s revived by the likes of Lily-Rose Depp, in the ladylike fashions of Mikey Madison, with vintage numbers for Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner, and a padded shoulder Calvin Klein set offering for Daisy Edgar-Jones. Lively, a face of Chanel, has long had a penchant for the French house's tweedy co-ords, bringing her own personal touches to the C-suite silhouette. And as Lively likes to do in styling herself, for this look, she added a legion of eclectic accessories. She reached for a pale blue beaded Susan Alexandra bag adorned with 3D cherries, and added sparkly blue peeptoe heels, as well as two chunky charm necklaces and multiple gold hoop earrings. The Blake Lively self-styled wardrobe teems with color, texture, and unexpected accessories. Following the news that It Ends With Us actor and director Justin Baldoni's defamation case against her and her husband Ryan Reynolds was dismissed, Lively appeared at Chanel's Tribeca Festival Artists Dinner in good spirits and wearing a sweet crochet midi dress and pearly pumps, adding a bedazzling Chanel Scarab Minaudière from the house's Karl Lagerfeld-designed 2019 Métiers d'Art show in Egypt, and a more casual blue chore jacket draped over her shoulders. Now free of any press tour, Lively can enjoy some relaxed, summer in New York dressing—donning Chanel ambassador tweeds and picking up whatever novelty accessory that catches her eye next.

New UFC champion Kayla Harrison describes 'surreal' celebration with Trump outside Octagon
UFC star Kayla Harrison described the "surreal moment" she celebrated her UFC title win with President Donald Trump. "I've had the honor and privilege of representing our country on the biggest stage for the sport and… I've been to two Olympic Games. At my first Olympic Games, President Putin was in the audience during my finals. … But I've never had the honor or privilege of competing in front of the leader of my country, and that was a special thing," the newly crowned bantamweight champion told "Fox & Friends" co-host Lawrence Jones on Wednesday. "I'm very proud to be an American," she added. "And anytime you get an opportunity like that, you'd better make the most of it." Harrison defeated Julianna Peña on Saturday night at UFC 316 via submission to win the championship, leaving her mark on the sport and setting herself up for an epic fight against former champion Amanda Nunes. After her win, she stepped outside the octagon where President Trump, who was attending the matches that took place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, greeted her and the two embraced. She described her excitement at seeing Trump along with boxing legend Mike Tyson after the fight. "The President of the United States is giving me a kiss on my cheek, and I'm like, holy (cow)," she said. "And then Mike Tyson is right there! I'm like, am I in a movie right now? What is happening?" Harrison put her championship belt on Trump's shoulder as the crowd cheered. The UFC champ said she attributes her success to her faith in God, especially during the difficult process of cutting her weight to 135 pounds before fight night. Reflecting on her accomplishments in the sport, she emphasized how grateful she is to live in a country that gives her the chance to follow her dreams. "We are very blessed to be Americans and to live as free citizens in this great country. If I was born 90 miles south in Cuba and I did judo I would make $28 a week. So that puts it in perspective for me, and it keeps me humble and there really is no place like home."

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Trailer Rocks Taylor Swift Songs, Teases Belly's Wedding
The trailer for the third and final season of Prime Video's The Summer I Turned Pretty features two Taylor Swift songs and hints at Belly's (Lola Tung) wedding. The series originally premiered on June 17, 2022, with Season 2 debuting on July 14, 2023. Prime Video greenlit the third season in August 2023. In March 2025, Prime Video announced that the show would end with Season 3. The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 trailer is set to Taylor Swift's 'Daylight' and 'Red' and shows Belly walking down the aisle in what looks like a wedding gown. The third season begins toward the tail end of Belly's junior year of college, as she prepares for one more summer in Cousins Beach. The trailer gives snippets of Belly's journey this season while her voiceover reflects on how she experienced her first love with Christopher Briney's Conrad, and how she has now found the one, Gavin Casalegno's Jeremiah. Notably, Conrad and Jeremiah are brothers. The logline for The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 reads, 'It's the end of her junior year of college, and Belly's looking forward to another summer in Cousins with her soulmate, Jeremiah. Her future seems set, until some core-shaking events bring her first love Conrad back into her life. Now on the brink of adulthood, Belly finds herself at a crossroads and must decide which brother has her heart. Summer will never be the same…' The trailer depicts Belly and Jeremiah deciding to tie the wedding knots and facing pushback from their respective parents. Series creator Jenny Han based the show on her namesake novel trilogy. However, it's unclear whether the show will follow the ending of the books and who Belly will ultimately choose between Conrad and Jeremiah. The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, comprising 11 episodes, debuts on Prime Video on July 16, 2025.
