Seahawks' 3 largest 2025 cap hits: offense
The Seattle Seahawks are currently equipped with $31.2 million in cap space, according to Over The Cap. General manager John Schneider has built a well-balanced squad, with no player scheduled to carry a charge larger than $15 million in 2025. Having analyzed the financial situation, we've identified Seattle's three-largest scheduled cap charges on offense heading into the new season.
Noah Fant, TE
Veteran tight end Noah Fant is currently slated to carry the Seahawks' largest cap charge on offense at $13.4 million. The Seahawks have drafted tight ends in consecutive drafts in AJ Barner and Elijah Arroyo. Fant is entering a contract year and likely doesn't factor into the team's 2026 plans.
Sam Darnold, QB
The Seahawks signed new starting quarterback Sam Darnold to a three-year, $100.5 million contract in free agency. Darnold's cap number is a very manageable $13.4 million this season, though he's set to explode to $33.9 million in 2026 and $44.9 million in 2027. The upcoming campaign will be the lone one Seattle gets a huge discount on its QB's cap number.
Cooper Kupp, WR
Cooper Kupp joined the Seahawks via a three-year, $45 million deal following his release from the Los Angeles Rams. Kupp's cap number is just $9.3 million this season, scheduled to nearly double to $17.5 million in 2024. The Seahawks could release the aging wideout prior to the completion of his three-year agreement though.

Fans Upset After Mariners' Cal Raleigh Announcement on Sunday

Fans Upset After Mariners' Cal Raleigh Announcement on Sunday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Angels are looking for a sweep of the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. Taking the first two games of this three-game AL West matchup, Los Angeles is pursuing its second-straight series victory after taking two of three from the Boston Red Sox last week. Advertisement Both wins over Seattle this weekend have not come easy for LA. Securing a 5-4 victory on Friday, the Angels followed that with a narrow 8-6 win on Saturday. One of the biggest challenges LA has faced against Seattle has been containing switch-hitting catcher Cal Raleigh. The MLB's leader in home runs with 26, Raleigh left the yard twice on Saturday. The only American League hitter with definitively better numbers than Raleigh this season has been New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge. Entering Sunday, the Mariners' catcher owns a 1.035 OPS that ranks second in baseball. This production has carried Seattle's offense that ranks middle of the pack in most offensive metrics. But on Sunday, the Mariners will have to survive without Raleigh, as he is not in the lineup against LA. It is not uncommon for a starting catcher to sit the series finale, especially when the start time is earlier than normal. That said, Mariners fans were upset to see the team's best run producer on the bench. Advertisement "No Dumper? We will not be watching," said one. "Cal out lol .. only good player.. that's cool," one added. "Cal has a full day off. We probably aren't scoring," one predicted. "No Cal? No thanks," said another. "Cal not in the lineup we lose by 20," said another. "No Cal? Sweep incoming," one added. "We are the only team dumb enough to sit the league MVP," one wrote. George Kirby Reaches Milestone, Helps Seattle Mariners End Skid

George Kirby Reaches Milestone, Helps Seattle Mariners End Skid originally appeared on Athlon Sports. George Kirby needed to bring his "A" game for the Seattle Mariners on Sunday as he anchored a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. Kirby managed to record his 500th career strikeout in the contest, too. Advertisement This was just what the MLB doctor ordered for Seattle, a team that has been languishing over the past few weeks. The Mariners saw their lead in the American League West completely wiped out. Now, they are looking up from second place at the Houston Astros. The victory on Sunday ended Seattle's five-game losing streak, some good news that the team desperately needed. 'It's just a great sign as I'm progressing through the season,' Kirby said, according to 'We needed a big one today, and hopefully this sets the tone.' Shoulder injury kept George Kirby out of Mariners rotation Kirby missed the first eight weeks of the 2025 season, dealing with right shoulder inflammation. When he came back, Kirby was not pitching well at all. In his first three games, Kirby went 0-3 with an 8.56 ERA. Advertisement 'It's probably one of the most important starts we've had,' catcher Mitch Garver said after Sunday's win. 'We can pump him up as much as we need to, to tell him how good he is, but he also has to prove it to himself. We know who George is, and that's the guy he can be.' Garver filled in for Cal Raleigh, who has been mashing the ball all season long. Raleigh had a planned rest day, so he watched the action from the Mariners dugout. Kirby reached his 500th strikeout faster than all but two players in Mariners franchise history. Kirby did it in 527.2 innings, putting him behind only James Paxton (492.2) and Logan Gilbert (503.2). Seattle continues its road trip by opening up a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night. The Mariners look to carry momentum from Sunday's win into this tough matchup against a National League West team. Report: Bills had trade talks for recently released Packers' CB Jaire Alexander

Report: Bills had trade talks for recently released Packers' CB Jaire Alexander The Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers had trade talks this offseason regarding veteran cornerback Jaire Alexander, sources told Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz. The report from Schultz comes on the same day that the Packers released Alexander. The team had tried to come to terms with the star corner on a renegotiated contract but that ultimately fell through. Now, Green Bay will save over $17 million for 2024, according to Over the Cap, as they give themselves financial flexibility this year. For the Bills, it's not a shocker that they were involved in these talks. Before the draft, they had a huge need at cornerback, and general manager Brandon Beane is always one to check up on situations around the league. Since then, the Bills added CB Maxwell Hairston in the first round of the draft, and they also added CB Dorian Strong in the sixth round. And, in free agency, the team brought back old friends Tre'Davious White and Dane Jackson. While Christian Benford is a lock for CB1, and Hairston is projected to slide into the second starting corner spot, having good depth at corner is always a plus in the NFL. The Bills learned that lesson the hard way when they lost Benford for the crucial AFC championship game last year due to a concussion. The obvious factor in any trade talk is the financial implication, and that is likely why no team was successful in trading for Alexander this offseason. We're not sure if the Bills would entertain diving back into the Alexander sweepstakes, but if they did, it would take some serious financial gymnastics to work their way into position to pay him. While Alexander is one of the premiere talents at the CB position in the NFL, a slough of injuries have held him back and will make teams think twice before investing in the 28-year-old. He has missed ten or more games in three of the last four regular seasons. Last year, he missed the final eight games which included their loss in the wild card round. He has been a Pro Bowler the last two seasons that he's been healthy (2020, 2022).
