Longhorns duo Hill Jr., Lefau selected to Butkus Award watch list
For Hill, it is the second straight year he has been chosen for the preseason watch list. That comes as no surprise after the numbers that he put up last year. The Ryan High School product led the team in tackles with 103 and tackles for a loss with 16.5. He also finished third in sacks with eight. He was one of the best players at his position and in college football.
While the Kansas native continued to be a veteran anchor, he got some help from Lefau. The Laie, Hawaii native played in all 16 games last season, making 10 starts. He made the most of his opportunities with 63 tackles, which was the fifth most on the team. The talented linebacker also added two sacks and an interception to his resume.
With Hill and Lefau back in the mix, the Longhorns' defense is in good hands. They made life difficult for quarterbacks last year, which should continue. Although Hill and Lefau are focused on bringing a national title to Austin, they wouldn't mind adding more hardware to their trophy cases.
The Dick Butkus Award is given annually to the best linebacker in the nation. Since 2004, the only two Longhorns to take home the award were Derrick Johnson in 2004 and Sergio Kindle in 2009. Hill and Lefau are more than capable of ending that streak and now have added motivation.
On November 4, Hill and Lefau will find out if they are semifinalists before the finalists are revealed on November 25. The winner will then be announced by December 10, before being honored at a ceremony at the University of Illinois' Memorial Stadium in early 2026. Hill and Lefau are hoping their travel plans will include a trip to Memorial Stadium.

Longhorns women's basketball reveals 2025-26 conference schedule
With the women's college basketball season just a few months away, Longhorns fans can start marking their calendars. On Tuesday, Texas revealed its SEC slate for the 2025-2026 season. After falling just a few wins short of a national title last year, they have a few exciting matchups on the horizon. During the 2025-2026 campaign, Texas is set to welcome Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Texas A&M to the Moody Center. In conference play, they will go on the road to face Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, LSU, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt. The Longhorns' first conference home game will come on January 4th when they take on Ole Miss. Four days later, Auburn will make the trip to Forty Acres before Texas goes on the road to face LSU and South Carolina. The January slate also includes trips to Fayetteville on the 25th and Gainesville on the 29th. When the regular season comes to an end, Texas will shift its focus to the 2026 SEC Women's Basketball Tournament. It will be held at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina. The tournament, which will include all 16 games, is set to start on March 4 and end on March 8th. While the Longhorns will be looking to add another conference title to the rafters, they also have unfinished business. Last season, they made it to the Final Fur before their season came to an end. With a roster full of talent and retiring stars such as Madison Booker, they are poised to build on their success. In conference play, Texas will be able to show just how good they are. If they can mirror their success from the 2023-2024 campaign, the rest of the SEC could be in trouble. Actor Glen Powell surprises Texas Longhorns walk-on linebacker with scholarship
Actor Glen Powell hands out Longhorns scholarship to walk-on linebacker Hard work pays @marshlandwehr, you're now on scholarship! 🤘Special thanks to @glenpowell for the assist!#ChadPowers premieres Sept 30 only on Hulu It is always cool when a walk-on gets presented with a scholarship. It is great when the coach awards the scholarship at an all-team meeting. It is amazing when a famous actor and alum assists. That's what happened to Texas Linebacker Marshall Landwehr, as he got a full ride presented by Texas coach Steve Sarkisian and actor Glen Powell. After starting a team meeting, Sark told the team they had a video first. Glen Powell, famous for Top Gun: Maverick, Twisters and Hitman, popped up on the big screen. Powell has also been making Chad Powers, about a football imposter created by Arch Manning's uncle Eli. "What's up Longhorns? It's Glen Powell, fellow Texas alum. I have new found respect for what it takes to join a football team. It takes grit. It takes grind. And most importantly, it takes heart. Marshall, your hard work has not gone unnoticed. That's why Texas is giving you a scholarship." - Texas Ex Glen Powell After the message, the team absolutely erupted and mobbed Landwehr at his seat in the meeting room. Finally, the Highland Park native hugged his coach. "When we talk about everybody in this room has a role in the organization, this is the epitome of that dude. I couldn't be more fired up for you man. Congratulations!" -- Texas coach Steve Sarkisian Ironically, Landwehr and Michael Taaffe are the only players left on the roster from the 5-7 2021 Longhorns team. Both were walk-ons. Taaffe got his scholarship in 2022 just before the Alamo Bowl. Now Lendwehr joines him just in time for his senior year. Follow us on X/Twitter at @LonghornsWire.
