The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has released its 2024 Annual Report, highlighting a landmark year of economic resilience, financial innovation, and regulatory transformation.
The report outlines major achievements reinforcing the CBUAE's role in safeguarding financial stability, enhancing legislative frameworks, and driving national economic growth.
The UAE's real GDP grew by 3.9% in 2024, underpinned by strong performances in both oil and non-oil sectors. Looking ahead, the CBUAE projects a further acceleration to 4.7% in 2025. Non-oil foreign trade surged by 13.8%, surpassing AED2.8 trillion—boosted by key economic partnership agreements.
The banking sector reported robust growth, with total assets reaching AED4.56 trillion, placing the UAE at the forefront regionally. Capitalisation, liquidity, and profitability remained strong, reflecting a stable financial ecosystem. The insurance sector also saw total gross written premiums climb to AED64.8 billion.
Key initiatives in 2024 included strengthening stress tests, climate risk assessments, and capital buffers to bolster systemic resilience. The UAE's exit from the Financial Action Task Force's 'enhanced monitoring' list underscored its success in combatting financial crime.
The CBUAE launched several pioneering platforms, including the domestic card scheme 'Jaywan', the instant payment system 'Aani', and the world's first Open Finance regulation. It also advanced the "Sustainable Monetary Sukuk" programme and expanded Emiratisation efforts, with national employment in the sector growing by over 150%.
Crowning a transformative year, the CBUAE earned the Leading Federal Entity Award and propelled the UAE to third globally in Islamic finance rankings. Governor Khaled Mohamed Balama reaffirmed the Bank's commitment to innovation and sustainable development, emphasizing its role in shaping the UAE as a global financial hub.

These efforts are led by the Abu Dhabi Exports Office (ADEX), part of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), aimed at strengthening the global competitiveness of the UAE's industrial sector. By the end of 2024, ADFD's cumulative development financing reached Dhs216.5 billion, benefitting 107 countries across various continents. This total comprises Dhs 157 billion in concessional loans, Dhs 57.6 billion in government grants, and Dhs 1.9 billion in direct contributions. The financing supported strategic projects in critical sectors including renewable energy, infrastructure, such as housing, transportation, education, technology, and water security —helping to drive economic growth and improve quality of life in partner nations. ADFD remains committed to supporting the national economy and the long-term growth of Emirati companies, while enhancing their international reach. In this context, ADEX allocated Dhs 4 billion in financing by the end of 2024 to support UAE national exports, facilitating access to over 40 global markets. ADFD also prioritised the role of the UAE private sector, allocating Dhs 6 billion in financing, which benefitted 19 Emirati companies implementing strategic projects across 8 countries. From an investment perspective, the Fund saw robust growth, with total investments reaching Dhs 12.2 billion across 22 countries. ADFD currently invests in 17 companies across a range of sectors, helping to strengthen financial resources, stimulate key economic activities in partner countries, and create sustainable job opportunities for local communities. In a strategic reflection on the 2024 Annual Report, His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Presidential Court, and Chairman of ADFD's Board of Directors, said: 'Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan believed that the essence of civilized progress is measured by the value of the individual and their good deeds, whose impact lasts a lifetime. This philosophy formed the foundation upon which Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) was established in 1971, transforming it into a developmental institution that embodies the values of the UAE and a shining beacon spreading its sustainable impact around the world. President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, follows the same path, carrying forward a legacy of giving, and supporting the objectives of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, in a way that achieves global prosperity." The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has issued 7,000 silver commemorative coins to mark the Dubai Islamic Bank's (DIB) Golden Jubilee and to honour its achievements in the banking sector since its establishment in 1975. The issuance includes 2,000 coins of 50 grams and 5,000 coins of 20 grams. The obverse of the coin features the inscription "50 Years of Progress", the mnemonic descriptor of this occasion in Arabic and English, signifying the 1975- 2025 period, along with the name "Dubai Islamic Bank" in both languages. The reverse side displays the nominal value of "50 dirhams" in Arabic, encircled by the inscription "Central Bank of the UAE' in both Arabic and English. The issuance of the coin comes as part of DIB celebration of its anniversary and the launch of its journey full of growth, development, and achievements over fifty years, making it a prominent financial institution in the UAE that provides innovative banking services to individuals and companies, in line with the economic and developmental aspirations of the country. The commemorative coins will be formally handed over to DIB and will not be available for sale to public through CBUAE or DIB. Saif Humaid Aldhaheri, the CBUAE's Assistant Governor for Banking Operations and Support Services, said: 'The Central Bank issues these commemorative coins that embody DIB's fifty-year journey of contributions and successes and its effective role in supporting the national economy. This issuance reflects the central bank's support to document the prominent institutional achievements that are integral to the financial sector's history, and it highlights the continuous efforts to enhance trust and financial stability in the UAE.' Dr. Adnan Chilwan, Group Chief Executive Officer of DIB, said: 'We are deeply honoured by the Central Bank of the UAE's gesture in adopting the DIB initiative and issuing commemorative coins to mark our 50-year legacy.
